The main gates to the city are flanked on both sides by dual-leveled guard towers set into the walls surrounding the metropolis. The first levels are dedicated to weapons and armor storage; the second floors house the barracks, where the city gaurdsmen live. The Eastern tower has an addition where the guardsmen's horses are stabled, as well as a private yard for training; the Western tower also has an addition, a considerably smaller one, where the Captain of the guard has her personal quarters alongside the prisoners cells. These consist of a small office with a desk and a rigid-backed chair; the tiny bedroom attatched holds a rickety washstand with a cracked mirror and an uncomfortable cot. All those who would sign up as recruits for the guard known as Falloner's Falcons must come here to apply.

Ancar. The fabled White City, jewel in the Island's crown, yada yada... Clavian chuckled softly to himself as he approached the main gates. One watchful eye followed the movements of the guardsmen on the terraces of the mighty walls in front of him; the other, the left, was half concealed in shadow by the hood of his cloak, pulled forward and down to cut against the sun's bright glare reflecting from the walls.

The rumbling of the cart stopped, and his driver, who had been kind enough to offer a poor man by the roadside passage to the city, turned to face Clavian.
"This is us, mate; I go round the other way from here."

Clavian nodded and, after hoisting his bag and staff, jumped lightly from the rickety cart to the road below before turning to thank his somewhat surprised driver, who hadn't expected someone so old-looking to be so spry.

As the cart trundled merrily away, Clavian smirked up at the city in front, then, adjusting the set of his cloak, ambled forward into the city, the end of his staff clicking against the cobbles.

Aria Skysong

"Oi! Watch out!"
"Hey!"
"Ouch!"
"Mind jer elbows!"

This and similar cries issued from the crowd moving through the city gates as someone jostled their way through it, apparantly using whatever means at their disposal to get free. From the sounds of things, the person seemed under the impression that if strangers got an elbow jabbed in his face, or his foot stepped on, he ought to have moved out of their way quicker. A break in the sea of bodies produced a cloaked female of small stature, not the hulking bully the citizens cries might have implied.

Aria pushed clear of the masses, breathing hard as though she'd run a mile. Goddess help her, she hated people. Irritating bastards, all of them. Pointedly ignoring the complaints and glares directed towards her personage, she moved further into the open, her green eyes sweeping the scene as though searching for something. Beneath the hood, her lips moved in a string of muttered curses, a mix of gutter-elven and foul-common that would have embarrassed a sailor into blushing.

Turning to her left, her eyes settled on a man jumping out of a cart that had obviously just come up the main road. Reasoning that if her missing companion had headed that way, there was no way this guy could have missed seeing him, Aria trotted over to where the man stood gawking at the city like he'd never seen one before.

"You there! Fellow with the staff!"

She came to a halt beside him, adjusting the long-bow slung over her shoulder so that it stopped slipping down.

"Have you seen a really big scary green guy?"

Looking as though that was a perfectly normal inquiry to make of a complete stranger, the woman lifted her hand over her head and stood on her tip toes, stretching as tall as she could.

"He's 'bout this tall, orange hair, lots of scars and weaponry? Come to think of it, he might have been eating someone; he likes to do that sometimes...so, have you seen him?"

Retracting to her original size, she gnawed her lower lip as though distressed while she continued to look around, waiting for the man to provide her with an answer.

Clavian cast a glance around, looking for whoever had shouted; it was plain to see he was the only one in the vicinity carrying a staff, so the call was almost certainly directed at him.
The young female approaching him had a determined look about her, and no sooner had she stopped in front of him than she blurted out what Clavian considered one of the stranger questions he'd been asked.
Curiostity got the better of him though.

"Now why would a small thing like you be looking for a monster like that, in a place like this?" he asked, his one visible eyebrow rising, before setting off slowly towards the main square, the girl following at his side.

Azaroth slowly walked to the gates.. god how he wished he had more supplies so he could keep wandering and didnt have to stop here in this god-forsaken town

Crowds of people shuffled through the gates, and Azaroth was merely one of many. The guards paid him little mind, simply looked him over as he passed. They seemed much more engrossed in their own talk. Passers-by caught snipets of the gossip, talk of an attack in the town square. Perhaps it was only gossip, but the men-at-arms seemed to be readying themselves for battle, and they were moving out in the direction of the City Square...

Azaroth hearing snippets of this "battle" talk doesn't care so he heads towards a shop near the town square for supplies so he can get the hell out of Dodge unfortunately he doesn't realize he is headed for trouble anyway

A figure walked toward the gate. He looked toward the walls,"So this is the city of Aleron."He had both scimitars at his side, the blades had demonic wing crossguards with black blades. He slowly came under the gate and stopped there to observe the guards and the people passing by.

The Guards noted the approaching figure, eyed his weapons, then waved him through. Aleron ran on the principle of trust until proven guilty. People moved through the city constantly, unhampered, yet the crime rate was surprisingly low. Perhaps the "honors system" worked after all.

Kromm
A cold and angry grin came across Kromm's face. He turned to look at the soldiers at the Parapets. "I dare you to try." Yelled Kromm to the soldiers. Then from deep in the forest a small number of wood elves appeared from the woods. In their hands bows and on their backs long ropes and little barrels tied to their shoulders.

((Moving to the front gate area now))

One guard shook his head. By the emblem on his cloak, he was the officer among the guardsmen. The guards did not lower their weapons, nor did the gates open. The officer gripped his sword hilt and gestured at the elves.

"What business have you here that you bring armed men to Ancar's gates? Even the King's goodwill will only stretch so far, elf. Do you seek to cause war between yourselves and the King?"

He sounded neither angry nor amused, only put the questions to Kromm to answer as he would.

"We wish no harm amost the people of this city or come armed to harmed only to protect ourselves from the beasts and rogues and highwaymen in the woods. We only wish passage to this city for sell of our goods and then leaving with enough money to fund a war." Said Kromm only loud enough for the soldiers to hear a whisper.

Xandra jerked at NightDancer's reigns as she heard voices in the direction of the direction of her escape route. She cursed under her breath and edged her horse forwards, seeing the mercinare who had started the mess she'd just gotten out of. She took a moment to curse him, the boy, his master, and the mage who was supposed to defeat her captor. Then, she looked around the corner, trying to find a way to get out of this cursed city.

The officer raised an eyebrow, calling back with a curiosity-laden tone.

"You wish us to knowingly aid in funding a war? I fear the King will want to hear this for himself before he agrees to do trade."

The officer shook his head and motioned strangely with one hand; as one, the soldiers all lowered their weapons.

"I will take you to the palace for an audience with the King if you agree to leave your warriors here until they are granted entry by his Majesty. Under our laws, you have safe passage there and back out of the city, so you needn't think we'll arrest you."
