Think, like, massive amounts of games and rides for all ages, and stands selling candied apples and popcorn and hot dogs and soda (or pop, depending on where you're from). People laughing, children having a good time, couples strolling hand and hand while they shared multicolored layers of cotton candy.
It was just before dusk, the sun was burning bright and orange in the sky. The lights were just starting to blink on, and everyone was enjoying to celebration that spring was on it's way. The giant ferris wheel was spinning, and somewhere at the bottom of it, Reese sat in his wheelchair with wide and amazed eyes.
He loved carnivals. And he got to enjoy places like this a lot more ever since Poppa had bought these new "beach wheels" for his wheelchair. They were wider, covered in a thick, heavy rubber with treads like a car tire. Originally made for rolling on a beach, they kept the sandy soil of the field where this carnival was set up from being bothersome.
"Which ride you wanna go on first, Buddy?" came Edge's voice somewhere behind him, and Reese glanced up at his adoptive father with a big wide grin, his tail coiling happily around his footrest.
"I wanna..." he started with a bounce of enthusiasm, but then he stopped. What did he want to do? "I wanna..." And Reese looked around, puffing air into his left cheek in though. "I wanna thee everything!" he finally exclaimed, two triumphant fists pushed out into the air.

Lamiah wasn't a delicate woman even if she looked like one, she may look and play the part of a Mommy really well but when push came to shove she could stand with the best of them. And when it came to keeping Valens in check and at her side she was able to do that in a way that LaVey couldn't ever figure out the trick too.
She could tell by the way his hand was twitching in hers that he wanted to bolt, he was shifting back and forth on his hooves and his ears were flicking forward to back and in all directions inbetween. The place was like sensory overload! And the boy could already see wanted to do first, there was a game where men were using a big hammer to hit a target, it sent a metal thing waaaaaaaaay up to hit a bell. He could do that! He could SO do that!
"Mom, Mom, Mom! I wanna do that Mom!" He said, tugging on her arm to drag her along pausing to stare at the ones currently playing which brought the two of them to standing close to Reese and Edge though neither one notice them yet Valens because he was to caught up in the idea of playing that game and getting a prize and Lamiah because she was trying to figure out if he could win at it, she thought he might be able to with what she had seen him do before.

Reese attention had been drawn by the loud PING of another strength contest winner, carefully rolling himself along towards the game with Edge just a step behind him.
"Wooooow," he muttered quietly in awe, watching another man take up the hammer and swing it down over his back. The weight went half way up the tower before landing back down with a thud, and the contestant got ready for another swing.
"You could do that, eathy. Couldn't you, Poppa?" the little seahorse boy asked over his shoulder. Edge coughed a little...bashfully, patting Reese's shoulder over the back of the wheelchair.
"You keep telling yourself that, Buddy."
Reese beamed up at his father, and glanced back to the center ring. The contestant had taken his third and final swing without making much of an improvement on his efforts, and was now walking away from the game area. Dressed in classic red and white pin stripe jacket and matching top hat, the man who stood at the center was calling for another person to come and test their strength.
Curious, Reese began looking around, trying to guess who would go up next when he spotted Valens! A pony boy! Not like Reese was a seahorse pony boy, but a real pony, pony boy!
"Poppa, look!" Reese called, pointing out towards Valens and his mom. "Hi!!!" he shouted as loudy as he could, waving both of his hands in the air and trying to get Valens to notice him.

Valens was all but jumping up and down awaiting his turn at the game, he gave a squealing whinny when the one who was currently playing was done. He turned to his mother and grabbed her arm, yanking at her sleeve, "Momma! Momma!" He said, his excitement growing. It was his turn! It was his turn now right? He was about to step forward to claim the massive hammer that one used to play the game as his when a voice caught his attention, he turned in the direction of where it was coming from realizing that the one calling was in fact talking at him.
The horse boy's dark eyes blinked before he tilted his head to the side, "Woah..." He murmured, taking a step closer. Was that kid wearing armor? He didn't even think before he moved, hand reaching out to poke a few times at Reese curiously.
Lamiah gave a squeak then reached forward to catch his hand, "Ah! Valens that isn't very nice, don't poke at people." She said, flushing, "I appoligize for my son." She said to the man and the little boy.

Reese was nearly bouncing with excitement when Valens headed his way, but stopped as the horse boy reached out and poked him. His skin was somewhat sticky and squishy and wasn't exactly hard like armor, giving under the fingertip. And the continued poking made Reese squirm, giggling.
"Hi!" he said again, his own hand reaching out to poke back before Edge reached out for his wrist at the same moment that Lamiah grabbed Valens.
"Easy, Reese. It's not nice to poke back," Edge chuckled, glancing up at the woman with a shrug. "No big deal, I know Reese didn't mind."
"That'th me! I'm Reethe!" he chirped, bouncing lightly in his wheelchair, his pale eyes wide. Somewhere in the background, there was another loud PING of the bell and Reese's attention was diverted away.
"Did you thee that?" he asked excitedly to the horse, pointing out across Valens shoulder towards the Test Your Strength game.

Hey... that was some odd armor! Valens gave a bit of a pout since he was capture and couldn't inspect the smaller boy farther, he had such an interest feel to him, he LOOKED armored but was sticky! And squishy! It was so awesome!
"Reese! I am Valens!" The horse boy said then set his tail to swishing as he leaned closer, he might not be able to poke him but at least he could look. He was neat looking, didn't look as if he had any legs! Wow, "Are you a snake?" He asked, first thing that came to mind of what didn't legs and had armored looking skin.
Lamiah shook her head, "I am Lamiah Black, this little monster here is Valens Sammael-Black." Her son did in fact have two last names, her own and that of his father.
Valens turned, looking at the game then hopped back and forth on his hooves, "I'm gonna play and win!" He declared to his new, snake friend.

"Valenth!" Reese said in a tone that mimicked the pony boy's, leaning forward a second or two after Valens also moved. They damn near conked noses together! Reese liked this friend!
"I'm Edge, and I believe Reese already introduced himself," Edge responded with a nod down at the boys. They seemed to be getting along well...but then again, it seemed to simply be Reese's nature to make fast friends of everyone.
"Thnake? I'm a theahorthe!" Reese corrected in his bright and happy tone. People confused him with other animals a lot! First Nibal asking if he were a tadpole, and now Valens thought he was a snake! Reese wondered if maybe he should start wearing a sign...so people wouldn't get confused.
But then again, he liked telling them what he was. Made him feel proud because he knew!
The dull thud sound of Valens' hooves on the ground drew Reese's attention, and he clapped his webbed hands together happily...about to comment before Valens proclaimed his intent. His eyes widened, and he made a small gasp. Only big men had been winning that game...
"How? Youth jutht a kid..." Oh, so blunt. Edge winced a little bit, making an apologetic shrug in Lamiah's direction.

"Theahorthe?" He asked, looking over at his mother and the other man not exactly sure about what one of those was. Lamiah flushed a little more as she realized what the little one meant and that he seemed to have a lisp.
"Ahh... Valens..." She lifted a hand to her head, "Hes a sea horse."
"Sea... Horse?" He turned to look the boy over very closely, "Your a sea horse?" He sure didn't look like horse... then again he had never seen what horses that came out of the sea looked like so... maybe this was what they looked like? Like snakes. He nodded, that had to be it!
Valens' dark eyes went WIDE and then he gave a bit of a snort through his nose, "I will! Will win! Will show you!" He said to Reese as if the boy had challenged him. He then turned to go butt his way into the line so that he could get into the game. It would seem those waiting were amused by someone his age wanting to play so didn't really complain about him cutting.
Lamiah groaned, "I'm sorry... hes a bit hard headed..." She said to Edge.

Reese blinked rapidly as Valens stormed off, confused. Looking up at Valens' mother, then to his own father, his little face was creased with worry.
"What I do?" he asked, meekly...his tail coiled tightly up against his body.
"I think you hurt his feelings, Reese," Edge said in that fatherly tone, kneeling down next to the young boy. "How would you like it if someone said you couldn't roll your wheelchair...because you're just a kid?"
Reese's little eyes widened, similarly to how Valens had, before his head dropped sadly. "Thorreh," he muttered, glancing up at his father.
"I'm not the one you need to say sorry to," Edge explained, motioning over to where Valens stood. Reese followed the motion, and with a confident little nod he started rolling his way over to his new friend. At least, he hoped Valens was still his new friend.
"Don't worry about it," Edge said again to Lamiah as he stood, watching the boy carefully as he rolled away. "I'm sorry Reese hurt Valens' feelings. If Reese had feet, he'd be a natural at sticking them into his mouth."

Lamiah watched as Reese moved off to follow her son before giving a smile, "Well I am sure they will clear things up between them, Valens isn't one to hold onto anger for that long... well if at all. He gets distracted to easily." She doubted he would even remember after he got his chance at the game that he had even been angry since by then he would have gotten to swing a hammer about, "Shall we go and watch?"
Valens was doing just that, somewhat. He was looking up at the one in charge up the game and the man was starring back as if trying to judge whether or not the boy was serious, "You do know this is an adult's game? The hammer is a bit heavy."
Valens stomped a hoof, "Can do." He said simpley, "Can do and can win."
The man gave him a bit of a look before he relinquished the hammer and held the handle out to him. Valens gave a smile, ears turning forward as he took it from the man. He drug the hammer over to where he had seen the other men standing... then looked at the weapon in his hands. He needed only to slam it down on the target which would cause the metal bit to fly up and hit the bell. This would be easy...
He looked over and then waved at Reese, grinning. Yay! His friend was going to watch! Yeah... he'd spaced off the fact that he was challenged, or at least thought that he was, already it would seem...

Reese watched anxiously from the sidelines as Valens took the hammer, inspecting the task. When the little horse boy looked over and waved, Reese nearly jumped out of his seat. So he wasn't mad anymore! Good!
"Go Valenth!" he cheered, clapping his hands and bouncing excitedly in his wheelchair. "That'th mah friend!" he said to a short, stocky man who was standing near him, pointing at Valens and smiling. "He'th gonna win!"
The man chuckled, nodding his head in that humoring sort of way. The whole crowd seemed to share that same thought: it was cute that the kid wanted to try, but no one really thought he'd be able to do it.
Edge walked up somewhere behind Reese, putting his hand on the boy's shoulder and causing the little tyke to turn around in his seat. "He'th gonna win, Poppa!" Reese said, giving a definite nod of his head before turning to watch Valens try at the game. He would win! He would!

Valens grinned widely, good! The other boy was cheer for him and clapping! He looked around in a whole circle noticing for the first that he had collected a bit of a crowd around him, he gave an even brighter smile seeming to enjoy the attention being upon him... then he did what they really weren't expecting... he lifted the large hammer up nad over his head with ease and brought it down hard upon the target which shot the metal bit up, up, up, and there was a ding!
Valens gave a whinny and started to jump up and down, if there was one thing he was really good it was just that. Doing things that involved brute strength.
Lamiah lifted a hand to her mouth to smother a giggle at the some of the looks upon the faces of the men that had been watching and nodding in that humoring sort of way, those that hadn't believed in Valens and his abilities, "My sons a strong little boy." She said to one of the men, grinning a bit.
Valens bounced back and forth on his feet, squealing that much more when he realized he was gonna get a prize along with getting to win the game!

Reese's jaw dropped damn near down to his chin when Valens hefted the hammer; speechless as, in slow motion, he watched the other child bring the massive mallet down on the lever.
And it took Reese another good three seconds after the bell had rung before he registered what had happened.
"YAY!" He nearly screamed it, his whole body just gushing with happy! as everyone around sat stunned or applauding the winning boy. "Yay Valenth! You won!" If Edge's hand hadn't been on the back of the wheelchair to keep it steady, there was no doubt Reese's jubilant celebration would have knocked the contraption over.
"He sure did show them," Edge managed to say to Lamiah over the crowd, giving a knowing smirk.
"Well, Kid," the carnival man said...trying to find himself after witnessing such an event. "You sure did win. So take your pick!" And he motioned behind him to the hanging net full of stuffed animals, most of them easily as large as Valens himself.

Valens gave the hammer back to the man and went over to inspect closely the toys that were laid out in the net before him, lets see now... he reached up to pluck from the net the blue and orange bear as it had a bright belly that drew his attention. He gave it a squeeze before he walked over back to Reese, grinning, "See!" He said, showing him the bear and held it out to him, "Here!" Lamiah gave a laugh at Edge's comment, "He likes to show off his strength, does things like this, moved the sofa, kicked a few holes in the wall." She said, holding up a hand to list things off on her fingers then giggled.

Reese's eyes bugged out as the bear was held in his direction, taking it with a little gasp of awe before promptly squeezing the ever lovingness out of it. So it was almost as big as he was...that was the great part about it! And it was a gift from a really awesome friend!
"You dah betht, Valenth!" Reese giggled, his tail coiled tightly around one of the bear's legs. If he hadn't been clutching the bear, there's no doubt he would have reached out to give Valens a hug too.
Edge resisted the very not-manly urge to say "aw" as he watched the boys, side-glancing to notice Lamiah's counted off fingers. "Heh...he's a good kid, though." Across Reese's shoulder, Edge struck out a hand for Valens to shake.
"Congratulations, Young Man. That was a great job you just did there." Edge spoke to Val like an adult, but braced himself for the handshake. If he was that strong...there was no doubt this might sting a little.
