Dusk, along the Border East and Streets.

Dusk was settling, and the untainted Carren scampered along the edge of buildings, her legs sore and her feet dirty and bare. It hadn't been but an hour or so ago she was a monster, but she managed to randomly change back. She was aiming for home, but she knew she had still an hour or two to go.

Ever since she became a player, things had been a little more erratic for the changling. Precisely that she kept randomly changing, she assumed it to be related to worrying too damn much.

But in the back of her mind, Crow knew there was a good reason to be worrying this eve in late spring. Disregarding the thought for a moment, she pulled her jacket closer to her, and continued dashing from shadow to shadow.

Oooh, Writ's in trouble.

The kid was supposed to be at home an hour ago. His parents may have let him wander everywhere, but that didn't stop them from enforcing a curfew for him.

Well, it's not his fault, he just got lost. Really lost. Like, he has no idea where he is kind of lost. So, just like him, he walked around some more, he'd get to his house eventually, but he was going to take his sweet time, there were so many things to see. Besides, he had homework and he really didn't feel like doing it.

If Coyote had any tangible form, he'd be rolling his eyes right now. A kid lost in the city he lived in, what irony.

Someone sped by Writ's eye, another person! Anyone around here must know this place better than he did. Only made sense to ask them. The unusual presence in his head was pushing him to call after them too. Alright then. He called out to their back,

"Hey!!!"

"Hey!!!" a voice called out.

Carren froze, and her eyes searched what she could without moving her head. She felt her back twinge with pain slightly, the familiar pain she had lived with for two years now.

Clomp, clomp, clomp... Crow scanned the darkness, searching for the other who called out. The voice circled through her mind, it did sound a bit young... But that didn't mean she should respond just yet.

Writ frowned, they were running from him, whoever it was, they weren't very accommodating. All he wanted were directions back to Middling.

"Wait up!" He said, chasing after the mystery person.

He began to run after them, his footsteps echoing through the dark. It was suddenly followed by a surprised yelp, a CRASH, a BANG, and then a myriad of other accident related noises that onomatopoeia can't describe.

The dark was not kind to Writ's eyes, he had crashed into a bunch of garbage cans that were left carelessly out in the street.

"Ugh...." The Godling groaned, trying to get himself back up again.

Crow flinched and raced around a corner at the sudden crashes of the trashcans she had easily avoided. Whoever it was, they certainly were clumsy. She glanced around the buildings and road, checking for any others, and then dashed back around the corner and back into the shadows.

"You're following me, why?" She queried sharply, just loud enough for the child to be heard.

"I just wanted to know how to get back to Middling!" Writ said back just as loud.

Writ grunted a few times while he tried to pry his leg underneath the piles of garbage. It was tough, but he eventually got out of it, it felt funny though, he hoped he didn't break it or anything.

"Ah cripes." He muttered.

He looked around for the source of the voice, his ears wiggling this way and that. The day was waning, and soon there wouldn't be enough light to see.

"Where are you?"

"I know the way to Middling." Crow replied with a cooled tone in her voice. "How bad do you need a guide there? I could just tell you..."

Crow remained in the shadows, her eyes locked onto his face, especially to those wiggly ears.

Maybe she had found another player?

This was taking too long. Coyote's curiousity was as much as Writ's, except that he was two steps ahead of his little host.

A sharp pain went through Writ's leg, and he sucked in. Uh oh. He tried lifting his leg, but it hurt. Did he break something?

Well, no. Just a little twinge from Coyote.

Sure didn't feel like it though. The kid squeezed his leg, trying to null the pain.

"I... Think my leg's broken."

Crow scrunched up her nose, the idiot went and broke his leg. How did he do that? Honestly? Nevertheless, he couldn't run at least and maybe he could be interesting, she hadn't had a chance to meet the other players up until now. Those ears certainly screamed 'I'm speshuals'. Yes, strange pronunciation and all.

She picked up her right hoof, and shivered slightly. She had only been seen a few times by outsiders of the Streets or Borders in her monstrous form. She closed her eyes, slammed a hoof down, and briskly walked out of the shadows and over to him. She bent down, her large hooves keeping her balanced easily, her wings arching over her back and cast a shadow upon his face, and her tail curled inward slightly.

"I can't carry you, but I can help you there."

Coyote was giggling silently in Writ's head. Works every time. Only takes a moment of suffering to get everyone running.

Writ looked to the sound of clopping, did the girl have clogs or something? He had heard that sound when he was chasing after her too. Did they even make wooden shoes anymore? If so, why did she have a pair? When the girl appeared closer, Writ tilted his head with an expression of confusion and fascination. Were those... Wings?

"Whoa..." His mouth stayed open.

She glanced down at his leg, and back up at him. She didn't seem affected by his astonishment in the least. Her wings gave a hard and quick flap, just to see his reaction.

Writ's mouth just stayed open. A little wider, but still. Something struck his mind, that crazy lady told her about other kids about being "Special" and all. Ohhhh...

Of course, he was busy with what was at hand.

"Can you fly?!" Was the first words that came out of his mouth.

"They're too small." Crow replied flatly. That wasn't the reaction she was looking for, but then again the kid wasn't screaming like a banshee. Her mind suddenly reminded her of the fact he had said he broke his leg.

"Now are you hurt or not?" she queried, offering a hand.

And for fun, Coyote stopped the broken leg feeling.

"Umm..." Writ took the hand and stood up. His leg felt fine, good as new. If it weren't for the current situation, he'd do a dance or something just to test it out, like most people did when they think their legs are broken.

"I guess not." Writ shrugged and grinned.

She stood up, and sighed. "Gahd, and I came out of the shadows for this... Whatever. So, Middlings, right?" She shifted her weight to her other hoof. Crow was quite thankful he hadn't really noticed the tail or the legs yet.
