Tau was looking for his brother- he wanted to play. He had been so lazy this morning, sleeping beside his mother, enjoying the salty scent of the sea. He was a very lazy cub and didn’t want to play when his siblings went off to, no... he liked just napping all afternoon away, being quite content at his mother’s side.

But now he was awake, better late then never- right? He let a soft smile pass his tiny maw as he wiggled his way down the coastline, looking for any sighs of his siblings. He wanted to play now! Where on earth where they all?

Per usual Wacheza had found himself staring off into space, looking out as the sea as he contemplated both himself and those around him. This time he had accumulated a small crab as a watching companion.

Though it nipped at the cub's ever-twitching tail, Wacheza always gracefully moved it just out of reach at the last second, ensuring that he would not be harmed by the small animal. Though he did this, he did not look or even achknowledge the smaller being's existance until his thoughts were distracted by his brother.

He cocked his head to the side and called out when he saw Tau prowling the coatline and getting closer to him, "Tau!"

“Oy!”

He called back with a cocked grin, making his way to his brother rather quickly now. His dark eyes narrowed softly as he moved himself to his brother’s side and pushed himself against him roughly, as if trying to tip him over.

“What are you up to?”

He asked with a soft chuckle, padding around his brother once before noticing the crab.

“Wow!”

Tau squeaked with joy, forgetting that he had even asked a question now. He was so focused that that crab, it wasn’t even funny.

"It's only a crab." Wacheza told him, lolling his head to the side as he caught himself in order to stop from falling over, "Be careful Tau, it'll pinch your nose..." He said quietly and slowly as he he swayed lightly and then butted his brother back with his head.

The crab moved back and forth a few times and then tried for both Tau's nose and Wacheza's tail again. Wacheza moved his tail out of the way again, as though he had seen the whole thing coming.

"I was... thinking." Wacheza said, searching for the right word for that, "About... the ocean and us. It's different... than land... like it could all swallow us..."

“The ocean is really, really big. It could swallow us up!”

Tau stated, as if he knew it all.

“Momma says not to play too close to the water or we could fall in. We aren’t old enough to play by the big waters yet.”

He wanted to play it safe. Tau didn’t want to let the sea take him. His black eyes narrowed again as he smirked at the crab and took a bat at it playfully.

“Why are you thinking’ about that anyway?”

He questioned with puffed out chest, moving away from the crab as it took a pinch at his paw.

"Because... when you think about the ocean, it's like life, right?" Wacheza mentioned, sweeping the crab aside and catching it offguard as it fell on it's back.

"Think about the crab and the ocean. Like about the world..." He trailed off as though he himself had gotten a bit lost in thinking about it, "The ocean could be like the world. Imagine that you're the crab, in this giagantic ocean, do you matter at all? If I crushed this crab... or I ate it, would the world be different because I did it? I mean, his family might be upset... but with everything else going on in the ocean, would it really matter?"

He softly nudged the crab back over with his nose, "Will it be different if I don't?"

“Everything matters, even the smallest bit counts. Just because you are small, that doesn’t mean that your life isn’t worth anything and that you aren’t… can’t do anything.”

Tau stopped and gazed at his brother with cold eyes.

“This crab has a meaning, just like the sand and the seaweed. Without the sand the ocean wouldn’t have anywhere to rest, and without the seaweed the fish and the crabs wouldn’t have anything to eat… and without that where would we be? The world needs the crab, like we need the crab. If you killed it, it would make a difference… and it would change things.”

He didn’t want the crab to hear any of this; it was so depressing- so out of… kindness in a way Tau pushed the crab away from the two and sat down, facing his brother.

“Everything matters.”

"Does it...?" Wacheza looked thoughtful, "Or are we all just sitting here in the same heap as everyone else?" he shook his head, letting the crab scutte away, "They're just questions. I'm not answering them, I'm just thinking about them."

He watched the crab scuttle off and sighed, "I never said I knew all the answers. I don't think anyone can know that... but I think a lot. Maybe mom and dad think that I think too much. Big sister doesn't mind because I listen a lot. But I think a lot."

He shook his head again, still looking relaxed, "But it's all a wonder. How we all come together to make one big thing."

“I guess we are all connected in someway, wouldn’t you think?”

Tau questioned himself, cocking his head to the side for a moment. He didn’t really know himself... but the thought made his tail curl. Life was going to be hard to understand, he could see it now.

“Kinda like how we are connected, you know?”

His eyes gazed back as he took too a look at the crab as it wiggled off. Even though it was a small life… it was still a life to him and all life mattered, didn’t it?

"Yeah... I think..." Wacheza laughed a little, "I think a lot. I wonder if I do it too much..." he shook his head gracefully, smiling in his I-know-something-you-don't way, "But we're all connected. The little crab to his family. That family for another family. And then all the little crabs in the ocean, all doing one job to make the world turn."

He looked out at the shoreline, "It's all so big. The world. The ocean. I wonder what our little part to play in this whole thing. I hope that it's important. I think we're important... for a lot. Maybe more than this. I don't know. I'm not a seer."

He stared off again, "I kind of miss the crab now that we let him go."

Tau gave his brother a kind smile before wiggling himself to sit beside him. His dark eyes glittered as he spoke.

“Well, to me you are important! You are my best brother! So hah! No one can beat that.”

After speaking he took a bat at his face and rolled onto his side so that he could kick at Wacheza playfully, smirking with a cocked head.

“HAH! The crab did get away, too bad, we can find something else to do I am sure. It’s a big place, this place.”

He was so coy sometimes, acting like he knew it all and then some.

“You think momma will be mad if we play in the water?”

"Probably...but should we do it anyway?" Wacheza asked, beaming since Tau thought that he was the best brother, "You're my best brother too Tau." Though knowing Wacheza he hadn't thought that through as carefully as he should have. Usually he did, but at times Wacheza's siblings made him think too quickly for him to be comfortable with.

"If we don't go in too deep we probably won't drown." Wacheza decided, stepping in ankle-deep to the ocean, "We shouldn't go in past our necks I don't think... because then tide might get us. And if the tide gets us, then we won't matter much anymore at all. You knowing... you can't accomplish much when you're... well, you know." He smiled a bit and jumped around, splashing Tau and smiling happily when he did. "It's a bit cold, but it's not too bad..."

“I don’t know.”

Tau said as he gazed at his brother with wide eyes, a bit fearful of the waters.

“I don’t want to upset mother…”

He was a good boy, most of the time and didn’t want anyone to be upset with him… but he wanted to play too. Man, thinking hurt.

“Maybe... just for a little bit we can play.”

As he spoke he jumped at his brother and wiggled into the salty waters to play. He gasped for air once as he let his head go under for a moment, as if to test himself. He jumped back up and took in air before speaking.

“Haha! This is fun!”

"Don't go in too deep!" Wacheza said quickly, worry on his usually calm face for a moment, "If you sink, I don't know how to get you back out..." He slid in a little deeper though, moving behind his brother as though he might swim all the way out.

Then he just smiled and dunked his own head, and came up shaking off little droplets onto his brother, laughing, the small crab on his head, "Look! I found him again." He smiled, then the crab grabbed onto his ear, making Wacheza jump and look a little scattered, "Um... Um... Um... Tau, this hurts! Ow!" He shook his head furiously, trying to get the crab off.

"Why is he grabbing me!? Ow!" Wacheza whimpered, ducking his head under again to try and get it off.

“Hey wait- wait don’t do that!”

Tau squeaked with a soft frown. He didn’t want anything to happen to his brother, so out of worry he wiggled himself under too and took a hold of the crabs back, pulling it as his brothers head popped out of the water.

He was trying to pull it off without harming Wacheza, but the crab had a good grip on him! With a soft tug he pulled himself back some as small waves hit his body and with a soft mew frowned at the crab and it’s grip on his brother’s ear.

This wasn’t how things were suppose to go!
