It was a lovely day. Blue sky, a light spring breeze, lush green grass and even berry bushes scattered about for easy snacking access. Really, all things considered this was a great spot!

Now, if only he could figure out where he was!

Shaking his head ruefully, Kiledgard glanced around the meadow, then down at the berry bush he was standing in front of. "You realize this is all your fault, right?"

And it was. He'd been in his own little world, wandering hither and yon with his head in the clouds, traversing God knows how many lands in the process, not to say anything of the people involved. And then he'd merely tripped up in a thorny bush and all of a sudden was back in the world.

But WHERE in that world?

A purple form hurtled out of nowhere. Luca was fleeing Guilian and his cruel words, his cruel way of life. At least, from her current perspective. What she truly was running from was herself, and her fears about her own life.

The only problem was, she was crying as she gallop pell-mell across the berry meandow, blinding her to everything. She crashed through bushes and even had a run in with a sapling a ways back. But none of it kpet her from continuing to gallop on heedless, tears pouring down her long, lovely face, and leaves getting caught in her mane.

Thus it was that the beautiful mare did not see the pale body against the green field... and plunged straight into the stallion, nearly full-force, knocking herself to the ground in the process. Startled otu of her own misery, she blinked up at him with pale, pale blue eyes that shone with tears.

Intent as he was on the offending shrub, Kildegard hadn't registered the sound of approaching hoofbeats until it was too late. By the time he realized what he was hearing and had looked up, it gave him just enough time to see the mare that moment later collided with him, sending her flying and he himself staggering back a bit.

An odd occurance, to be sure; normally HE was the one that wasn't paying attention to his surroundings, not everyone else!

"Wow, you've sure got a hard head, don't you Ma'am?" She'd run straight into his shoulder, connecting with the joint their quite nicely. Still, it wasn't the first time he'd had such a number done on himself, and after regarding it for a mere moment, he looked to the mare...

And was immeadiately taken aback by the profusion of tears. Good grief, how hard had she hit him for it to have hurt that bad? Or had she been that offended by his comment???

"Geez, I'm sorry about that, Ma'am. Are you ok? Did you hurt yourself much? I'm not a unicorn so I couldn't heal you or anything, but I could point you where one is...well, I could if I knew where I was, but that's another story. Anyway, are you going to be alright?"

Luca sniffled a bit and blinked her wide blue eyes, focusing on the source of the voice and the bump on her head. At the first sight of red, she nearly burst into tears again, reminded so of the red stallion and his painfully distant ways. But all the white made an impression finally, along with his words of concern and the offer of help... sort of.

She gave a sudden gasp of breath, not having realized she'd been holding it. Tears still flowed, and she staggered to her feet, reeling faintly both from the blow to her head as well as the sudden onset of weariness from all that emotino and running. Her head hung dejectedly as she answered him.

"A unicorn would do me no good unless it could somehow change the past or secure the future. I'm doomed, and that's all there is to it." In the back of her mind it was beginning to seep in that she was being at least a bit overly dramatic, but the rest of her didn't care. She was lonely and sad and wanted comfort! A flash of a look at the stallion made her wonder if she should just say this, or if he'd even be receptive to comforting an ugly hag of a mare like her.

Blinking, Kildegard watched as the mare pulled herself to her feet, tears still dribbling out of her bright eyes. Her words were a bit more disconcerting, if confusing; after all, if a unicorn would do no good, then she was either on death's door this second or perfectly fine. And since she didn't look all that dead...

"Well, I suppose that we're all doomed, when you get down to the bare facts of mortality and all. But you know, I don't think that's what you're talking about. I'm used to being in the dark, Ma'am, but I think I could be a lot more helpful if you let me know what the problem was!"

The stallions's tone had varied as he spoke, from outright teasing to more somber reflection before ending on a gentle scold. After all, he WOULDN'T know what was wrong unless she told him, which she probably had known or WOULD know now, and since she hadn't left yet that meant she didn't NOT want to talk to him...

Simple logic, made more palatable by the wide grin.

The purple mare found the various perspectives expressed by the stallion in the space of a few breaths rather bracing. She blinked at him, her long lashes fluttering appealingly without her actually meaning to BE appealing, for once. She took another deep breath and considered what he'd said.

"My trouble is what I have become, and what I will be," she replied seriously, "I am afraid I am rather unlovable." She gave a deep sigh. "Oh, I know stallions love to love me, but only for the moment. It's all the here and now. I am patently unsuitable as a mate." Her head drooped more. "And although I have been happy thus far with my fate, the foals of a male acquaintance has made me realize it cannot last forever. What will I do when noone wants me anymore?"

Her eyes filled with tears again, and she impulsively buried her face against his side and sobbed all over again, staunchly ignoring the growing voice of reason that said she was being completely ridiculous. She wasn't ready to admit it to herself yet, but she was definitely applying herself in an attempt to gain the comfort of this handsome young stallion.

Had he known the mare thought HE had been rather changable in his statemnts earlier, he might very well have thrown back his head in laughter after her own performance, had he not had her sobbing against his side by the time she was done. While it was CERTAINLY not a common occurance for him to be comforting a teary mare, he did have enough sense to know that there were some times that just weren't appropriate for certain things.

Like laughing at tears, for example.

Instead, he simply stood there, allowing her to have her cry while he attempted to make some sense out of her seemingly erratic behavior and words. Quite the puzzler, in all actuality, but he'd always liked mind games.

When he finally thought he'd gotten it, his voice was much slower, more deliberate; almost like a foal who wasn't quite sure he'd gotten the answer right.

"So...you're basically like a female philanderer, is that it? Love the boys and then leave them, only now you're tired of it? Or they're tired of you, or you thought you were tired of it with one stallion and he didn't want to settle down...or did your male friend settle down with another mare, leaving you alone?" Wow, that was convoluted; no sooner had he finished speaking than he was shaking his head again. "Sorry, I guess I'm not that good with this."

Her sobs stuttered to a halt as she stared at him in shock, though admittedly the pain was a lot less now that it wasn't Guilian saying it so off-handedly. There was distinctly less sting when it came from the lips of a soquili that did NOT live that way. Part of her paused to wonder why, and the rest of her fought down the urge to giggle at him and his amusingly odd way of approaching things. It was rather refreshing.

She gave a last sniffle as the tears dried in her eyes, and she smiled tentatively at him, making full use of her curling forelock to frame that smile. "It's alright... I suppose you don't really need to grasp all the details." She lowered her lashes in a mournful way. "I just am worried that as I age, I'll be left ugly and alone." She raised her lashes again and clearly was waiting to be told that she could never be ugly, and perhaps even be told she wasn't alone now, after all.

"I don't really philander so much as enjoy the company of tall, strong stallions who make me smile and laugh." She tipped her pretty head to the side with a sad sigh. "I'm afraid I might be losing my touch, though." When she chose to exercise it, her powers of allurment were substantial, and she was beginning to turn on the glow of attraction. The question really was... would he be willing and interested, or was this to be the point where her fears were confirmed? For they were quite real fears, despite her apparent haphazard way of dealing with them.

It was amazing how much better a smile could make anyone look; as the purple mare started smiling, even tentatively, Kildegard's own smile widened. That had to be better, right? It sure looked better, that was for sure; she had a nice smile, one that really seemed to stand out. Maybe because her teeth were so white against her dark face, or maybe because they went so well with her hair; he really couldn't say, not being an expert...he just knew it was a nice smile.

However, she was also good at what she did; even though he wasn't really a "stallion of the world" in the same way his herdmate Guilian was, he'd have had to be dead to NOT react to the mare at his side when she was turning on the charm. That fact was evidenced by the profuse blush that blossomed across Kilde's face at her comments, seemingly innocent as they were. Worse, his white face did NOTHING to hide the blush.

"You know, I think you're being awfully hard on yourself. You're not ugly, you're really pretty. Lovely, even." Hard to be serious when in this sort of predicament, that much was certain. What, he wondered, made a mare allude that sort of powerful sex appeal? Were you born that way, or did you have to train up to it...

His black eyes were starting to cloud over as the daze of wondering began to descend, only to be abruptly dashed away as the mare's head turn caused her mane to tickle his neck, bringing him back with a thud into reality. The realization he'd been starting to zone out made him blush even harder, which must have made him a pretty picture, to be sure! "And I dunno, I think that if you get the touch you keep the touch and can use the touch as long as you want..."

And he was rambling now, and embarrassed.

"I'm sorry, I think I'm turning into an idiot. Or else already was one but in denial. Either way...yeah, I'm sorry."

She began to smile again, more warmly this time, as he spoke his stammering reassurances. Her warmth was genuine, for she could easily see he meant every word, even if he didn't seem entirely sure of what he wanted to say. And that blush! She found the whole package rather endearing. The seductive glow intensified as her emotions began to back up her other desires.

And then he stumbled over himself to an adorable halt, and she couldn't help it. She chuckled softly in her deep, sultry voice, shaking away the last of her stormy mood. "Oh darling, you are so very sweet." She leaned to nuzzle his burning cheek. "No worries, you are not an idiot. Merely very kind-hearted." She gave a dramtic but unladen sigh and leaned against him companionably, though she positively oozed sex appeal. "I really don't know what came over me. Perhaps it was news that my male friend was a father, with a female staking a claim on his loyalty." With another sigh she nuzzled closer to this very good listener, disregarding his possible chagrin at her familiar nature. "Made me suddenly wonder if I was missing out, I guess."

Kildegard's mind was swirling with confusion; one moment, he was trying to cheer her up, the next moment she was rubbing up against him in a VERY unfamiliar way, carrying on what for all the world might seem like a very banal and matter-of-fact conversation. What was he supposed to do???

Cheeks still darkened, he shifted uncomfortably in an attempt to focus on the words rather than the way they were spoken. After all, just because she enjoyed the company of stallions didn't mean she was TRYING to get his interest, right? This had to be an ingrained habit, something that she did because she didn't know she was doing it. But damn, he had to admit she was good at it. If he hadn't been consciously aware of the fact she couldn't be trying anything, he might have already...

Ok, no more thinking about that.

Attempting to keep his voice level, the words were nevertheless a wee bit strained when he was finally able to reply. "So, now you're wishing you had a family too? Or is it that you wish you were in that mare's shoes?"

Yes, continue the topic of possible relations with someone else. Way to go.

Her ears flickered thuoghtfully at his question. It was a very good inquiry, really, touching at the heart of her issues. What WAS it she wanted? And why had that upset her so? She took a moment, standing very still near this thought-provoking and very adorable stallion, mind turned inwards.

She pondered the possible answers seriously. No, she was pretty sure she didn't want to be Izusa. She nearly physically shuddered at the very idea. Did she want Guilian's foals? That took a bit more mulling. It wasn't that she'd mind... after all, she wasn't against the idea, was she? Hmm... with a soft sigh she let that thought go for the time being. She certainly knew she wasn't pining for him to have ties to her, of all things. He was like she, and she knew better than to seek to bind him to her. Just look what had happened when that kalona mare had tried! No, that wasn't it either.

But still, some part of her did long for someone who didn't care that she had loved many stallions. Someone who would lover her for always and aye. Someone who saw past the pretty purple pelt and the alluring blue eyes, and valued her for what she really was, but didn't usually let anyone see. Except now two stallions had seen that inner part, one right after the other. Guilian, and know Kildegard.

At thought of the stallion, her eyes refocused on him musingly. She knew now she didn't seek such a binding now, but had to admit she would someday. "I think," she spoke slowly and softly, "that what I came to realize was that some unknown day in the future, I will want someone devoted to only me, and who is worthy of my devotion to him." The last part startled her, surprise showing in her eyes. She hastened on as if to wipe the sentiment away. "But that's far in the future, and I'm over it now, so it isn't anything bothering me now." She spoke so quickly to reassure (though whether him or herself, it wasn't clear) that she was practically babbling.

After a silent moment following this outburst, she suddenly grinned at him and ducked her head in a fetchingly embarassed way. "Now who sounds like an idiot?"

As the mare began to speak her ponderings, Kildegard almost literally let out a sigh of relief. See? All that worrying for nothing, she was just acting the way she was used to acting.

Still, in spite of that Kildegard couldn't help but feel a tug of sympathy for this mare, she who loved many and yet desired one. Maybe. Sort of? Damn, even when he was trying to be serious he couldn't think straight!

So at her comment about being an idiot, he gave her a thoroughly sheepish grin. "Still me, although since it's more my thoughts than my words, you probably won't believe me. But trust me, the idiocy is there. Really. And I'm glad you're figuring things out, at any rate; speaking from the vantage point of one who's frequently caught off guard, I know how unpleasant it can be. Are you feeling better now, though?"

This last question was accompanied by a look both curious and searching as he looked for any sign of tears. Finding none, his smile widened; not only had he been able to get himself coherant again, he'd also been helpful! Two positives in one day!

She glowed beneath his concern and answered quite honestly. "Oh yes, I feel much better." Then the lashes dropped, and her head leaned against him, her silky mane sliding softly against his neck and curling into his own mane. "But I could still use some comforting from a strong, sympathetic stallion," she murmured, her intentions now quite clear. She raised her eyelashes slowly and smiled up at him with those wide blue eyes. "A stallion who considers himself an idiot but who has helped a mare in distress through her time of trial, and deserves his due rewards."

Nope, there was no mistaking her intentions whatsoever.

Damn it, there were those impulses again. Granted, that wasn't really something that could be habit, could it? There wasn't some way to interpret those words other than as an invitation for...well, what he was currently thinking, was there?

No, there had to be. Mares did NOT proposition him. Or whatever this was, since proposition wasn't the right sort of word. He wasn't that sort of stallion, the sort that they'd...well, WANT. And this mare was sexy, sexy with a capital "S". Hell, she could probably get any stallion she wanted, just by winking at them!

She had to feel beholden to him, that was it. Why, he had no idea, but she couldn't seriously WANT him to...

He had to let her know she didn't have to do anything, one of the hardest things he'd ever had to do. Voice creaking with the effort, he gave the mare a look that was predominated by a blush. "I'm glad you feel better and all...but you don't have to do anything." Wait, did that sound like a brush off??? "That is to say, I'm honored; thrilled; I'd LOVE to take you up on that, really." Ok, that was even worse. He sounded like he was a mere horny stallion! Nevermind that he was...

"Um, let me try that again. I don't want you to feel you have to do something you don't want to? I mean, I'm not really...the type...who's good at this sort of thing?" Bad. "I mean, who's done this sort of thing..." Idiot, you do NOT admit that sort of thing. "Ok, let's just go back to 'I'm an idiot' who totally understands that you'd rather not mate with me?"

Not great, but most viable.
