Its hard pinpointing what kinda time was. I'm pretty sure that the series takes place in the early 1900s and the movie takes place in 1932. You're right, though. It's kind of hard to pinpoint the time. There are a few episodes where they tell you the year, but they are few and far between. Envy would probably be the last one standing, but Gluttony could potentially eat everyone....
