I'm always prowling Half-Price Books (I really only go into Barnes and Noble if need be) for good books on Wicca, and I was wondering if any of you have opinions on which authors you find most helpful. (So far my favorites are Scott Cunningham and Ellen Dugan).

I don't really look at Authors I look for content. I have only one Scott Cunningham book, and I find it very informative.

Lilah-Clover I don't really look at Authors I look for content. I have only one Scott Cunningham book, and I find it very informative. I tend to look more for content as well, but I do take into consideration the author. There are authors that are generally well-reputed for certain things and ones who are not well-reputed in other things. I often like to hit things written via academia on modern Paganism for certain as they can often paint more complete pictures of what's going on. One of my favorites is by Joyce & River Higginbotham; in general they're fantastic authors who put more meat on to the bones than many authors. Penczak does the same, though there are some things content-wise in his Witchcraft series I don't care for. I adore Starhawk's "Earth Path" book... one of the few I baught on the spot without reading the entire thing, the first chapter was that darned good.

I heard Silver Ravenwolf helps out the fluff bunnies. ;]
By that, of course, that her writing fills peoples' heads with false information. I've yet to read her books, but I'm hoping to soon. I wanna see if her writing is worth anything.
Cunningham is always a good way to go. Same with Buckland.

I've read tidbits of Silver Ravenwolf, and I don't care for it at all. If you're going to direct your books towards teens, make sure your information is factual and unbiased.

hahaha, Silver Ravenwolf is ok if you already have a strong base because she does have some good referense information, but most people who start out reading her books start out fluffs (not saying they can't change, but they definately start out so).

My personal collection its mostly referance. Cunningham, Buckland, and Conway fill my shelf, but there are a couple of books I can sugjest.
The Heart of Wicca - ISBN 1578631742 21 Lessons of Merlin - ISBN 0875424961
for a little eastern flaver that is some what related, I sugjest The Way of Action by Humphreys
If your taists are broader then just pagan beliefs, read any of the holy texts of the other major religions: the Koran, a good study bible, Dammapada, Baga Vadgita (sp?)... they my not be pagen but they do have odd similarites to old world pagenisum.
and if you can find it: The Book of The Pheryllt
hope that helps mrgreen

Personally I think some of the stuff DJ Conway does is FAR worse than anything Ravenwolf has published. xd

Conan The Barbie Doll (In my opinion)
Best- Scott Cunningham, Ray Buckland Worst- Silver Ravenwolf, Margaret Murray I totally agree. Seeing as how Murray has already been discredited, and Ravenwolf is well on her way.

Julien_Isfange never heard of murey, what has she done? Much of her work is extremely flawed, and is unsupportable. Most of her books are meant for anthropologists, but it still ties in loosely with occult studies. That's what I've gathered thus far. I'm still reading into it.
