Here's a thread where we can discuss family Viverridae, one of the more obscure groups of carnivores.
Some notable species include:

The African Civet
Civettictis civetta

Owston's Palm Civet

Small Spotted Genet
Genetta genetta

[Also, notice the rather massive looking spider next to his tail>.<]

Plus many other similarly stunning critters.
They are typically shy and elusive and whilst classed in order Carnivora, many species are not adverse to supplementing their diet with fruits and berries. They are also typically strong smelling and some species are raised for their musk, which is used in perfume.
The endangered and vulnerable members of the Viverridae family are usually so due to habitat loss.
A few, such as the Small spotted genet, have been succesfully kept as pets.

Please feel free to add more information [I tried to keep it short and sweet for the first post] and pictures^^.

I thought that first one was a hyena when I first saw it.

Honestly, the African civet's most familiar to me, but I think that's only because I came across the species name while poring over some webpages on African fauna. The others I've never seen before; not even in a zoo (not as far as I can remember anyway). Well, that's one species I wasn't previously familiar with.

I've personally only heard of the Small Spotted Genet, and the Owston's Palm Civet, but in fague terms. I've seen picutre when I was looking over some books in the library when I had nothing else to do.

Thank you for posting some interesting. blaugh xd blaugh They're so CUTE!! 4laugh I almost wish I had one to keep, but as always that wouldnt be in the best interest of the animal.
