NTSC? PAL? What are those? I've never heard of these two terms. The two different systems used to display colours on TVs. I don't know the technical details about it but it's enough to know that the US and Asia use NTSC and pretty much the rest of the world uses PAL. The two systems are incompatible which is why American games won't work on European systems and vice versa, unless of course you have a modded machine.
And I agree with the original poster in that Sony is screwing up big time. They took the backwards compatibility chip out of the PAL PS3 because the chip was so expensive. I'm sure this is true but that does mean the PAL regions are even more screwed with the PS3 because they didn't drop the retail price. If Americans are wonderging what Europeans are bitching about, the standard price for a PS3 is 600 euros, at current rates that is 760 USD. In some European countries the machine is even more expensive though for some reason. Then there's the release date, US and Japan got it back in November last year, We only got it late March this year (Yes slightly over a week ago). And now Sony seems to feel the need to screw the PAL regions out of one of the PS3s major edges over the competition, the backwards compatibility chip.
For those of you who didn't do the math on this, PAL regions are treated to an inferior product at a higher price after a longer wait.
I'm so glad the PS3 sucks hard enough for me not to want one.
