Chachili dragged herself home. She was tired, and not at all in the mood for chatter... in fact, she just wanted to go home and sleep.
She wasn't angry in any way, only exhausted. She'd been chased by a leopard today, and so she'd had a good and long run for her life - but now, she was alright, but dead tired. All she wanted to do was flop down and dive into slumber.

Mkimya lay in the thick grass close to home. She hadn't been out since that fateful night that is unexpectadly going to change her life for the better... or worse?
She didn't dwell on the though for too long. She raised her head and searched for her mother though the grass.
She honostly didn't feel like looking though. She closed ehr eyes for a second and looked at the sky.

It wasn't until Chachili spotted Mkimya, laying outside the den, that she realised that something was wrong. Something in Chachili wanted to pull herself back, just leave it be until the morning.
But another part of Chachili started worrying. This was her daughter... and, somehow, as she looked closer, Mkimya's stomach seemed slightly swollen. There was a moment of pain for a minute, a gut feeling that Chachili couldn't quite swallow... Mkimya's expression and position were all too familiar.
"Mkimya," she started, and clicked her hooves together to announce her prescense, "Mkimya is..."
Silence.
"Is something the matter?"

"Not that I recall..." Mkimya said tilting her head. Just was curious to why her mother asked. "Why do you ask?"

Chachili swallowed. This was not going to be good. Slowly, she sat upon her rump, and stared at her daughter. This time, she was firm, and her gaze was strong.
"You're keeping something from me," her voice was harsh, "What is it?"
Although she loved her daughter very much, she couldn't help but feel panic grip her. And so, she spoke coldly...

Mkimya gulped at her mother's words and shifted in nervousness. What could her mother possibly want to know. Maybe... the guy? probably not, but it didn't matter. He mother's words made her shiver slightly. "Umm..." She fidgeted a bit pondering what to say and how to say it.

Chachili saw Mkimya shiver. She saw the girl shuffle uncomfortably. And then, she calmed down. Mkimya was an adult already, no matter how she thought of it. Even if she was her little daughter, she'd grown up.
"Mkimya..." Chachili lay her eyes on her daughter's swelling stomach, "You met someone, didn't you?"
Her voice was softer now, but it was still dangerous, as if she could break in a yell at any minute. However, she held herself back... scolding Mkimya wouldn't do anything but break the two apart, and she didn't want that to happen.
"You met someone."
And her eyes softened. She walked up to her daughter, and brushed lovingly against her muzzle.
"Who was it, Mkimya?"

"I did..." Mkimya said to her mother almost shyly. "His name is Afriti..." she looked away from her mother. Sh ponderered now if she should have told her mother sooner.
She looked back up to the Sky remebering the Male's intense deep grey eyes. She shook off the thought and nuzzled her mother back slightly.

"Afriti..." Chachili shook her head, "Oh, no. My poor, poor girl..." with a sigh, she pressed her nose against Mkimya's, "I can't believe this is happening. Not to you..."
Everyone has to grow up, someday. She wasn't a fawn anymore.
But still, Chachili found it all hard to accept.
"Is he a rogue?" she asked, suddenly annoyed, "Will he come back? Well, by the gods, he better! Otherwise I'll have his neck for messing with my little girl, I will!"
She paused, and turned to her girl.
"You know what this means, don't you?"
Chachili hesitated, and pressed her nose to her daughter's stomach. She felt it - one, two... a slight kick, here and there. And it was warm. Much too swollen to be normal. "You're carrying a fawn, Mkimya."

Mkimya nodded. "He's a rouge..." she confirmed. She paused. "But... I don't know if he's coming back.
Mkimya's body shook slightly in a bit of nervousness. "A... fawn?" Her voice held joy. She didn't have regrets. The purple and grey klipspringer shook though, scared, not knowing if she'd see Afriti again... and not knowing what the fawn will think growing up.

Chachili saw red. At once, she felt anger... that scum, he'd taken her daughter and left her, just like Jani had done to her. The past was repeating itself, it seemed... and she opened her mouth to speak her mind. But then, something made her hold back.
"You stupid girl," she cried, turning her back on Mkimya, "How could you? After growing up without Jani, after growing up without a father. And trusting a rogue like this?! Did you even know what you were doing?"
And then, she lunged forward, holding her daughter.
"I'm so angry at you. But I'm so happy for you. A fawn, a fawn! Congratulations, congratulations. You've certainly grown up."
And she nuzzled Mkimya. She was proud. So very proud.

Mkimya's ears flicked back at her mothers words, but she wasn't quite ashamed.
As her mother held her though, Mkimya smiled. Her mother was happy and it made Mkimya beam with pride.
Mkimya couldn't even think over anything to say. Pride swelled in her chest and she had a smile on her face.

Chachili then drew back. She smiled, nudging her daughter's shoulder slightly and playfully with her muzzle.
She did not know what to say, either. For a few moments, both klipspringers seemed to be lost for words, until Chachili finally choked:
"I wonder when you're due, Mkimya?"
Embarrassing topic, but Chachili wanted to know these things. Was her daughter's stomach hurting? Was anything abnormal happening that would indicate her giving birth soon?
She wanted to be ready, to be near her daughter when the little one arrived.

"I don't know..." Mkimya stated. She was anxious to know when the fawn was due herself. Mkimya smiled at her mother. "Maybe soon, I hope..." She said with excietment. She wanted this fawn. her. And his... But she didn't hate his, or dislike him for the blessing he graced her with.

Chachili nodded.
The realisation of what all of this meant hit her smack bang in the face, really... soon, her daughter would present her a grandchild. Did that mean she was ageing?
Chachili gave her daughter a sly smile.
"Oh, gawd," she lifted a hoof to cover her face, "That means that soon I'll have a new name around her. What's it to be? Granny? Gran? Nan? Nanny? Mum-ma?"
She couldn't help but grin, though, grin from ear to ear.
"I shouldn't be... but... I'm proud. So proud."
Chachili was a Grandparent.
