CHAPTER 1
Recruited
It’s the year 2019, December 24th. Christmas is right around the corner; everyone has bought the new yet mysterious next gen systems. They bundled it so that the new handhelds were also with the new systems, and they worked together for many different things. Everyone was sleeping, except me and some of my online friends. We chatted about how this new system will work, and we couldn't wait to use them. Sure we were all in our 30's, but that doesn't mean we can't game anymore. I knew for a fact that my wife got me one, guess because I just know her too well.
After I passed out at my computer, I awoke to Christmas morning; my wife was already up making breakfast. I rushed up stairs and said, "Its Christmas morning!" my wife smiled and said, "let’s get all the gifts for the kids" I nodded and grabbed the presents and gave them to everyone, we began opening them and were amazed at what we each got... except me. I didn't see the box with Nintendo’s emblem on it anywhere, I was about to give up on Christmas when suddenly, "You missed one! It’s one for you too." My wife came down the stairs bearing what I knew was the gift I was looking for. I ripped it open and there it was, the new Nintendo DPD! I immediately got it set up, and was amazed; first I summoned up links master sword and then got Mario’s hammer, and even pit's bow! We were al enjoying it when, out of nowhere, a bunch of Sony emo fan boys came through the wall of our house, and attacked us! I knew what I had to do, "Get out quickly! I'll fight them off!" I summoned up Mario’s fire power and began pelting them, but they were using the shell spell and it did very little, they all threw fire ice and electric spells at me, I quickly got out links shield, but it still blew me back. They chased my family, and killed them; I was buried in rubble so I assume they thought me dead. My house was in ruin; all that was left was my computer and monitor. I quickly got to the N-cult, a guild on Gaia that has been around for 30 years. I made a topic called "Sony fan boys attacked me with magic!" I told the cult about what happened and they told me I wasn't the only one.
After a long time debating what we should do, someone suggested we use these new gaming devices to gather somewhere, and fight this new evil. We agreed to meet in Bend, Washington USA for those of us in America and the rest would meet at the other Nintendo buildings, and gather as many people as they can. Draken became the head of his division and we hadn't yet decided on a leader for Americas division, we all thought fish but weren't sure. He said we'd decide when we got to Washington and met at the Nintendo of Americas headquarters.
Chapter 2
The JournyThe international lines were down, so it was hard to stay in contact with the cult, and the constant dodging everyone I saw with a DPD wasn't fun either. I slowly learned how to do some of the harder things, such as the blink spell from FF1. I met a few along the way that weren't trying to kill everything, and we banded up and continued to our destinations, I kept in contact with the cult via the online function on the DPD, since wi-fi was everywhere, it wasn't hard to find an access point.
I hi-jacked a few abandon cars along the way to help get me through this venture, I tracked my culties progress and told them the things I discovered about the system to help them get through, though I was still trying to get samus's speed boost to work. After about a day of walking and hi-jacking random cars, I finally got there.
I approached the station, it was still standing so I assumed they defended it well, as I approached I was netted I thought it might have been an enemy ambush, but to my knowledge they were some of the culties, already here. We greeted each other and they got me out of the net, and we headed into the Nintendo building, it was better than I could ever of hoped for. Once inside we noticed that most of the NOA staff was gone, we asked the few remaining and they told us they went to Japan to win the main front. "We have stayed behind to aid in the training of the "new recruits" and make sure they can better understand what is happening." I asked them if they knew what was happening over there right now, "Well, transmission to and from Japan is being jammed mainly so Sony can't get its message out to the owners of the Sony DPD. but other international lines to each headquarters are still working." he showed me a few maps and I told him, "I have a few others showing up in Canada and possibly Europe, they are going to the headquarters there." the staff had a grim look on each face, " those building didn't hold out, all the staff are dead."
Chapter 3
The Word
This news shocked the whole group, many of us wondered if we could get into contact with our other friends. Someone finally said, "Why don't we send a message that will loop until someone gets it?" and another said, "Yeah like instructions? That way we can get a link with the others!" the staff said, "Communications may still be possible but in our current state we may need an hour to get a solid connection, which place should we contact first?" Our group huddled and I told the group, "I know a lot of people heading to the Canadian division, and if we can get a solid line with a nearby place, we'll hold a much better fight." The group agreed and we told the staff. "Ok then I’ll get that started while we teach you some tricks to using the DPD.
We headed down to the NOA game testing area, the place was huge! I couldn't have seen anything closer to heaven, all of gaming future, past, and present all in one room. We headed down to a large chamber that was heavily fortified, mainly armor reinforcement to prevent the building from getting destroyed by the DPD. There was also a medical wing; I hoped I’d never have to go in there for anything. "This is the official testing range of the DPD anything we could possibly do with the DPD could never break these walls, however, that was just staff use of the product." The staff member turned to us, "My name is Alan, and I will hone your DPD skills" Then it hit me, "Your thee Alan!? From the Nintendo power magazine!?" he laughed and replied, "Yes I am, I thought I'd be forgotten by now, I guess we have some hardcore fans indeed. Say, what’s your name?" I paused for a moment, I wasn't sure if I should use my Gaian name or my real name. "Rod, Rod Henry is my name." he said, "Well Rod; can I use you for a second?" I agreed and got up o the stage with him. "Now I’m sure most of you have used some of the powers in the books right? Well most of those will be useless. I' going to tell you how to expand your powers through a simple machinery glitch, all you have to do is open the casing and move this wire to this connection point and you've just increased the potential power output of the DPD." Everyone did this and each DPD whirred to life when they reconnected the wires, and a new military protocol scrolled across the small view screen. "Alright now everyone this is what I want you to do-" A light flashed on revealing a huge wooden target, "I want you to focus on using Mario’s fireball on that wooden enemy, first focus it in your hand, and then throw it like a rock." Everyone summoned up a small fireball and charged it then at the same time we drew back our arms..."Fire!" and everyone then threw with all their might a fireball at the target. It burned to almost nothing.
Chapter 4
Training Day
Everyone gazed in awe, how such a small group of us could do that much damage. Alan continued, "What you just did was only an eighth of the DPD's capability. There are four levels of power, what you used is a common power, there are also lesser, and awesome powers." A large display turned on, "These different levels of power can achieve many great feats, take for example this." Alan pulls out his own DPD and activated a power, it was unlike anything we could think of doing, and he summoned the four sword, and became four alans. Everyone fell silent, no one knew what to think, do, or say, we could only wait for Alan to speak again. "These higher powers cannot be used by just anyone, it requires some training and better understanding, this is an awesome power, it's only been achieved by me and Reggie." He chuckled, "Yes he is that bad." the room began to fill with laughter and then fell silent as Alan spoke again, "even though only two of our staff could do this, we think all of you are also capable, we are safe here so we will have plenty of time to train you all that we know about the DPD." Alan paused and desummoned the four sword and his copies vanished.
Lights flickered on in surrounding rooms, and more staff were in each room. "In each of those rooms are people who have studied the DPD's limits and capabilities, they will instruct you in your combat groups and fill you in on the world’s situation." Everyone was then divided into groups and sent to one of the rooms, I was sent with a group of people I felt I should know, and then I saw one person and I knew immediately who it was, even though it had been over 10 years. I lost sight of him but I knew he was in our group, that’s all that mattered. I knew the rest would be the rest of my friends.
Chapter 5
Back to School...
We sat in some chairs and our Squad Instructor stood in front of everyone. "Welcome to Nintendo of America, I will be the one to teach you the hidden uses of our latest system." He paused for a moment, "No doubt all of you have your reasons for coming here instead of staying home, I have a feeling it has to do with some sort of loss because of Sony fans blowing everything up. Not to worry I'm going to teach you how to combat these people and win." A schematic of what looks like a DPD is projected on the blank wall, "This is Sony's DPD, it was never intended to be like yours are now but, like always Sony decided to sell another version that’s much more "Effective" than the first one." the picture highlighted a certain area, "this is the system interface, if it hard enough it will disable it and render it useless until it can be repaired, if you ever can, I’d suggest hitting this." it zoomed to other parts and he explained them, it started to get boring, I looked to my left and saw what I thought might be the person I thought was from the cult, but I couldn't be sure he was too far down.
After all the explanation, we were moved to another large room, where we plugged our DPD's into a computer and thought of all the powers we would like to learn how to use a list was compiled and it would then ask if this was correct. everyone was certain what those was what they'd use, once all the people finished the instructor gathered us each into groups of four and put us in smaller rooms with a grid pattern on the walls and floors. "Now we are going to simulate an environment where you will be able to use your powers, based on what you all picked depends on the environment, you will have some enemies you may encounter along the way in these places. The goal is to make it to a portal that will basically be the door you came in. good luck." as the holo deck machine was warming up I got the names of my team mates, and asked if they were on Gaia. They said yeah, the names they had were Seaphron, melikefood, and Hero Maul. I told them mine and I said, "guess the cult will fight together like I wrote in my story about 13 years ago." the environment was made, and I couldn't believe it, we somehow got put in this twisted version of the sky temple from the legend of Zelda twilight princess. I yelled out "I HATE THIS PLACE!" the deck operators voice filled the room, "sorry but it’s what came up you'll have to work your way through it and try to win I guess." I sighed, "Oh well, at least I selected the dual claw shot as one of my common powers." I summoned them immediately, "Don't worry about the puzzles I know how to do all of them, I'll get the gate that leads to the boss open and meet you guys back here, but I think for some of the parts I'll need someone with me." I knew as soon as I get to the last part I’d have to fight two large creatures to get the big key. My friends agreed to rock paper scissors, after about 6 rounds maul won. "Alright then lets go, "Maul followed me as we jumped a pit to get to the door to the first part of the puzzle. We climbed the tower in the small area and went inside it; we were then faced with the two large creatures. "Maul, now is when you get to do your part." He pulled out the biggerons sword, "I got this." One of the beasts spotted us and charged, I jumped out of the way and Maul rolled to the side and sliced away at the creature’s backside. The next creature began to charge maul and he jumped straight up causing a collision, the first beast vanished and maul killed the second one, it to vanished. The wind was strong from the fans but I found the switch and grabbed it. Once the fans stopped I dropped and grabbed the big key, it truly was big, and it was almost the size of my arm! But I sheathed it on my back under my shirt, "Okay maul now we go down this hole, and I finish this task." I went down first and maul landed next to me, I told him the now he has to jump down to meet the others he was sort of nervous, "Hey you guys down there, Mauls going to join you be sure to catch him!" they yelled back up "Ok ready!" I told maul to jump but he refused, I acted surprised and went, "HOLY CRAP GANONDORF!" he looked and I pushed him down to Seaphron and Miles, they caught him. As I lowered myself down with the claw shot I heard, "NOT COOL! Why couldn't you let me borrow that?" I yelled back down "Because I need it to open the path way ahead." After I got low enough I could see the switch, I grabbed onto it and the fan began moving. Once I dropped down I said, "This is it! Now we go one to face, the dragon!" I asked the Deck Op to modify parts of the level so the whole group could cross. He gave us a bridge and some ladders to get us up. Once we reached the plateau we began looking for the dragon, and then miles yelled "Here he comes!" Some one else yelled, "Draw your weapons!" I decided it was time to get ready for a lesser power, my Z-Saber. "This battle shall be EPIC!"
Chapter 6
The Gangs All Here
The dragon landed on the edge of the cliff and roared furiously, he drew in breath and exhaled a most ominous flame. I got out of there almost immediately, so did the others, I charged in and yelled, "We need to get this armor off him and expose his weak point!" I jumped on its back and began tearing away with my Z-Saber; the armor came off fairly easily. The dragon flailed about trying to get me off him while Seaphron jumped up and began to drop real fast, and then I heard, "Falcon Kick!" I jumped off after slashing at the dragon’s wings so he couldn't fly very well. Seaphrons devastating kick landed with such great force I slipped off the edge of the cliff, I panicked at first but I pulled out my claw shot and grappled the dragon’s tail. I hung there on its tail for a bit till it flung me back up while Miles and Seaph were pounding on it, Maul jumped in the fray too he had managed to get on its head to keep the dragons mouth shut. When I got back up they had all the armor off the dragon, "Hit it in the crystal on its back! That is his weak point!" I cast haste on myself and soon the others, now we could move fast enough to dodge his swings and kill it. I ran in z-saber drawn and jumped over one claw strike and his other would have landed but Seapron had hit it with his Z-Saber, we both charged in and began pounding away. We got in a few hits but he swept us off with his tail, good thing Maul and Miles were heading in, Miles copied my Z-saber ability and maul went in with his Biggeron's Sword. They landed enough hits that the dragon had fallen. They jumped off and the dragon jumped into the air, he flew about dazed, dying. I could remember the victory fanfare played at the end of each boss in Zelda. I played it through my head as the dragon screeched before he exploded like all enemies do in Hyrule. We cheered and yelled all matter of things; we slew an almost real dragon!
The holo deck soon fell silent as the world around us vanished and we were once again standing in a white box. the ground shook violently as an explosion was heard and felt throught the underground lab, the deck officer spoke, "Lets go we don't have time to dawdle, we are under attack again, this time in much greater numbers, good job though." we exited and the taught us the next step, focusing our mental energy on the tool we need to make it real I tried the claw shot first, it came fairly quickly, then I tried fox's blaster, also quick. Then I decided to try the Z-saber and buster, they both took a bit of time but I could manage to summon them. Seaph, Maul and Miles didn't have any problem either. "Good" the deck officer said, "Now we need your squad to go up and defend the building, I don't know if Alan and Reggie can hold much longer." WE got in the elevator with the second group to go up, "Well" I said "At least we won't end up on the front lines." we all kind of laughed but we got silent when the elevator was just about to the surface. "30 seconds to arrival" I looked at my friends, "Well, let’s get more aquatinted at some of the other powers we chose, so we know who can do what." We each looked at each others list and then I said, "Well if Miles is our healer I guess we should make sure he’s ok frequently... well that might get annoying, so Maul will keep with you and I’ll partner up with Seaphron, that way if our group ever gets split up, we know who to look for." We all nodded in agreement, we looked towards the door when the elevator stopped, the doors quickly opened up and we ran out to see the great battle being waged in the parking lot. Our group kept together and I got all my friends Hasted so we could fight better. "Ok remember no matter what happens, don't let anyone die. Disable or destroy any enemies DPD so they can't use it anymore, I’d rather not see half of America’s population die from this." We all got our weapons ready, I pulled out a bob-omb and Maul yelled, "What are you planning to do with that?!?!" I smirked, "Scare the living s**t out of everyone." I waited until the fuse was almost down in the bomb and I threw it high into the air it exploded with great force, and knocked a lot of people down. That when I yelled, "Attack!" and little did I know, where making an order, even so insignificant, would make me and my friends lives, change forever.
Chapter 7
Champaign and a Campaign
We were swift and charged the enemy with great speed, of course because I hasted my team. Seaphron and I both had Z-sabers out and locked blade with our attackers, man had Cloud’s sword, others had other weapons of all kinds. The battle was growing more and more gruesome, our team tried to not kill anyone but the battle was becoming far to hectic to think straight, me and Seaphers just hacked away, while Maul and Miles helped out behind us. We had disabled about 50 people by now, and probably severely injured 60 others; the battle never seemed to end. When we actually started to fall back, Reggie came out and used his awesome power; it was so glorious that I wish I had thought of it. A bright light flashed as his summoned item dropped to him, though it was hard to see I could tell that it was in fact, a star. He glowed with great intensity and he charged through the mob, hit everyone as hard as he could either knocking them unconscious or tossing them a great distance. The whole enemy army freaked out and begun to retreat, that’s when I pulled out my Z-buster and blasted everyone running from us.
The first Campaign was a success! We shouted once more for our first real victory, “Nintendo is victorious!” our small army went back in the building to treat the injured and rest ourselves, me and my team however, went out to find a nice bottle of Champaign to celebrate. “Dudes, we kick a**!” said Maul as he took a big chug, “We had to of taken out at least 100 total” I looked over and said, “that’d be a good assumption seeings how large an area we had cleared out” we sat and drank for awhile then headed back to the HQ, I didn’t know if others were listening, but word from the east coast says that one more Nintendo fan has been burning a path towards the west. I told the rest of the group and said, “Do you think it could be Fish?” Seaphron looked down and said, “I don’t know, but I’d like to think so.” I began to think, he did start in Illinois so there’s a good chance… but how did he figure out the secret to unlocking the power of his DPD? I didn’t think too much, I only thought, that we should try to meet up with this mysterious person.
After we got rested up, I asked the group if they wanted to go on a bit of a quest, once they were all listening I explained, “The mysterious person that is burning across the nation towards us is with Nintendo, we aren’t sure if it’s Fish but one thing is for sure, he can’t go the whole way himself.” I paused for a brief moment then continued, “I propose that we try to meet up with him, since our DPD’s can locate others of the Nintendo brand, we should be able to find him, and based on his path being as straight as it is, and time it took him to get where he is, we should be able to meet up with him in Kansas in roughly a week.” The group looked at me, and though for a moment, then Maul said, “And what if we don’t find him? Or what if we do and he wants nothing to do with us?” I simply replied, “I have a feeling once this person knows our names, he’ll gladly team up with us.” Seaphron then got up and said, “Then lets go while it’s still early, we need to go as far as we can then find place to rest before dark.” The whole group got up, and we went to go to the car that I brought in, but it was totaled from the battle. “Oh well, I guess we start out walking till we find a new car. Eh heh heh heh…” the group groaned and we pressed on towards Kansas.
Chapter 8
Random Encounters
We started from Washington and passed through part of Oregon, we managed to hi-jack an old farm truck that still had some potatoes in it. We got half way through Idaho by about day two; along the way we saw something was amiss, four people were destroying a town for seemingly no reason. I was driving so I stopped the car, I got out and told the two in the back, “We’ve got some people to save, follow me.” I hasted the group as we approached the four possible enemies. We saw them using various powers to destroy just about everything. I turned to Seaphron and said, “Reason with them, if that fails, I’ll start plan B.” I used my Hide ability, turning me completely invisible. As Seaphron approached, the four turned to face what they thought was only three. Seaphron spoke first, “What’s going on here? Why are you destroying this town?” they looked at each other and laughed and the one that appeared to be the leader looked at Seaphron and said, “What’s going on here is us having fun, and we are destroying this town because we can, and there is nothing they, or you, can do about it.” He began to raise his hand to attack only to hear me say, “DUCK FOR PLAN B!!!” once my group got down and away, I dropped the Bob-omb at the feet of these four people and ran as fast as I could. I got twenty feet away before it detonated, with such a force it sent me another five feet. I looked behind me only to see the other four scattered, barely moving. One of them managed to stand up, I couldn’t believe it! Who could stand up after getting hit by a Bob-omb? I was about to find out, my friends got up as our foe healed his friends, and they got up. Our haste’s were wearing off; we needed to get ready for a challenging fight. Seaphron summoned his Mega Buster, Maul pulled out his Biggeron’s Sword, and I tried to get up, but I could hardly move, that is until Miles finished healing me with Cure. Once I finally got to my feet, one of the thugs was rushing me holding some kind of weapon. I still couldn’t quite move, I thought I’d be taking a hit, but Miles used his earth wall ability, and the guy ran right into it. Finally I could move again, I summoned Fox’s Blaster and rolled to the side and began shooting at them. Once I got over to Seaphron we began blasting away, I wasn’t sure where seaphron was aiming, but I was trying to hit the DPDs on them, to see just how macho they are without them.
Maul was hacking away at the guy that tried to hit me with his sword, while Seaphron and I tried to take out his support. The battle was starting to take too long, one of us would eventually start tiring and go into mental shock, and we had to do something to decide this battle. Just then Maul nodded at Seaphron, they must have a plan because I wasn’t paying attention. They rushed to one of the leaders friends and the both yelled, “FALCON…” and maul yelled, “PUNCH!” At the same time Seaphron yelled, “KICK!” both attack collided on the same person, the kick struck the DPD and shattered it, flinging it a good thirty or forty feet, and it exploded. I was almost caught off guard while watching this, but I ducked to dodge a blow from the guy and started putting blaster fire into the DPD. It shut down and he couldn’t use it any longer, so I gave him a nice kick and sent him to the ground. Two left, this wasn’t going to be easy though, I had to refrain from using my lesser powers, and I hadn’t kept track of how many I used. I told everyone else too, “If you lost count on your lesser powers, don’t use them.” Then Maul turned to me, “Dude the computer in this thing will tell you that it’s dangerous to exceed the limit when you are, we don’t have to keep count!” I looked at my DPD and saw the readings felt stupid… I mean, I usually either know everything or nothing, guess this time it’s nothing. I summoned up the z-saber and thought out loud, “I wonder if I can get both the z-saber out and z-buster?” I tried and the buster seemed to not want out, but I managed to hold it in existence, now I was practically Zero, just without the armor. I rushed the leader, he was holding some sort of glowing weapon himself, I took a closer look then realized as he yelled, “LION HEART!” I knew I was in deep s**t now; it was Squall’s strongest attack! He was about to take roughly ten to fifteen strikes at me, all doing massive damage. However, I knew that if I lived, even if I didn’t, this would put him into a mental shock that he won’t wake up from. He charged in, I put up my Z-saber to try and block most of the attacks, it was such a brutal attack that he managed to damage the Z-buster! He was about to make the final strike, as far as I can remember it was nearly at the speed of light, I also knew it was horizontal, so I got my Z-saber vertical to try and reduce his momentum. He struck… we both fell to the ground, I landed face first while managed to stay standing, but not for long. He began to foam and do all sorts of crazy s**t, before he finally hit the ground and stopped moving. His friend was already long gone, Miles came over to me, and began using cure all he could. Seaphron went to check the other guy’s life signs, “He is dead.” I spoke and said, “I figured he was, that attack is one of the greatest in all of Final Fantasy VIII, the only thing I didn’t see coming, was me keeping all my limbs.” We got back to the truck, I was still in no condition to drive, so reluctantly, I said, “Let Maul drive, just don’t let him go over forty.” I laughed as he said, “Why not?! I’m a good driver!” Seaphron laughed and said, “yeah but you like to hit the speed bumps real hard, we got Xilo in the back, he’ll fly out and use his Claw Shot to grab your head to get back in.” I laughed again, “That’s not a bad idea.” Once we got back onto the free way, we continued to head to Kansas. But something was happening to my DPD, I wasn’t sure what yet, until a mini head projected from my DPD, it was… REGGIE!
Chapter 9
Mission from Reggie
Reggie began to speak, "we have finally developed a plan to stop Sony's army, and it involves the expedition your on right now." I politely told Reggie to hold on while I got maul to stop the truck. we got out and listened to what Reggie had to say, "The person your going after is a great asset to nintendo, and all he's doing now is burning through any sony army people. but if he would agree to help us here at the main headquarters to destroy the main building all of you will be heros." Seaphron spoke,
"what if he refuses? do we just leave him be or force him?"
"No that won't be neseccary, eventually he'll have the whole country cleaned out, but you must try to atleast convince him not to kill anyone."
Xilo agreed, "We'll try Reggie, i'm sure he'll agree if he's the person we think he is."
"Good luck."
the mini Reggie head dissapeared and we got back on the road to look for this powerful ally. we had just reached the Colorado border...or was it Wyoming? I didn't know, but it had been 5 days with all our other stops we had to make. and we were only one state away from our objective, he was in oklahoma heading north to kansas. "I'm feeling better now, let me drive." I jumped out of the back of the truck and me and Seaphron switched places. we were almost to kansas when something up ahead struck fear into every part of my mind. it was a fortress, not just any fortress, the final fortress in final fantasy VIII. "Dear god... I can't believe they could build such a thing!" Seaphron looked over the hood of the truck, "What you talkin abou- NO WAY!" I stopped the truck and got out, this thing was amazing yet ominous at the same time. I immediatly called nintendo headquarters, "Come in, any one, I must speak to reggie it's important!" I managed to get ahold of the call director.
"What is the nature of your problem?"
"A big fortress full of sony people that reggie might like to know about. I'll send an image."
I hooked my camera phone up to my DPD and sent a picture of the fortress to them.
"One moment please."
it wasn't five seconds before reggie came on the line.
"Where is this?"
"It's near the border of kansas and wyoming... or colorado, i'm not sure"
"we'll send reinforcements, judging by its flight path it will go over you current position, we want you to divert from you old objective and help us stop this thing from reaching us."
"Alright, afterwards you want us to continue our old objective?"
"Yes, and maybe if you lucky, he might see the castle and join you, he's in Kansas right now."
"ok we'll keep a lookout for him. OH can you send us some supplies as well... we had been living off the potatos we found in the truck and we're all out now."
"Right then, Reggie out."
the line clicked and we heared a massive ship looming overhead, we looked around but the sky was cloudy and hard to see through. then finally it came into view.
"OH MY GOD! THEY BUILT THE GREAT FOX!"
the ship was the most massive thing that remained a beutiful thing, it was heading ove us and just os it passed over, it began dropping many things down to us.
