I despise RR with the passion of many, many burning suns... but I don't really have a favorite chef. I suppose I'd have to eat something they cooked in order to judge - so of everybody I've had something to eat from... my dad's chef at his restaurant, Edgar, makes some pretty good chicken and other meat-based meals; my mother makes some good crock-pot chili, and the head chef at the Center Moriches Diner makes the best manicotti and strawberry shortcake I've ever had (and those are two of my favorite foods).

As for television chefs - anybody who isn't RR or a redneck will do.

Of the ones you listed, I selected Mario Batali. Of the FN personalities, he's the guy I like the most. I take in Babbo and Lupa every time I'm in NYC. The food is just wow.

If I had to pick a chef, my favorite would be Thomas Keller. What can I say? I enjoy Bouchon and The French Laundry were "Wow" moments for me.

Other guys I enjoyed inclued Anthony Bourdain, Eric Ripert, Wylie Dufresne, Alice Waters, Alan Wong, Alain Ducasse and Elizabeth Falkner (yes, I know she's a pastry chef, but damn the stuff at City Cakes is good).

Oh...and I loathe Rachel Ray as well. Her "cooking" makes me cringe. To quote Chef Bourdain, "Where the saintly Julia Child sought to raise expectations, to enlighten us, make us better--teach us--and in fact, did, Rachael uses her strange and terrible powers to narcotize her public with her hypnotic mantra of Yummo and Evoo and Sammys." Sandra Lee needs to go, too.

I like Anthony Bourdain a lot...

I also REALLY like Ina Garten (Barefoot Contesssa).

I despise, DESPISE, Bobby Flay. He's a total a*****e and jerk face and a lot of people in the Culinary Industry pretty much laugh at him.

Rachel Ray I actually like. She comes under a lot of fire and people don't call it true cooking.. but, in today's world not everyone can afford, time wise or money wise, to spend a lot of time cooking a meal from scratch. She uses canned food in a very original way and has gotten a LOT more people into cooking than really stuffy "Use this rare organic fruit bought for 400 dollars from China" type people. People can say "That's not cooking" all they like but that's the way normal Americans cook, really.

Oh, and since when does being a Pastry chef disqualify someone from being a good chef?! blaugh Pastry and baking is VERY hard for most otherwise talented and notable chefs to do. It's an entirely different branch of Culinary Arts that takes a lot of skill and patience, it's very enlightening and fascinating to watch good Pastry chefs at work.

I really like the French chef off of the original Iron Chef. But, out of the listed chefs, I'd have to say Mario Batali (spelling?).
Hmm, Ina Garten is great too. And Alton Brown. !!! I can't pick anymore.

I want to let you know that I'll rather have my mother's cooking than anyone's cooking.

I picked Other. I friend's mother is pretty good in the kitchen and my friend follows right after her. Hell, she might surpass her mother in time w/ more time in the kitchen (she just started seriously cooking for the past yr or so).

Anthony Bourdain makes me laugh. I have no idea why. Alton Brown, I find to be very informative and Bobby Flay far from my honorable mentions list.

I have no opinion of Rachel Ray save this- Do you really expect me to believe that it would take 30 minutes to make a meal? All her stuff is pre prepped which isn't fair.

Lastly, Sandra Lee Sucks and anybody who can eat cookies made out of frosting disturbs me greatly.

I agree with most of that, as I can't say anything about the top statement.

I didn't realize I had a grammatical error there. Oh well. I would have said something about Paula Deen but I figure I might wanna leave her. She's a rags-to-riches story. let her enjoy her happiness. Besides, when she first came out, her food looked a lot like the kind a food I'd want to eat once in a blue moon because I've become a bit of a paranoid health nut (Her cooking looked good enough to eat every damn day).
