One of our biggest problems are of course 'jeedai wannabees.'
The second biggest problem is illiteracy. Behind that is ignorance.
But ignorance of what?
The galaxy. Jedi skills. How to make a lightsaber. How to pilot a TIE Int. How to NOT get pwned. Podracing. Sabaac. Various Correllian liqours. Etc.
The guild needs a list of threads, or an entire forum dedicated SOLELY to the various conceptions within the Star Wars universe. Threads are needed explaining the histories of the Jedi, Sith, all of the major conflicts, Force Powers, Military Ranks, etc.
We need topics dedicated to vehicles, ships, melee weapons, blasters, lightsaber variants, techniques, planets, governments, and food.
In other words, the guild needs to pool everything it know, and create an encyclopedia. Will it be hard? Hell yes. But do we need it? Of course.
Often times, the root of an RP problem is either said RPer's inability to perform to standards, or their lack of knowledge. Kids love X-Wings, but folks, they were only the best ships available for about twenty years, between 2 BBY and 18 ABY (ABY being After the Battle of Yavin, and BBY being Before the Battle of Yavin.)
My suggestion is a forum, massive of course, with classified threads dedicated to storing the information basic needed for roleplays, or even just reference.
My inspiration: ---
Works pretty good, and you can always go back to it.
Here's my plan:
- Raise the money and create a sub-forum - Create rules based around limiting and gaining permission to post - Post all entires in a pre-meditated upon format - Have all entries be edited by a mod when needed for clarification or updation
I can see where we'd need about ten or twelve threads right off the bat. My favorites are:
- Lightsaber Forms - Lightsaber Construction Variations - Starfighters and their Relative Era - Starships and their Relative Era - Jedi History - Sith History - Republic History - Sith Empire History - Galactic Empire/Imperial Remnant History - Rebellion/New Republic/GA History - Military Rank and Command - Common Indigneous Races - Types of Blaster weaponry - Melee Weapons - Explosives - Food and Drink - Other Poloitical Organizations - Major Political and Military Conflicts
We keep creating new threads, at mod discression, for whatever we feel needs added. Anmy changes can be made by a mod or the thread creator.
And then, for any fan-made creations we think ingenious, and worth using in multiple RPs, or just to use as a reference, we create a thread soley dedicated to them.
Thoughts?

sounds good, but time consuming...would it not make sense to just make a sticky linking to a specific online encyclopedia already existing? or would you want to have our encyclopedia include things that happened in the gap between vong invasion and 'now' as well as things specific to the main RP?

Of course we'd have a link to Wookieepedia, but not everything can be found there, plus it takes a lot of researching on one's own.
The trhead creators on the other hand do that for us. I'm thinking they do something similar to this:
(Thread Title) ~~ Approved by: Insert Mod Name Here
Written: Insert Date Here
Source: Insert Link Here
(Entry)
(Subsequent Posts on Said Entry)
Yes, you can still post, and for some of us who know where to look and how, this is almost irrelevant. of course, our knowledge is also practically second to none in Gaia, except for maybe Cale Darksun. However, for noobs, and new guildies, this should be a very helpful guide.
And if time and work is an issue, then I volunteer to write up all of the stuff I've already suggested, and offer that as a prize to my Master, Lord Sephiroth. *Bows*

Sounds like a great idea, I'd volunteer to write articles. Just one correction on the first post: BBY stands for Before the Battle of Yavin. ABY is After the Battle of Yavin, the Battle of Yavin being the destruction of the first Death Star.

Sounds like a really good idea, but of course, it would take forever. I would definitely be willing to help, though

Of course it would take forever. One never stops learning.
Consider it an ongoing project.

I'd help, I've been parousing Wookieepedia since joining up here. Haven't done any reading beyond the film, but I'm pretty well versed in those.

I think I can assuringly claim that I'm a self-proclaimed master in GCW-era Force-users.
I'm also well versed in covert ops, space combat strategy, and I've done much research about the Sith Empire, and the various methods to prolong death and/or ressurect oneself.

Okay, I've read alot of the New Republic books, and about half the New Jedi Order series, as well as having collected alot of the WotC RPG books, so anything pertaining primarily to those eras I can help with...

Anyone heavy on the KOTOR-era? I'm only versed in the Sith Empire:
- Darths Revan and Malak - Darths Ulic Kel-Droma and Exar Kun - Darths Marka Ragnos and Naga Sadow - Darths Ludo Kreesh and Freedon Nadd - Sith Lightsabers and Techniques - Sith Artifacts - Sith Territory - The Star Forge - Darth Bane (Some)
As for the era's Jedi and other groups, I need more material

I have some material that covers that era, and I'm huge[/] on the games, so I could cover some of it.

Im highly verse or about as versed as material allows on Darth's specifically Bane. (He's my favorite) if i may i would like to do this section or at least help. Ive always perfered and enjoyed learning on the old stuff anyway, the roots are always more intresting. I would hope they create books similiar to that of Path of Destruction, on some of the other Sith, that book was very well written, and a highly welcomed change to the normal multi main character stories.

Where would we start? All the way from the beginning? Damn, it'll probably take us a year or two to complete it, but hey, I'm down. I could take care of the history of the first Jedi and Sith up to probably the first and second schism..., or even up to the Great Hyperspace War....

We would most likely start with the most important stuff that would directly affect the Rp, like weapons and such, History can wait as it is not a relevant for literacy, but would still need to be done.

As for that, the question at hand would be what would be applicable. I mean, let's face it: alot of the gear from the movies and books would be obsolete even 100 years after the end of the NJO era, and I don't know much of anything beyond that particular era (can't even think of the name of the era after, though I know it has one). The question I have is how would we generate the data on equipment here?
