I'm just curious if this is a stupid idea. A while ago, a good friend of mine (brotherly like) wrote lyrics for me because he was bored. He titled the song "Moonsong for a Raven" basically because I love the stars and moons and my nickname is Raven. Now, recently, I asked him for permission (who am I to claim his lyrics mine or use for musical purposes without permission?) if I could add music to the lyrics he wrote. Now, I love the lyrics he wrote. They are well thought out and describe my likes real well. But what are lyrics wihtout music? I was thinking about either putting music to the lyrics with either my violin or my guitar. But really, is this stupid because I'm not extremely expericnec in guitar or violin? Or is it better to write music to the song with my flute that I'm quite experience in? Or is it all around a completely stupid idea out of my reach?
All opinions and thought are welcomed. I'm basically asking because I"m curious on what people think of the idea. :3
Edit 7/21/05: I found the lyrics!
If the moon played music, Slipknot would waft through my ears, The rich sounds of a double-bass kick, Sounding out for years
I would never have to leave the night, And daylight would be a sin, And I would always cheer the might, Of "Heretic Anthem" played again
And so the songs would play, In percussion back to back. And blessed would be the day, When the sky would fade to black
I would like opinions on which instrument to use! (Electric Guitar, Violin, Flute)

I think it's a great idea! whee I think you should compose the music with whichever instrument you'd like to the best. That way you'll enjoy it the most. 3nodding If you think that you'd be good enough to do it with flute, well, violin and flute are very similar in what they play (to a basic extent), so it'd cross over. And the guitar, well, if I can attempt composing for the guitar now and then, you certainly can! xd

And that's funny, xD.

Milady Raven xDDDD Nice. Strings are: E, B, G, D, A, E. xP What brand is it? I play on a suzuki. xD I knew that. ninja I haven't the foggiest idea. O.o It's a miniature version of a guitar (strad- something, the kind Eric Clapton plays on) because I got when I was seven or something. xd Not that it's too small now... I'm so short. xd

Maybe I'll somehow get a picture of it on the computer one day...once I figure out how the hell to work a camera. But I'm not short at all...only to people who are six foot though. *is about 5'10" or 5'9"*

...I always learned the strings the other way around, from lowest to highest, as E, A, D, G, B, E. 'Course I know about three chords, and a smattering of notes with no notion of how they fit together and no understanding of the guitar whatsoever.
Anyway, I do have to warn you that composing is hard. At least it is for me. I can come up with a melody alright, but then putting it down has always been a problem for me. Especially since then I want to add a bunch of different instruments and such... it's bad. rolleyes
Best of luck to you! And if you need staff paper, there's some at www.blanksheetmusic.net
(If the link's broken, look in the Linklist thread... it's there too)

'Course, I'm not an expert or anything but I"m sure nothing wrong with that. I've actually composed pieces of music for certain insturments for projects at school and found that If I'm dedicated, I do good. =) *squess* Thanks for the link! I was going to as for a link sooner or later!

Modesty isn't that good, you know. xP *my butt your modest* Omphf! I found the lyrics: If the moon played music, Slipknot would waft through my ears, The rich sounds of a double-bass kick, Sounding out for years I would never have to leave the night, And daylight would be a sin, And I would always cheer the might, Of "Heretic Anthem" played again And so the songs would play, In percussion back to back.
