Do you all consider item hoarding a viable form of income here on Gaia? Or is the marketplace sniping the only substantial form of income?
Discuss here.

I horded Mimzy's and made a score on them. I had 60 of them at one point.

On my first gaia account, i had horded 43 BTKs at an average price of about 6k each. I ended up selling them all for 10-12k each one day when i got sick of seeing them in my inventory. I ended up quitting a few weeks later and giving away all i had, only to come back a few months later to see them selling for 20k+. I definitely felt like a fool for selling when i did, but it definitely helped me decide to do it again.
This time...i went with another item people consider a "newb" item, much like the BTK was once considered. Simply because it will only be considered as such until it reaches a certain price, then people will automatically want them again.
That...and they are a necessary part of the headless glitch im sporting. So as long as it continues working, ill continue buying them whenever i have the gold. lol.

Sure, it's viable. It just takes more patience than playing the daily market fluctuations. Sometimes items shoot up overnight, but generally it takes time for the price to rise. But it takes less time on a daily basis than continually watching the market.
If I'm sick of seeing something in my inventory, I put it in my storage and forget about it smile . I figure they'll still be there when I'm ready to sell.

I dont generally admit to it... But i started this strategy of buying/selling on Neopets of all places. Unfortunately, NPs were alot easier to come by to buy items. Earning gold simply by posting and games is slow going, so obviously the rate in which i can buy these items is much slower than i wish it were. But...once i cash in my first hoard, ill have far more gold to work with in my next endeavor, and the size of my hoard can be that much larger. ^_^

I have issues when it comes to hoarding, once I start I really can't stop.
I currently am holding 150 momos. 100 pandys. and 200 balloons.

Your estimated value of those momos is probably more than my entire net value. XD
Of course, you probably managed to buy alot of the other items at a low price. I know the pandy packs have inflated, but im assuming you bought most of those before they inflated.
Luckily for me, the item im hoarding is one of those unfortunate items that cant be searched for in the marketplace. So they tend to deflate more than most items, as its a pain to figure out the cheapest and people only sell them in forums.

I like the G-bots because of the glitch. I use it in essentially every avatar i have. Which is quite a few. lol.

Very nice... LOL.
I dont spend a ton of time on Gaia, as you can tell by my relatively low post count for the 9 months ive been back. So the hoarding has been slow going, which i guess can be good too. Inflation goes to s**t when you buy like 100 of an item like that all at once... But when you buy a few at a time, it doesnt take much for them top drop back to the price you've just paid.

Hoarding stuff is a good way to occupy any gold that you're not using to vend or exchange with. I only see it as profitable if you still have enough funds left over to buy/sell things as you normally would.
Or if you're going away on an extended break - it's better to have items sitting on your account than gold. Items may inflate, gold will just.. sit there. surprised

I'm hoarding Long Bull Horns. I figure it will be a good investment in the future, so I bought all mine at 200g or less. xp
I was hoarding katanas but then the prices fell for so long I finally sold them.

I've still got an Easter basket from 2005. I figure I'll keep it until 2015 or so.

The danger is that more than you will horde the same item and when you go to sell, they may as well causing an abrupt change in price. That happened to the angelic microphone in dec/jan and the item fell 4,000 in a day or two.
