Syam watched with stern yellow eyes. He had entered Starry into novice battles and was actually worried about whether or not she was ready. She was a good fighter, but there were a few weaknesses that an experienced fighter would easily recognize and take advantage of. He hoped that her battles in the novice rounds would aid her in perfecting techniques before her moved her on to more advanced levels.

The dark skinned male had sat in a shady area of the arena, a place only VIP persons allowed. Because of his notoriety he had been allowed in, with his partner, Circe. She too seemed eager. She either believed it was another fighting day for her, or she was worried that Nanaki, Starry's gryphon that she had seemed to grow frond of, would get hurt.

Circe's orange eyes flashed as she paced back and forth. She herself had fought in this arena many times. But seeing who was in the arena now, she became agitatedly worried.

Her favorite male was in there with his partner, against a man and his own companion. She groomed her neck nervously, as though trying to appear normal, but she couldn't take her eyes off the battle.

Starry gulped as avoided an attack, and cursed herself slightly. She was nervous and anyone that was paying attention could see it. This was bigger step than she'd planned, and although Starry herself thought that she was a good fighter; she didn't think that she was ready for this. Her heart was pounding before the silver haired young woman had even stepped foot into the arena. Starry'd been to many fights before, but only as a spectator. Never had she participated in one until now. However, she calmed herself down knowing that she had a great mentor and his teachings was so far helping her greatly. Fortunately, she'd also taken Syams' advice and braided her hair before entering the arena.

Nanaki was in a serious manner, enjoying himself. So far he'd been avoiding any and all attacks from the gryffin before him. The fire coloured gryffin longed to look at Circe, he knew she was here because not only had he seen her efore the fight; but he could smell her scent in the air. he sternly kept his attention on what was currently going on, and wondered if the opposing gryffin thought that just because he had one eye, that he could get away with trying to beat him. However, Nanaki kept right in step with his enemy, and to Nanaki; losing was NOT an option to him.

Syam felt a little guilty. He knew that she wasn't fully prepared for this, and he knew that she knew. However, he also knew that it was bes to learn by doing. It was impossible for him to NOT go a little easy on her, so by facing a real opponent, she would learn best. He couldn't help the smile when he saw she had braided her hair as he had suggested carelessly on their first meeting. It was flattering that she had actually remembered.

But now he was focused, ready to jump in if the novice fighter she was up against got too eager. There were rules in the novice battles to keep it from going out of hand. The weapons had to be dulled, and were lined with a special powder to show marks where they had struck. Killing was strictly forbidden...

But that didn't mean sometimes people got too eager.

He rested his hand on the hilt of his own sword nervously, though no other part of him showed anything less than pure belief in his pupil.

Circe squawked in an annoyed tone. Nanaki seemed distracted by her presence. That didn't mean she was going to leave. Growing impatient she walked over to Syam and bumped him lightly.

"I know." Was all he murmured to her as she tried to settle down, resting her beak on the edge of the fence that separated them from the battle taking place in front of them.

The gryph that Nanaki was fighting wasn't as new to this as he and his silver haired partner were. His feathers were blue and silver and he even had a few scars. Even the man that Starry was fighting was more experienced. She clacked her beak worriedly. It was pretty much a given that they would lose their first battle, it's how it usually worked.

The gryphons in novice battles had little to do with the actual score. Not much riding or commandeering happened, but it was vital to their training for later -real- fights. In this, when the human was down, that was the end and the scores would be calculated.

Well, this. is. just. WONDERFUL.

While she was doing a fair job, she knew all to well that she was going to lose. It wasn't like she thought that they would win on the first try, oh hell no. She was more realistic than that. Starry knew that she wasn't going to win on the first try, although it'd be nice if she did.It would most certainly boost her self-esteem. Thankfully because of all the training she'd been going through with Syam, Starry wasn't nearly as tired as she would've without training. but the fact was, was that her opponent was getting more and more eager; and eagerness in battle was never a good thing. And despite he attempts to block, most of which she got; her opponent had slipped through her defenses and strike her once in the esophogus and twice on the chest with the rather hard metal hilt of his sword. It was a rather quick motion, and that made it hurt even more.

Starry was barely given anytime before the bloke roundhouse kicked her to the ground. Oshi- that's gonna SERIOUSLY hurt tomarrow...

Well. That was it. Her match was over.
At the very least, she'd lasted a HELL of alot longer than she thought she would. Starry'd barely lifted her her head offa the ground and saw that that man's eagerness still hadn't died down, and he was going to strike her again. With the freakin' blade this time!

Before Nanaki knew it, his companion was on the ground. Which, if he remembered correctly, meant this odd fight was over. Although before he knew it, Starry's opponent was coming at her agian; and that wasn't going to fly with him.

Syam relaxed visibly when she was down. However, it was short lived. The novice male had gotten carried away, and was now raising his sword to take a strike at Starry. Granted, it was with a dull blade, but it could still seriously hurt her. Without even thinking he quickly vaulted the fence with ease, before the ref could even blow his whistle.

Drawing his sword the moment his feet touched the ground, he pushed off, leg muscles shifting tightly under his skin. Eyes narrowed as he leapt toward the two novices. Timing it perfectly, he swings his sword up and around, knocking away Starry's opponents blade. While the man stumbled back from the blow he landed a deft sidekick without even hesitating, causing the male to fall back on his butt, blinking in shock at Syam.

The usually cool male glowered down at the novice, looking ready to strike him again. Controlling his anger, he sheathed his sword and turned to walk away as the Ref walked up to talk to the male. He walked over to Starry and held out his hand to help her up.

Circe too let out a relieved sigh as Nanaki stepped back, acknowledging the end of the battle. Before she knew it though, her partner had leapt the fence, and taken off after the human male that was fighting the silver female.

Quickly, she too jumped the fence, in case the other gryphon attacked her human. However, it looked like the other beast knew better than to do anything to a human, it also seemed to know that his own partner was out of line, but trotted over to protect him from future attack just in case.

Seeing her male head toward Starry, she trotted over to Nanaki, nuzzling as though to tell him he had done well... for a newbie. She sniffed and clacked her beak as though chuckling.

Starry had lifted her head to see Syam fly into action, and it was rather flattering that he did so. She knew that just looking out for her though. But she loved it anyway. The way he knocked that guy senseless was priceless in her book, and she'd someday return the favour. The young woman had already taken off the Katar on her right arm, and took Syams hand. She smiled and said quietly, " Thank you, Syam..."

Nanaki was already trotting over to Starry, when he was slightly surprised the snaek nuzzle that Circe gave to him. He was concentrating on the moment when she'd surprised him, and he nuzzled her back vigorously. The large one eyed make squawked back in reply, knowing that Circe was calling him a newbie. He didn't like the term, but it fitted since he was knew to this arena type fighting.

Syam was still sporting the hardened fighting look, or 'game face' as he called it, not having sufficient time to finish being pissed at the lowly male that had gotten carried away. Not yet acknowledging her thanks, he looked her over quickly, in a business manner. Not seeing any visible wounds beyond scratches and bruises, he forced a half smile, "Welcome." He grunted a bit.

"Hold on a sec while I talk to the ref." His face softened and he winked as he headed over to the referee. Talking quietly for a moment he frowned, shrugged, then headed back over to Starry, "No such luck. The guys disqualified, but since you lost before he broke the rules, they can't let you move on."

Circe clacked her beak again at her favorite male. He was so proud, it was kinda cute. Flapping her wings, she straightened up to her full, impressive height. Studying the humans she got the impression that Nanaki and his human wouldn't be moving on. She huffed a bit. Humans handled things so strangely.

Nudging Nanaki with a "let's go" attitude she turned and hopped the fence. She was hungry, and they'd have to get out of the city if she was gonna catch something to eat.

Starry shrugged. There wasn't much she could say or do at this point, other than mentally expressed how much pain she's in. The young woman simply gave Syam a look that said, ' Better luck next time '.

Nanaki steadly trotted after Circe, and hopped the fence the same as she did. The fire coloured creature could hear his favourite females' stomach growling, so he obviously inferred that she was hungry. Nanaki himself was somewhat hungry at the moment too. Such an excerise will do that to you.

Syam forced a half smile and offered the silver haired female his arm, "Let's get you to a spa, nothin' keeps the soreness away like a massage."

Circe made her way to a spot relatively absent of people and took that chance to take off into the air. Her huge black wings flapped powerfully as she gained altitude until she found an updraft, soaring around and just enjoying flying.

Starry could tell that Syam somewhat forced himself to smile at her. She figured he was still steamed about the whole ordeal, and that was quite understandable. The young woman dusted herself off, and took Syams' arm, inwardly grinning to herself. " ...A massage sounds great to me right now..."

Nanaki followed the large black female that he'd grown so close to. Once a relatively empty area was found, the fire coloured male spread his wings and leapt into the air. He flapped his wings until he got enough lift and found a good draft, and flew around Circe.

Syam led his female pupil to a well known spa in the city. He had more than enough to cover both of them getting relaxing massage. Not that he needed one... he just liked them. And why not hide it behind a gift for the silver haired female.

"Anything else you'd be interested in trying out?" He wondered, wanting to get her something special for her first battle, "We'll work on the practice tomorrow."

Circe pumped her wings, gaining speed and altitude as she circled the ever distancing ground below. Resisting the urge to screech in sheer delight of flying so as not to scare the potential prey away, she began scanning the ground for food.

Starry walked in step with her mentor as he led her to some spa. She was ins ome desperate need for something to relax her, and the woman hoped that getting a massage would help her out. "...I can't really think of anything right now..." She nodded at the latter part of Syams' sentance. Practice. Practice makes perfect.

Nanaki loved the feeling of the wind blowing through his feathers as he flew. With each powerful pump of his wings he stayed ' in step ' with his flying partner. He didn't know what he'd prefer eating right now, anything sounding good to him. The fire coloured male wanted to eat anything he could get his claws into.

((Let's focus on gryph interraction and say that Syam and Starry are getting a massage))

Circe circled the area, scanning the ground below. She wasn't focused on Nanaki flying beside her, she was just watching for movement on the ground. Her sharp orange eyes catching glimpse of something, she floated lower and looked closer. Yes, there it was. It was an old deer that had fallen back from the herd. Flying up to get height once again, she went into a sharp dive.

The old deer didn't notice Circe until it was too late. She slammed into the animal, automatically breaking most of it's bones with just the impact. With a desperate cry from the small herbivore, Circe bit into the animal, silencing it for the final time.
