The Gaian Market
It is a well known fact that most Gaians shop in the Marketplace, assuming that items sold by vendors will cost less than items sold sold by NPCs. More often than not, this is true, even if only by 1 gold.
It is also a well known fact that the Marketplace is the only place to get monthly avatar items WITHOUT paying cash.
That being said, the following is a method of earning gold on Gaia using the Marketplace...
Method 1: "Buying Out" the Competition
Some vendors sell items for prices ridiculously lower than they are worth. In this method, you buy an item for a low price and sell it for slightly higher (low enough to remain the lowest price on the market). If said item is something mundane, then the profit might not be as high. However, if the item is a monthly item, then the profit may be significant.
However, if the lowest price of a certain item is being sold for the same price by ANOTHER vendor, then this method might not work so well.
Example:
-The lowest price of a certain item of clothing is selling for 2000 gold by a vendor. The second lowest price of the same item is selling for 3000 gold by another vendor.
-Buy said item selling for 2000 gold.
-Sell the item for higher than 2000 gold and lower than 3000 gold.
-After item is sold, buy the NEXT lowest-priced item and repeat the method.

Avatar Art
An Avatar Art is a drawn, inked or painted picture of a clients avatar.
The manner in which these pictures are created varies from Pixel Art to portraits.
Unless they are blind or are attracted to the blind, people like be prettier than they really are. Gaians feel the same way about their avatar. Sure, our little avatars look nice, but in a crowd, they look just the same as all the other Gaian avatars. To make their creations stand out, they need to be presented in a way that brings them to life.
Avatar Art is awesome because unlike the stiff mannequins that our avatars are, drawings and paintings are infinite in possibilities. It's more than possible to give a character life through a simple drawing.
Which brings us to the next method of earning Gold...
Method 2: Commissioning Avatar Art
Because there are so many Gaians, an Avatar Artist is not likely to be without clients.
As an Avatar Artist, you will need to consider 3 things:
1: What to offer your clients
You can decide to just stick with portraits, but a great deal of artists usually give variety to their clients (waist-ups and full-bodies, among many).
With variety, there's also potential to make more money.
If, for example, you sell a portrait for 2,000 gold, you should charge at least 4,000 gold for a waist up, as it would take twice as long for you to draw a torso under a head. Ditto for the full-body; the amount of time drawing a full bodied character would probably take twice as long as a waist up, so charging 8,000 would be rational.
But don't limit yourself to just these. Among many other things, you can charge extra for specific poses, or coupled portraits. As I said before; the possibilities are endless for drawn Characters.
2: How much to charge your clients
You may not think you're art would be good enough to sell for much, but chances are, you're a whole lot better than a crap-load of other Gaians.
What I recommend is you start selling low; 2,000 should be good enough to start with for a portrait.
