(Ryan, Armadillo 100%

It was hot out, too hot to do anything. Ryan lounged in the burrow he had dug so far. Someone kept collapsing anything he dug in the village, so he had decided to set up shop along the path to the beach. He'd been working for awhile that morning, but was forced to stop as the temperature rose.

Now he was curled up (as curled up as he could be, anyway) asleep in his burrow, the towel he wore and he himself covered in dirt. In his claws he clutched his hat, one of his only reminders of his former life.

((Cecil: 50 percent, Northern Mockingbird))

Cecil frowned, at least, with that big bulky beak, tried the best he could. He wasn't going to be able to play his flute with this thing on his face... At least his hands didn't turn into wings like a lot of the other islanders he's seen, not being able to write or sign would make this a living hell. So he had his "Voice" so to speak. No pun intended.

What kind of logic did this twisted doctor use? The mute was surprised that bird islanders could talk at all with those clumsy things. He thought that this was supposed to cure, but it became just more of a hassle.

Lost in thought, he tripped over something, and landed on his hands, barely catching himself, thank goodness the serum spared his hands... The grains got into his feathers, and onto his jeans. Cecil gave up wearing any sort of shirt when the wings grew in, with the feathers coming in as well, he wasn't going to need a shirt at any rate.

He looked at the ground to see a little hole... It was another islander's work, wasn't it?

Cecil stared.

Ryan started at the noise of someone outside his burrow. His first instinct was to dig deeper, get away from the predator outside. Slowly it filtered through his sleep-adled brain where he was.

Confident that he would be safe, either through the labs or his burrow and hard plates, he poked is head out. There was some bird guy out standing outside his burrow. With his bad eyes, he couldn't make out many details, but he definitly smelled like a bird.

"Can I help you?"

And as expected, someone poked their head from the entrance. What the? Whoever it was, they looked interesting. He crouched down to take a closer look, and he signed absentmindedly,

Sorry, just pass-

Whoops, he forgot, he's the only one that knew sign language. Cecil took out a pen and a small notebook from his jean pockets and scribbled down, he put the writing in front of the animal-man's face.

Sorry, just passing through.

Once Cecil crouched down, Ryan actually got a good look at him. Yep, a bird. He saw the hand movements, but he didn't recognize them as sign language.

Then Cecil wrote on his notebook, and Ryan understood. Or at lest he thought he did. "Can't talk with the beak huh? That has to suck."

Reluctantly, he crawled out into the sun, putting his worn hat on as he did."Oh, I didn't introduce myself. I'm Ryan." He stuck out a clawed paw"

((The hat is similar to what my avatar has on, only without the belt buckle.))

Cecil shrugged, a look of apathy for his disability on his face. He wrote down his thoughts before he shook Ryan's hand... Paw.

Couldn't before, it's not all that bad when you get the hang of it. The name's Cecil.

What animal was he turning into, some sort of mole? That's what he thought, with the hole and all. He'd show his confusion if he had his mouth, this beak though... Useless.

Instead, he decided to inquire through his notebook,

Sorry if I sound rude, but what animal did they put in you?

"Oh, sorry for the mix-up. Nice to meet you, Cecil."

Ryan couldn't tell what sort of bird the guy was. Maybe a crow or something?

He couldn't help but glance down at himself at Cecil's question. "Heh, at this point it's more like what animal did they put me in. I'm an armadillo. Can I ask what you are?"

Cecil wrote, They say some sort of Mockingbird. Another shrug. He really didn't feel like discussing too much about it. There were two more stages that he seriously wasn't looking forward to. If it was any consolidation though, he would be safe from Atticus Finch from now on... Or any hunters that just happened to read that book, not like he was ever going to see any sign of human civilization other than the doctors, guards, and newcomers from now on. With a sigh from his beak, he penned in some more words in his book.

So I'm guessing they're done? The changes I mean.

"A mockingbird? You know, I don't think I ever saw one. Well, I have now at least."

Ryan was pretty happy with the way he'd turned out. Maybe it was the armadillo, but he was content. Maybe not being able to bend hi back in any way was a bit annoying, but at least he had fur and not scales.

"As far as I know they're finished with me. You look like you've got a ways to go still though."

Cecil rolled his eyes and blew out some air, sitting himself down. He made a fist and leaned his head against it. Another scribble.

Yeah. You're lucky, at least you don't have to live with the paranoia about what's going to happen next.

It didn't say in the writing, but it was written all over Cecil's barely expressible face. The kid didn't like this at all, at least there were people to talk to about this kind of stuff. He seemed to lighten up a little.

Ryan sat down as well, though it took some concentration to do. His fused back made things difficult. If he leaned back too far, he'd end up stuck on his back, which sounded pretty embarrasing.

"I already lived through it. It's not too much of a mystery though. More feathers, some bird legs." Ryan wasn't trying to frighten him or anything, he just didn't think that far ahead.

Cecil let out another sigh, if he had enough voice, he'd say something along the lines of "Great...."

His wings tried flattening themselves out the best they could as he layed on the ground. It still hurt though... What are the use of wings if you can't be in the sky? Heck, why bother putting them on people if they're not going to use it? He closed his eyes, opening and closing his fist to let out his frustration.

Ryan didn't like awkward silences, though that could be said for most people.

"So, where were you heading, if I may ask? Down to the ocean?" A swim didn't sound to bad at the moment, though the ocean might not be the best place for him to swim. He'd probably capsize.

Cecil stayed on his back as he wrote more,

I have no idea. You up for anything? The birdkid was not feeling very picky about what to do.

"It's so hot out, a swim sounds nice, It's got to be at the lake though; I can't swim to well in choppy water."

Ryan stood up and dusted off rhis chest fur, or tried to at least. He'd managed to get pretty dirty digging his burrow. "I guess I could use a bath too, huh?" He said sheepishly.
