It has come to my attention recently that this RP needs a bit of a jump start, and I'll be honest in saying that I wholeheartedly agree.

We're in a bit of a rut and I think the best way to fix this would be to start an open discussion where all members are welcome to offer plot ideas, creative input or anything of that nature.

That said, I now declare this topic open for discussion. Have fun.

Ideas so far...
- Battle System?

My obvious favorite idea is the battle system. Practically every guild I am in consists of one though this is the guild I post in most regularly. (Except my dnd guild) Anyway, point being in a guild like this, the most succesive type of battle system, as well as the most rewarding for people who have been in this game for a long period of time and dont want to start working on the power of their characters now, is the post/line structure.

The post structure works like this, everytime they post 4 lines, it is considered a post. Posts=experience and most things you buy with them are pretty cheep.

Secondly is the line structure. For each FULL line you post (meaning that a line reaches to the end of your post bubble) you gain an experience. Things bought are obviously more expensive.

Anyway, as for plot ideas. There is obviously the apoccalypse and sentinel storylines to consider. I dunno much about the other ideas we could impliment. Most sagas other than the wanda/sentinel/apocaplypse sagas were very short or were only important to Wolverine or something along those lines.

Ok first of all i was tired because it was 3 in the morning and i near drank 2 liters of mountain dew when i got this plot idea

I recently bought marvel nemesis: rise of the imperfects (i get games as they go on sale sweatdrop ) and when you pick your character to fight with you got 2 choices, a good version of them and a very evil version of them with the dual voice thingy and they get glowing eyes and near zombie complexion (except wolverine, he for some reason gets scaly whee ).

I was thinking could that be a fun story line were every ones got to fight themselves or others that it world make them feel bad if the had to fight.

Ex Jillann vs. Zion (mainly because jillann sees her a best friend(aww))

(Inu helped via yim)

Another ex: Dairus vs. Kidd [or vise versa] (any one who’s seen at least 3 post from these two characters would guess why smile )

see what i mean?

i'd see it working , but i cant think of the way for it to start out.

oh and if this confuses any one i lay stuff out this way sorry sweatdrop

Aww I dun want Jill-chan and Zion-chan to fight...they're to adorable as friends.

I'd say some kind of alternate universe type of things. I'm never good at helping with plots. All I can see is like a twilight zone type of thing. I think I've read to many x-men, naruto and elfen lied humor fics.

I think I remember something like that in a kid's cartoon once. Or maybe I was just out of it and imagined it. Either way, it seems very familiar. Also, I am going to test a certain battle system on everyone's character abilities. I think the tri-stat method has all we need for practically everyone from Mr.T to Doc-Occ so I am going to test around with that. Will let everyone know what I think later. Sithlord brought this up awhile back as well.

Hmm. Yup. Battle system is sounding good, by Rahziel, would you mind tossing me an example of what you mean by counting lines and all? The first part makes sense to me, but the second isn't clicking. Plus, I need to know what I'm getting myself into here...

And as for keeping track of stats and all, what about each character or 'player' within the battle system keep a journal which they will be in charge of keeping updated with their exp, hp, mp, whateverp points as they go along. Something like what is done in THIS GUILD, perhaps.

If I were to count every post I've made in the guild, it would take me waaaaaaay more than a half hour. Keep in mind that I've got about two years worth of posts to go through if I were to document all of them.

Dito. Not to mention, it would be unfair for newer members/character, don't ya think? If we're going to introduce a battle system of sorts, which I think is a first for this guild, shouldn't everyone just start off on the same level and just move on from there?

Also, I'm assuming all this battle stuff with be an addition to the current RP, not a completely replacement. More of an option for those who wish to take-part then anything else, I mean.

I think it makes sense in a way. The older characters IE Morgan, Victoria ect would have more experience than say sarah or Lizz simply due to the fact that you've been RP'ing them for a longer period of time than I have been RP'ing those two.

Yah, it hardly makes sence for someone who got here yesterday to be able to take oh say Sith's Shroud.

Yes, that's exactly what I was saying.

That out of the way...does no one else have any opinions whatsoever concerning all this? I'm saying this because the RP has pretty much been lax for the past 7-10 days and I won't stand for it being that way for much longer.

Ideally, I plan to have whatever we want to do next started or at least near started by Spring Break. Sooner would be better of course, since I'm getting stir crazy over on my end...

That said, shall we pick it up and continue with our current mini RP plot until we can come up with something grander, or does someone else have a better idea?

PS: Kungfu, I wasn't ignoring your marvel nemesis idea, I just don't quite understand it...

Personally, I'm not that fond of a battle system. If I want to keep track of numbers and roll dice, I probably wouldn't be on a forum.

That said, I'll make some suggestions toward that end, anyway. Now, if we're doing a system where we roll dice, the first thing is to figure out where it applies. Only in combat? Everywhere a "skill check" or other random-luck style of arbitration might be desired?

The second is how to handle characters. Personally, I'd recommend a pretty freeform, point-buy style like BESM or GURPS. Especially as such rules systems usually allow players to make all manner of unusual characters, which is relevant to the setting. If we want rules to portray superhuman powers, they need to be flexible enough to handle anything someone wants to play.

As for experience: I'd recommend starting everyone on an equal footing, for the new system. Why? Not because I'm new, but because it's fair. If the old guard all end up all-powerful because they've got loads of retroactive experience/character points/whatever to spend, it's going to discourage newer players a little. Instead, I'd suggest just making the initial point cap relatively high, and not hand out any expereince for new things.

Finally, I'd recommend making the entire system optional. If people want to use it, they can, but if they'd rather just go with the standard forum methods, they can do that, as well.

Eh, I'm not so sure about a formalized battle system. Maybe I've just seen it done poorly too often to be comfortable with the idea, but I can easily see it being used to justify things that, in-story, don't make sense, because of an experience difference. In my experience, both in the fandom and in real life, anyone can beat anyone given the right circumstances. It's not impossible for a white belt to win against a black belt if conditions are in his favor.

To be honest, that's why I've always preferred the Storyteller system to, say, d20: it just doesn't make sense that simply being an adventurer for a few months suddenly makes you able to survive having a greataxe embedded in your head.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I like things as they are now, and if there's a dispute a GM can step in, find out what's going on, and rectify the situation as needed. I do forum RP for storytelling, sort of like a multi-author story; when I want to have dice and statistics and calculations, I call up the group, break out the pencil and paper, and do tabletop.

Of course, I have no objections if it's implemented on a voluntary basis, so people who want the formal system can use it and the people who prefer otherwise can keep up business as usual. There would just need to be some sort of way to settle the difference when a battle system player and a pure-prose character come into conflict.

I think everyone's got a good point here.

My suggestion? We have a trial run. We make a seperate thread, so that we can test out any battle system ideas without having to worry about it messing with the main forum.

This way, we can work out any kinks, and if we don't like the system, no changes have been made to the main stuff.

All of this sounds interesting to me. I've always done things with the Storyteller system like Kougaji, but I'd be willing to give anything a shot.

And along with Kingfu's whole plot idea, I think it would be cool to battle evil friends, but who would I battle? The evil-not-dead Raze?
