I went to a camp last weekend with my Japanese teacher and a few students.
It was the best time ever.
We were divided into groups based on our skill, and we were represented by colors.
I was in Kiiro!
We had language classes, our class did the theme of "visitation".
Then we also had chosen 2 culture classes to take.
I had chosen cooking and kendo.
Cooking was fantastic, we made sushi! 2 kinds: normal and the one I think that is known as California Sushi.
During Kendo, this kendo group came and taught us the basics! "MEN!"
Also, when we went to the cafeteria, we'd get a card with a number and we sat at the table with that number. That way we met people and also on the back there was a kanji, at the end of lunch they'd call out a kanji and the person of whom they call, get's a prize.
Also during lunch we count the number of bankai I think it was. You get one everytime you speak English, if you get one you have apologize infront of everyone and the second time you have a conference, the third time you're out!
We had cabins like usual, so we brought sleeping bags like normal. On the doors we had a store name, our room was named CDya (CD shop).
The food was good, we had curry for dinner, eggs for breakfast and yakisoba for lunch. (Rice with every meal)
There were also performances, like a Taiko performance with a group from Seattle. It was SPECTACULAR!
And we also had an evening activity to choose from, which was: origami, video, a dance and the desert. Me and my friend choose the desert and we ended up making dango, I think it was...it's like a shizkabob, I hated the topping on it though.
We got out early so we checked out the dance they learned, it was awesome to watch. The next day they performed it in front of everyone but me and my friend accidently got into the crowd and we had to improvise but I ended up catching on fast, the song was Soran Bushi. Now I'm actually trying to learn it and I can't get it out of my head.
During the language class, we learned about wrapping gifts with cloth, coming from America to a host family and much more. They also gave out red tickets to anyone who did really well and at the end they gave out prizes, I didn't end up getting any tickets, so I didn't win a prize..
At night, me and my cabin spoke English anyways since they wouldn't have known, next door spoke English too, I think all of them did at night. We ended up staying up talking about random stuff.
The next day we had an Undookai Tournament between each color group. There was a 3-legged race, spoon race and a powdered sugar race. After that we didn't finish because of flooding, so we had to get home a little early.
I had the best time ever at the camp and I wish I never left. D;

I've never done that, but I've been on homestays.

We learned Soran Bushi for one of the homestay trips. It was about two years ago . . . it was really hard because the video was in Japanese and we couldn't understand enough yet, and my teacher didn't translate. Then we found out we'd learned it backwards, and had to reverse everything. I love that dance, though. (I've forgotten most of it by now. . . sad )

I didn't know the Soran Bushi when I was accidently stuck in the crowd of people performing. I had to follow their moves.
But I learned it the other day on my own.

It was in the Seattle, WA area.
In this place just northwest of Seattle called Carnation.

We're actually from Olympia, WA. The farthest school that went.

I envy you, I wish I could have gone, or I could just get immersion by going to Japan, but that would not be as easy.
