It's called anthropology. The study of peoples and cultures. They do the same thing to Americans. That's why there's study abroad and such. 3nodding

I think it's human nature to try and want to learn about cultures that are foreign to your own. See how the other cultures have thrived and lived. If we didn't have anthropology, then we couldn't influence each other to try and become better nations and countries. As Butterfly said, the Japanese study us just as much as we study them. We take items that we find interesting from each other and try to implement them into our lives too! blaugh It's a big Win-Win situation (well, most of the time).

Actually, I can tell you right now that the Japanese are very thrilled to hear a non-native speaker speaking their language. It shows your respect for their country, and they are grateful for it.

I concur that the Japanese culture is very interesting. However, sadly, Ijime (bullying) does occur in Japanese schools. Which, often times, is much more extreme than even in American schools. They also have a much higher suicide rate, and though their crime rate *is* lower, they still have homicides, theft, etc.

She said she was happy that she was on a smaller island when she was little (so she didn't get picked on much, if at all).

I think it's common for people to want to be something they are not. Even if present social appearences and messy history are there, it takes courage to accept that as ones past and move from there. Take heart, you are where you're supposed to be!!

I definitely find the Japanese culture intriguing as well as the people who live there. Even though they are getting westernized they still have customs and traditions that other places don't. It's interesting to learn about other countries and their historical timelines.

I love Japanese culture! I think it's because they have some really old traditions and they make good movies (horror movies). Also I like the language it's cool and it's not so hard as it seams. wink
I have done research on their photographic history. smile I really like the Japanese culture!!! whee
