She hovered in a ball of light that seemed to be made of glass, eyes wide open and lit like beacons in the night. One orange. One purple. Two colours to represent the two halves of herself that had formed after years of being imprisoned.

For though she had finally been set free from her stone cage she was still trapped, trapped by her own insanity that refused to let her think clearly.

Images played on the surface of the light and if one was to step close enough they would see the little cub's image flying across the skies, with a snake wrapped around her middle.

That snake was called Nyoka, and he was her guardian, though he hated the fact with a passion. Yet he was not with her now. In fact the cub was quite alone.

She looked almost ready to begin her steps into the juvenile development, but not quite. And here in her strange, floating sleep, surrounded by an orb of pale light, she looked almost peaceful.

Rokopelli... The voice taunted, Rokopelli...

This was her home, the realm of the gods. She felt most comfortable here, more so because she could rely on this realm to keep her safe from all of the mortal terrors. She didn't have to live in fear and she could always just take a load off to relax. It was a lovely feeling, and she often came to this place to unwind and to allow her mind some thinking room. She didn't have to worry about anything here.

Koya, goddess of the past, wandered through, heavy and travel-worn paws moving without a sound. She had recently been trying to live as a mortal, hunting and traveling as a rogue. She had decided to stay away from any 'unworldly' powers, and forced herself to live as her lower kin did. But she found the stresses compeltely difficult to handle. It was too much for her soft way of life, too much of a change. She felt ashamed that she was unable to handle it, but she was determined to improve herself.

Sighing, she wondered when she would be able to change. There were so many things that she could improve, yet her past tied her down.

"Isn't that always the case.." she laughed quietly. Witnessing the earth's past was a far more complicated thing than anyone could ever imagine. Without the past, there was no future, yet there were times when the past seemed completely unnecessary. The past was a heavy thing, dangerous yet comforting. It was very hard to understand, and often times Past herself did not understand.

But, that wasn't the reason she was here. She was here to relax, and relax she would. But where to rest?

The plain gray goddess moved quietly enough, her mind clearing as she allowed her thoughts to drift away. Fleetingly, she wondered if there was anyone about. A lot of the gods seemed to have been wandering around the mortal world, and she was beginning to think there'd be none left in the realm of the gods..

But there was another here, someone small and hidden away, fast asleep like an unborn cub in it's mother's womb. The light pulsated and for a moment it seemed as if the little Goddess would sleep forever, then the glow in her eyes dulled and the orb gave way. She floated briefly before falling to the ground, the jarr of her landing forcing her into a wakeful state.

"Mother?!" The word blurted from her mouth even as she landed.

"Mother? Mother? Why do you call her! She only hurtses us! Yes, yes she hurtses us so!" It seemed the knock had forced her two personalities into being and once again pushed the child into a very confused state.

"Where are we?" The timid half of her whispered, cowering down beneath her wings. "Pelli?" Her other half did not reply and the cub shivered, creeping forwards on silent paws.

It was then that she saw the silver Goddess not too far away and with a whoop of joy the Godling plummeted forwards, yowling in fright.

"Mama! Mama! You've come to save us!"

Koya was deep in thought, having allowed herself to slip back into that state again after figuring there was nothing of excitement that was going to happen any time soon. Her thoughts had enjoyed the attention, jumping this way and that then sprouting into millions of different ideas. That was the problem with knowing so much of the past, you thought a lot of the future. And the future was never something the goddess quite understood. It was far different from her domain, and she felt herself fearing it at times. But she couldn't help but wonder..

What was in store for her? Would she ever really have a family again, like the one she had lost so long ago?

Her mind was about to wander a little further and deeper, but the voice of another suddenly split her thoughts, scattering them until they were down to nothing again.

"Mama! Mama!"

Having been lost in her own mind, the silver goddess had thought for a moment she had traveled back in time, back to a time when she still had her daughter. She turned excitedly, eager to set eyes on her beloved cub. But her blue eyes were met not with the familiar off-white of her daughter, but something completely different--someone completely different.

'Snakes' coiling around her forelegs, braids and wings that held the colors of the rainbow. A godling.

Koya stopped short, caught off guard by the realization that she had actually run into another god. After having gone so long without contact with another of 'her kind', she felt strange being face to face with one, and one that called her mother no less.

But she did not tell the child otherwise. It was her motherly instincts, perhaps. "Shh, child. Child, it's all right," she soothed, moving slowly towards Rokopelli. She was unsure if the child was seeing her or something else. After all, she had not yet determined what this child was the goddess of. She needed a bit of catching up to do.

"Come here," she cooed, opening her wings in a warm, welcoming gesture. Something told her to comfort this child, and she felt no obligation to ignore it. But she tried hard not to get attached so quickly. This child's parents could have been anywhere nearby, and besides, bad things always seemed to happen with children that were in her care. But despite all that, she would still help Rokopelli so long as the other needed it.

"What are you doing, you fool!" Pelli hissed in Roko's ear as she made a mad dash towards the adult lioness. "Mother will hurtses us! Mother will trap us!" But the timid half was in control now and being very much intuned with her element, she was very confused.

She had spent centuries in that stone prison, thinking bitter, horrid thoughts about mother but there was always love there too. After all, she had done a bad thing. She had been a bad daughter. And in her tear filled eyes she saw not the silver lioness, but the hulking form of an earthy brown one with eyes as dark as the earth.

"Mother!" And then the soothing words came and she herself was transported back into the past. To a time when she had first been born to her mother, one tiny cub. She had sought love then but had never found it. But that didn't matter now, that was all going to change.

She let herself fall into those open wings and cuddled up against those silver forelegs, rubbing her cheek against them and purring contentedly.

But what would happen when the confusion ebbed? What happened when she realised that this was not her mother at all? Luckily such thoughts did not enter poor Rokopelli's mind. Instead she enjoyed the comfort, mumbling apologies that hardly made sense. "We're sorry mother. We're sorry. Please don't lock us away again. We've learned to take care of our powers now, we never even use them! We promise!" And she continued like that for a while, talking nothing but jibberish. For her past was all mixed up, twisted beyond what the reality had been.

In her mind her mother had always been gentle and kind, and yet the word often brought fear to her little heart. She remembered being trapped in the desert but her prison had driven her somewhat mad.

Koya was surprised at first, feeling the cub nuzzling her fur like that and purring in such a happy mood. She had never actually felt that before and it was something that both frightened her and made her feel relaxed, at home. But, more importantly, it made her feel happy. For once in her long life, she was happy again. Smiling, she lowered her head down and nuzzled the top of Rokopelli's back, letting her tongue rasp out over the other's fur comfortingly.

When the godling spoke of forgiveness, never using her powers again, the silver goddess grew curious, confused, and slightly fearful. She knew she was not this child's mother, yet the little female seemed to think so. She decided then that she wasn't actually being seen, there was an illusion or perhaps a figment of the other's imagination that was coming into play here. But still, she chose to put that off in favor of comforting the child first.

"Shh, no, it's all right. You aren't going to be locked away again." How could a mother lock her child away? Her wings twitched with eagerness to reach out and touch Rokopelli, to see her past. But this was another goddess, and as such Koya could not view her past without express permission. So she merely contented to wrap her wings protectively around the cub.

"You need to calm down," she said quietly, almost a whisper. "Can you do that for me? Tell me, what is your name?" The child might have thought it weird that her 'mother' would ask for her name, but really all she was doing was trying to get Rokopelli calm again by asking simple questions and taking her mind off of whatever was bothering her. Perhaps, then, that might even bring her out of her vision or illusion, whichever she was experiencing.

"Can you tell me that, little one?"

The comforting words of the lioness soothed the cub quicker than one might have expected. Her trembling sides began to soothe out into a gentle rhythm and soon she was calm enough to pull back a little and stare up into the lionesses face.

"We're calm now mama." She whispered in response, but even as she did so she noticed something different about this lioness. Her eyes, they were not the stern eyes she remembered of her mother, because no matter how confused Rokopelli became she would never forget those eyes. The poor cub juist wanted to believe that her mother had come back for her so badly that she had tricked her mind into believeing it, though only half her mind.

"Our name? Um. Oh yes! My name is Rokope--"

"No, don't tell her our nameses!" She interrupted herself. It was hardly surprising that she was confused if she had two minds living in her head.

"Why not? We can trust mama!"

"Mama should already know our nameses!"

Suddenly the little cub blinked and her eyes welled with tears. "Mama...have you forgotten us?"

Koya smiled down at the little goddess. It was good that she had calmed down so quickly, but there was something strange that she noticed..

"We?" she echoed, looking down at Rokopelli. She wouldn't have thought it weird if it had seemed that she was included in that we, but from the way the child said it she doubted that that's who she was talking about. There was someone else, but where? Quickly her blue eyes darted up and around them, searching for someone nearby. But there was no one. She looked back down at the cub, now completely convinced that she was seeing things that weren't there. She'd have to be careful. There was no telling what would happen or what she would do if her illusions were broken.

So until then she merely shook her head, "Nevermind," and continued on as if nothing were out of the ordinary.

Yet she couldn't go on ignoring it for long, for it seemed now that the cub was talking with herself, arguing almost. That gave off the notion that there wasn't someone beside her or around her that she was seeing, but perhaps someone inside of her. Of course, she never was good at guessing. Her domain pertained to facts, not guesses, as the past was set in solid stone. She wished she could have been a better mother, then maybe she'd be able to read children easier.

When confronted with the blunt question of whether she remembered her or not, she began to sweat, so to speak. The cub had gotten through part of her name, but it seemed she had cut herself off and left the silver goddess hanging. She searched her memory quickly, for she knew of all gods and goddesses that were born, whether or not she knew them on the spot and whether or not she had met them.

"Rokopelli," she said, piecing what the cub gave her and what she knew together. But she felt horrible. She wasn't this child's mother, yet she continued to insist that she was. What would happen when the truth was revealed?

Not wanting to wait in suspense, she immediately added on, "But child, I'm not your mother." Her soft features turned into a frown, and she folded her wings against her back uncomfortably. "You may think that I am, but it may just be your imagination.."

Koya really was no good at the comforting thing. She needed to socialize more.

Roko's eyes brightened when the lioness spoke her name and the smile was clearly visible on her face. "See." She said to her 'pessimistic self' a little smugly, "told you." But for now the other voice was quiet and again she felt a chill in her heart. It was never good when her other self refused to fight with her.

Then the lioness spoke again and Rokopelli's heart grew cold. Yet as if Koya's words had been the ones to break the spell of confusion she suddenly realised that indeed, this female was not her mother. Her eyes welled dangerously with tears as she realised that her mother would never have been so kind and as this realisation truly set in, the two halves mingled back into one, and as she spoke again her voice was clear and true.

"Not our mama?" She whispered softly. "No. You don't look like her." She agreed then, stepping back a little and fanning out her elegant, pointed wings. "But we're glad anyways...Pelli was right. Mother was mean." And then her mind cleared further and she remembered the conversation with the other Godling, the one where she had told him that mother would be mad if she used her powers.

"So then who are you?" The little one asked then, seeming to be unfazed by what had just happened. "Please don't tell mama about us if you see her."

The silver goddess couldn't have been any more relieved at the reaction she got from the godling. Rokopelli handled the information well, and she didn't freak out as was expected by the older female.

A thin smile played across her features as she looked down at the cub. "I'm sorry I couldn't have been your--mean?" she blurted, wondering. She was going to apologize for having led the cub on like that, but then Rokopelli seemed almost relieved that it wasn't her mother and said that her mother was mean. Koya pondered. Being an instinctual mother, she couldn't see how any parent could be mean to its child.

"Oh, I'm sorry..." she whispered, wanting to comfort Rokopelli but noticing that she had stepped back a bit. It was then that she looked away uneasily, unknowing of what to do. She wasn't good at socializing, that was for sure.

"Who am I?" she echoed, looking back to the cub. "My name is Koya, I'm the goddess of the past."

The silver goddess nodded slightly, then settled back upon her haunches with her tattered wings folded against her sides. "So you are Rokopelli... I'm having a difficulty placing your domain though.."

"Our domain? Umm..." She trailed off, her eyes scanning the form of the elder lioness. One day she would be big and strong, like this one. She'd have a good grasp of her powers and have nothing to fear from anyone, even her mother. When she was an adult, no one could ever scare her again. She desperately hoped that she would grow soon, for she was bored of being a cub.

Her tail swished behind her and on her forehead the snake headband seemed to glitter.

"Do you, see things in the past?" She queried suddenly. "Could you see our past?" Maybe if Koya could look into hers, she would remember what she was searching for.

Then suddenly it clicked and she smiled cheerfully. "Confusion!" She squeaked, "Our domain is confusion."
PostPosted: Fri Mar 30, 2007 6:31 am

Blue eyes were soft as the silver goddess watched the cub occassionally. She didn't want to pressure Rokopelli or make her think that there were all these things expected of her, and so she acted as if they were having a normal conversation, just lion to lion.

Yet when the subject was suddenly turned back to her, she fumbled slightly. It caught her by surprise, and she took a moment to recover.

"Oh, well, yes. I can see the past," she answered straightforward. "Sometimes it is more difficult to see it though, depending on how long ago something happened." Blinking, she looked immediately down to Rokopelli. "Your past? Well, I suppose I could. But for you, you'd have to allow me to do it. My... powers," she spoke carefully, not really sure they were powers persay, "work differently with immortals than they do with mortals."

When the little female's domain was revealed, she lifted her head and nodded slightly. "Confusion, that's right, I remember now. See, sometimes all it takes is a simple word to jerk the memory." She nodded again.

Then, she turned to more casual things. "What are you doing here, Rokopelli?" She supposed it sounded like a silly question. This was the domain of the gods! Shouldn't gods be able to roam it without question? She knew they could, but she was merely curious.

In fact, the little cub felt quite comfortable in the presence of this adult. She didn't snarl or growl or frown like mother did and actually looked quite nice. She was definately very pretty and she had lovely big wings. Unconsciously, Rokopelli stretched her wings outwards, but their span was no match for Koya's.

"We wish we could see the past." Rokopelli spoke cheerfully, "then we could sort out all the muddles in our head! You see, we're trying to get somewhere, but we have no idea what it is. It was so long ago, and now we've completely forgotton what I was searching for." She sighed and shook her little muzzle back and forth. "We would let you! As long as your powers dont...kill." The little one shuddered then and a flash of her memory sparked viciously in her mind.

She recoiled as she saw the two dead lions, one female one male, lying on the ground with their staring eyes.

When she spoke again her voice was a little shaky. "What am I doing here?" She glanced around as if she wasn't quite sure where 'here' was and then gave a shrug. "Don't know. We was sleepy and Nyoka was hissing at me, so we left him alone. Headaches..."
PostPosted: Sun Apr 01, 2007 12:00 pm

The silver goddess folded her ears back slightly as Rokopelli mentioned that she would like to see the past. It wasn't the child, though, it was more the past that she was directing the gesture to. The past wasn't a pretty sight sometimes, she knew that better than anyone. There were times when the Past herself didn't want to look at her reflection. The past could be so haunting...

She shook her head, coming out of her thoughts. Her past had nothing to do with this godling, and so she pushed all selfish thoughts from her mind.

Focusing her blue eyes on Rokopelli, she let a smile creep upon her features. "Forgotten?" she repeated. Normally forgetfulness dealt with memories, and memories was not her domain. That was her--

"Oh goodness no, child," she laughed slightly. "My powers never kill. They simply tap into the past and allow it to be seen by those that wish to see it. No killing, dear." And she was glad for that. She never liked bloodshed, and had thought that there was always another way to settle things, even if it didn't seem like there was.

When Rokopelli recoiled, most likely seeing something that wasn't here, Koya stepped forward slightly, concern clear on her face. She was always an instinctual mother, and when there was a cub frightened or lonely, she always wanted to comfort it. It was the same here. But she was not this child's mother, and so she held back.

"Nyoka?" she repeated, glancing around again. She had no clue whether this Nyoka was mortal or immortal, lion or some other species. Unfolding her wings slightly, she let them stretch out to Rokopelli, itching to comfort her. "Who is Nyoka?"

"T-that's good! We don't want to see anymore death. No, no, no." She shook her head fiercely and bolted forwards, twining between the female's forelegs. She somehow felt safer when she wasn't standing all alone. She pulled her ears up and gave a small nod, wondering whether seeing the past could drive a lion mad.

If that was the case then couldn't that be a kind of death? She shrugged to herself and decided that Koya would know whether the lion or lioness would be able to take it.

"Nyoka is our friend. A snake." She continued cheerily. "He is lovely and green with a yellow nose. Why, is he here?" She suddenly looked around as if expecting the cold-hearted snake to appear, but sadly there was nothing. They had been drawn together by some twist of fate and ever since Nyoka had set her free from her prison that had become friends of sorts. However, they had just had an argument that had gotten a little out of control and that was why she was here.

"Oh, now we remember why we're here! Nyoka was mean."
