Thanks all! I love Chilo, he's adorable. He seems to think I'm a tree, he's always trying to eat my pants when he's in my lap.
I don't know how long they live exactly, but the pet store owner conjectured about three years. It's definitely long enough to enjoy him.

Good news: I was wrong, they live FIVE TO SEVEN!!!
I'm so excited. I got him a little half-log to sleep under and some rocks to crawl on today, in addition to calcium powder. Tomorrow I'll get him some fruit as a treat. I love the little guy.

It tickles like crazy, it was best when I put him on my head biggrin That was ridiculously fun.
My parents were a little apprehensive at first but they love him now. He's just so sweet and gentle it's hard to stay scared. I've had several friends be terrified at the idea and pics of him but change their minds once they held him. He's just really soothing to watch.

Hello to Chilo! I am a huge fan of millipedes, especially the giant African variety. People always have this gross factor and fear around bugs, and millipedes are so utterly harmless. No biting, no stinging. Some can let out a type of defensive fluid or dye in self-protection, but that's only if they feel life-threatened. They're so cool.

I saw one of those once, in like , 4th grade. They tickle!!
3 years is a long time for a "bug" life. That's pretty awesome.
If they have no jaws, what do they eat?

The local zoo I used to volunteer at had a giant millipede like that that we were trained to handle, and I loved him. It was awesome. I would have taken him out more, but the trainers freaked us out about accidentally dropping him and killing him. So, I was a bit apprehensive. sweatdrop
That's awesome. I want one now.
