Anlach was still one, and Brychan had meandered a little bit away from his mini-harem to seek out other potential females. After all.. two was a rather piddly number, especially for any outrider. Most, if not all of the hinds had been claimed already, but that didn't mean he couldn't muscle his way into someone else's harem and take a female of his choosing.

He kept glancing back towards the area where his two grazed, making sure that nobody was trying to sneak their way in. All the while, he searched among the other harems... looking over the females and the stags that guarded them. His head held high, showing off his starry pelt and the fine crown of antlers adorning his head.

It was midday, and the sun was bright and warm, the world now lost in the throes of spring. Fresh grass about for all to eat. The birds singing and chirping while the glorious scent of new vegetation was in the air.

Rhomae sighed, letting herself lie on the cool green grass and watch the activities of Anlach with a calm eye. Her stag was off...somewhere, trying to gain more hinds She cared little where he actually was, his constant complaining over weather and other stags and..anything he could find to complain about, really, getting to be a bit too much to deal with for her tastes. She herself was the type of female to accept things as they were, change them if she could..and if not, not go gallivanting around telling everyone that had working ears of her woe. Why? Well, because she realized that not everyone wanted to hear it.

Too bad she was also the loyal sort...kind of. Not so much that she'd stay with him if she had the option of not doing so.

What a good time of year to be considering such a thing! The light grey-hind, with a curtain of black that fell over her ears, tail, and the top part of her back - which was great for warming oneself in the sun, by the way - lifted herself from the grass, shaking loose the few bits of green that decided to stick to her pelt. Her head lifted proudly and swiveled around, getting a better view of the surrounding area with those pretty blue eyes...before deciding that it would probably be good to actually wander around a little. Several of the stags apparently liked looking at her, after all...

...hopefully she wouldn't run into her own right now.

Well of course.. it wasn't like Rhomae was an eyesore, far from it. It was no wonder that she had already been claimed by another stag. Her stag must have been somewhat formidable if none of the surrounding ones had challenged him for the rights to breed with her. However, there was one stag that was walking through that may or may not be a challenge for him.

The contrasting dark and light pelt quickly caught Brychan's eye. It seems that in some ways he was no different from other stags, as he looked upon Rhomae as she quietly walked along. Hm. Either she had not been claimed, or someone wasn't tending to their harem very well. He assumed the latter, very likely... since he could not possibly see this hind not being spoken for.

Still, Brychan boldly strode forward to meet the hind and placed himself in her path. Lifting his brows and tilting his head with a somewhat boyish grin on his features, "Lovely day for a stroll, is it not?" he asked. After all.. he was out for a walk as well, albeit they both were about for entirely different reasons.

She stopped, calm gaze looking over this bold male with the amusing grin who had decided to 'grace' her with his presence. He was cute, this one...in the large-and-foreboding sort of way. He wasn't threatening, at least, to hinds like herself. Or...perhaps it was just her? It mattered little. Rhomae made it a point to carefully inspect his pelt, black with those tiny little starlets...pretty. Hmm.

Good looks and a kind attitude was not enough to win her over, of course. And certainly not so soon.

"It is, perhaps you would join me rather than standing in the way of it?" she asked with a kind, albeit amused, voice. The kind of voice that sounded as if it would always be kind in tone, but...well, she could be fierce if she needed to. Regardless, she meant it as nothing but a friendly gesture, and she hoped he would take it as such. First impression didn't say that he was one of those overly-zealous 'HOMIGAWDSHEASKEDMETOWALKWITHHERMINENOW' stags...but then, who knew?

"Who might you be, stranger?"

Brychan's chuckled good naturedly as she pretty much asked him to move out of her way, but also invited to walk with her. He had gotten her attention, and that was the intent. "Certainly" was his reply as he moved around to walk at her side, like some sort of escort.

She was rather charming, and it seemed that Brychan had a good eye for hinds. Although, the stag could see and feel the eyes of the stags and hinds nearby... like 'Uh oh... he's flirting with so and so's hind'.

But no.. he knew that he hadn't won her over yet, but it seemed as if he had a good start. Surely if there was a stag that had claimed her, he would be coming along short. And if not... well. X3

"Brychan" was the name he gave her, deep blue gaze tilting downward as ears flicked forward in interest. "And what might your name be?" He looked up momentarily only to cast a glance in the direction of his harem, before looking back to her.

Mmmm. Indeed, other stags were looking. Hers, though...well. She could see him from where they were, but it seemed as if he was trying to court another hind. Suave and smooth...that's how he got them. And though he was strong, he wasn't the brightest of the bunch. Not that he was stupid, but..well, she was young when she joined him. Stupid move, made out of the excitement of her first Anlach and his suave talking. Older hinds knew of him, and were immune to his talks. She wished she would have been such a hind to begin with.

Would he notice? Mmm..eventually, yes, but for now, she had a chance to talk with this one. Aaand if this one didn't want her, he would leave whenever her stag came charging up. And if he did, and he won whatever battle ensued..point for her!

"My name is Rhomae. It is a pleasure to meet you, Brychan." she responded, giving him a small smile. She liked this one. However, she hadn't seen him before - she would remember such a pretty, unique pelt. That meant that she knew little about him, because the hind had also not heard much of him. Was that good? Possibly. No news was good news, right?

No news is good news. Well that's certainly the case in many situations, but its hard to tell. He in turn, had never seen her before, and didn't know much about her. However, he liked what he saw and her personality was nothing to scoff at. She would get along well with his other two hinds, he thought.

"Lovely name, and the pleasure is mine dear hind" he said with a dip of his head in a most polite gesture. Hopefully his mannerisms were befitting of an aspiring Lord. He certainly tried to be on his best behavior.

However, Brychan managed to catch her glance in the direction of the stag that was wooing another hind not too far away. A smirk came upon his muzzle, before he tilted his head in that direction. "Is he yours?" He asked, certainly amused that if it was so... that he hadn't yet noticed the starry pelted male horning in on his lovely hind.

What a gentleman. At least, right now he was. Anlach could do strange things to stags. Who knew if this one could turn out to be a terror? She doubted it, though. The psychotic ones tended to twitch once or twice during their little 'Be my hind!' speeches.

"Thank you," she replied to the comment about her name. Lordly material? Perhaps. If he was always so kind, then perhaps. Oh, and strength. Kind of needed that too. Looking at him, she had a feeling that was covered.

"Excellent terminology." she said with a chuckle, appreciating 'Is he yours?' rather than 'Are you his?'. Distinct difference. Sighing, she flicked her tail a bit. "Irritatingly enough, yes. My apologies if I have inadvertently 'busted your bubble', so to speak." she added with amusement.

Anlach certainly could change a stag... it had made Brychan more aggressive than he usually was. That is unless you were talking of his duties as an outrider, where he had to protect the herd from threats and the like. But generally, he was rather mild mannered and kept to himself on the off season.

Brychan laughed at her reply to his 'excellent terminology'. He was clearly amused at the 'bursted bubble' aspect and even his sides shoke, a jovial expression on his face as he laughed. "No no... not at all, I had already figured as much. Besides.. if you don't mind me saying, it seems that you're less than enthralled with the current arrangement. Is that not, so?" Judging from what she had said, it would seem to be right.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 23, 2007 9:55 am

"Less than enthralled?" she echoed. Quite, actually. The hind, gentle as she was, found herself wanting to ring his neck at least once every new moon. If that wasn't less than enthralled, she didn't know what was.

"That's one way to put it." she responded, looking up at Brychan. Admittedly, she was glad she gave him such a laugh with her statement. Well, apparently she hadn't busted his bubble..right? Rhomae couldn't tell for sure. He said it hadn't, very well. What did that mean? Was he interested Did she want him to be?

Well, might as well wait for him to make the next move, as she was really unsure of what more to say. She didn't want to bad-talk her stag..but then, she didn't want it to appear as if she was happy either.

Well its always nice to have an element of mystery in a male, is it not? He seemed to fit that bill on occasion. He wasn't letting on quite yet if he was going for her or not. Again, another glance was given in the direction of his harem. All seemed well up there.

He went quiet for a few moments as they walked, casting another glance in the direction of the stag that still hadn't noticed them yet. Poor fellow. He almost felt bad for the guy... almost. Okay not really.

Brychan continued to ponder for a few moments, then came to a stop as he reached his decision. The stag lifting his head high and bugeling into the air, the hair on his neck rising a bit. That call being a clear indication of territorial claim or challenge... something that should get the fool's attention. And perhaps will be an answer to Rhomae's question.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 23, 2007 10:32 am

This was amusing. Quietly walking along, talking to a stag that, if nothing else, seemed interested in her well-being, with her own stag completely ignorant to it all. Or...well...Brychan had stopped. Oh dear.

She watched her own stag as Brychan bugled out his call, watching the male's head swivel in her direction faster than she had ever seen it. Ooohh...he was mad. The hind he was speaking with ran off after the call, sensing that things were about to get a bit testy. Indeed they were.

She backed up a little as her stag came charging up, skidding to a stop in front of Brychan and letting out a very unhappy sound, pawing at the ground several times. He looked to her, then to him...then, back to Rhomae again. "Is this..male giving you problems?" he asked her, completely ignoring Brychan for the moment.

Rhomae just...blinked. He was kidding, right?

Ah ha... so that had gotten his attention as Brychan thought it might have. However, what the stag would do next wasn't all that expected as he merely came to a stop infront of them... looked at them... then asked Rhomae if he was bothering her. Brychan lifted a brow, unable to hide the amused look on his face and trying to hold back his own laughter that threatened to come again.

He could have easily walked off with Rhomae quietly, ushering her back to his own harem. But no... Brychan was a bit more honorable than that. He wanted to do things fairly and to challenge the stag that laid claim on this delightful hind. The fact that this stag didn't seem to pick up on that was... baffling to say the least. He didn't say anything at first, letting the hind reply to her stag's question first.

That didn't mean he wasn't on guard though, waiting to see if he would make a move to defend Rhomae.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 23, 2007 10:53 am

He was still waiting for an answer?

Rhomae sighed, that's it. Patience gone.

"I do believe that this male would like to claim me, you brute. So no, there's no problem." she said quietly, putting a decidedly large bit of force behind her words. The stag looked stunned, then looked back to Brychan again...as she stepped back further. Was she afraid of him? Barely. However, he was strong, and so was Brychan, by the looks of it...best not to be in the way, should there be a confrontation.

The other stag stared for a moment more...before lifting his great head and bugling a return challenge to Brychan. Wow, he would fight for her? That was certainly surprising. He lowered his head and pawed at the earth with thundering force...however, he was, in fact, a brute. Rhomae had a feeling that this would be amusing.

Bring it! This stag didn't intimidate Brychan any.. otherwise he wouldn't have challenged in the first place. Let the battle decide who gets to claim Rhomae. As the other male lowered his head, Brychan did the same. His hooves also scraping the earth as brows furrowed in concentration.

Brychan made the first move, since he was the challenger. With a loud bellowing bark, he lunged foward to lock antlers with the other male. To test the strength of the other, and see how sturdy he was on his feet. As well as the sturdiness of his antlers. It was a good that thing Rhomae stepped back, for these fights could get a bit ugly. Although he never saw any become lethal. Infact, Brychan still had some marks from his last scuffle with another stag, when he had fought for Loreena.
