"What a wonderful day!" DS exclaimed, stretching underneath the giant maple she had chosen. The picnic blanket had already been spread out, and there was not one, but three wicker baskets, overflowing with food and utensils, waiting in the shade of the tree. Most of her children were coming later, with dessert and yet another basket of food, but DS had wanted to get there earlier than necessary to make sure everything was set up in advance. Both her family and the guests were due to arrive anytime.
Taking a seat under the tree, DS leaned her head against the rough bark. Who would be the first to arrive, she wondered? Either way, it was sure to be a lovely picnic.

Ballentine sighed as she carried a rather large box up the hill. Surely one of her older kids could have carried it had they joined the family outing. Though each one gave some sort of excuse not to come, save Waya. Instead she was stuck with the box, such was a mothers fate. Casually she strolled towards the familiar form of DS, flashing a rather large smile. "Finally, Spring! The weather is perfect for this picnic. Don't you think?"
The box was promptly dropped down once she was near the other, giving a small huff. Inside were various toys and games for the kids to play with. Anything to keep the attention off the parents. They needed to have fun and relax too!
"Still waiting on yours I see? Only a few of mine managed to make it. They'll be- Oh! Their on their way up now." And the woman gave a sweeping motion with her arm. Coming up over the hill was a small gaggle of the DeMarselle clan. First was Belinda, the eden with lots of sponk. Second was the wonder twins, Kito and Shakina. Third her lovely frost grand child, Shayla. Then last but not least, Waya bringing up the rear. Each came to join the two adults.
Belinda though was quick to dive in the box, wanting something to do already. The twins enjoying a game of tag, though they were usually off in their own little world. Waya removed a book from inside the box, finding another tree to sit below and ignore the group. Shayla though, was the bold one. She strolled along over to DS and flashed a smile.
"HI! My daddy say Granma takes me someplace to make new friends. So.. You my new friend lady?" She asked, cocking her head to the side. Really, she could be to cute for words sometimes.

DS smiled and waved to Ballentine as she came into sight. "You made it! It's beautiful, isn't it?"
The stampede of kids made her laugh, even though she knew that it was a fairly small sampling from the DeMarselle household. But that was alright, as a few of her own kids had other obligations that day. They would be well matched, she thought, when the others arrived.
"Mine should be along in a moment," she called to Ballie. "In the meantime... hi sweetie!" Shayla was just precious! "I'll be your friend if you like. What's your name?"

A nod was given in agreement as Ballentine approached her friend. "That it is, perfect day if I may say so! But.. ugh... was hell trying to get here! I'll share that later though." The woman stated as Shayla began to introduce herself.
The child of ice beamed happily when the new woman began to speak to her. Plopping down all but in DS's lap, Shayla grinned up at her. "My name is Shayla! Dat's my Granma! Daddie said he no could come 'cause ... uh..." Scratching at her head in thought, the child tried to recall why her daddy wasn't there.
Seeing her fumble with the words, Ballentine couldn't help but chuckle. "Jason had a date today. He never gets out of the house so I refused to let him break it." Of course she made a gesture with her hands that Shayla was way to younge to understand, either way the blue jay was getting busy tonight.

"I'm sorry it was so tough," DS said sympathetically. "But with any luck, it will be worth it." She sighed, then turned to the child in her lap. She was so bubbly that DS just had to laugh. "Is that so? Well, I'm glad you could spend time with your Granma today then, Shayla-chan."
Before she could ask Ballie for details on this "date" she mentioned, her eyes lit up. "Oh! There come my troops now!"
Eriol was the first to come over the hill, panting slightly from exertion. The spot they had chosen for the picnic was a ways from the house- not far enough to take the bus, but too far to make it a leisurely stroll. That, combined with his sun sensitivity, made it a bit annoying. More so when taking into account what he was carrying- a basket full of food in one hand, a girl in the other.
Head resting lightly on Eriol's shoulder, Viviana was sleepy, but aware of what was going on around her. She knew that she was going somewhere, and that the somewhere was bright and outside. Other than that, she wasn't quite sure.
Hovering a couple feet behind her, a small whale encased in a bubble of water sped forward, brushing the girl's hand lightly. Someplace with lots of trees. And lots of food. And lots of people. Great.
People sounded fun, Viviana decided. Of course, providing Outcry decided to play nice. Which he rarely did. Still, there was food and trees, which were fun too.
A greenish shadow darted forward, nearly running into Eriol's legs. Xue managed to stop just in time, but nearly dropped the plate of cookies he was carrying. He seemed to have no lack of energy, regaining his balance quickly and running straight for the picnic blanket, stopping only when he reached the very edge.
Des Xue brought cookies and peoples and who is little girl will she be Xue's friend? biggrin
"Xue, wait up!" Karan stopped under a tree to catch his breath, then started walking again, slowly. The canvas bag he carried dragged on the ground, but if he noticed, he didn't seem to care. He really didn't want to be left alone, not with a bunch of unfamiliar people around. He knew Waya would be there, and he wasn't sure how he felt about that. Or about the other kids. It would be better to have some support either way.
A few more steps found Prana under the same tree, where she put down her basket, flexed her hands, and picked it up again. "Are you okay?" she asked Karan quietly, catching up in a few strides. When he nodded, she took one hand off her basket and placed it gently on his arm. "We're almost there. It's okay."
"It's about time!" DS exclaimed, waving the children over. "Ballie, have you met everyone? I'm sure you know Eriol... this is Viviana, and Outcry. That's Xue, and you probably remember Karan and Prana." The introductions went fairly quickly, much to her surprise. "The girls had a class today that they didn't want to miss. And Bob's spending time with her... mother. So this is all of us today!"
