Kittyintheraiyn Racing along past the grape soda river on her way to the field of marshmallow flowers that her mommydaddy had shown her just the other day. Fiara wasn't hungry but she wanted to see if she could find a friend, someone besides her brothers to play with.Konalou "Kwehsss." With a last tug on the twine, Lore's one-puppy raft was complete! Previously, boredom had consumed the little golden numa until a brillant idea had floated into his head. He could build a raft, then ride the soda river's currents! And that was exactly what Lore had done. He knew that the water didn't flow very fast, so it was perfectly safe. A purr of sastifaction crawled into the air as Lore dragged his handywork to the river's edge. It had taken him all morning to build his raft, and he was excited to try it out. Kittyintheraiyn Ahead Fiara saw a bright yellow pup near the river's edge, Why go all the way to the field if theres someone here, she thought as she skidded to a halt. Trotting the last few yards Fiara wondered what the male was up to and so she called out to him.
"Hullo~ What are you doing there?" She tilted her head to the side looking at his contraption and then at him with intense curiosity. At present the flame on her paw was a tiny thing and she was in a cheerful mood.Konalou Lore lifted his head to see a starry blue pup with her paw on fire. He stared curiously back, before saying, "Kwehsss, I'm going to ride the river." He said it all through a purr, clearly pleased with himself. Looking again at the strange pup, he asked, "Why are you on fire?" After a moment of hesitation, he added, "I'm Lore, kwehss."
Lore was thrilled at meeting another numa, and a pup at that, but, he slightly ticked at having his thrill ride delayed. Looking down at his raft, he twitched impaitently. Kittyintheraiyn "Oooh, that sounds like fun~" She stepped closer to the raft and commented looking it over. "It doesn't look very big, you sure it's gonna hold you?"
Fiara lifted her paw to look at it, almost like she wasn't sure but then she answered simply. "Cause my mommydaddy lit it." She waggled her fingers and the tiny flame flickered. "It doesn't burn me though it's a part of me. I'm Fiara." Her whispy wings fluttered in the light breeze.Konalou Lore nodded skeptically. "I suppose that's true, I mean, you'd have a major burn." He nodded proudly. "Of course. I only used the strongest logs, and I spent all morning at it too, kwehsss." He sighed, then turned to Fiara. "I suppose you want to come? It's not big enough now, but I'm sure it wouldn't take too long to enlarge it, if we work together." Kittyintheraiyn Fiara backed up from Lore just a few steps eyes wide and ears back, "Umm I don't know how to swim, I'm not afraid see, just I haven't ever been in more than a few inches before, daddydaddy says the river is really deep some places." She shook her head, "Girlies aren't swimmers. I can run along the river with you, I bet I could keep with you and this thing."
Recovering she stepped back to where she had been and sat, "I can help you make it bigger though, if you want." She still eyed the raft suspiciously.Konalou Lore cocked his head, confused. "Why can't girls swim? I'm sure they can. Maybe they just aren't as good.....but if you fall in, I'll save you!" Lore said the last part with a puff of pride, although he truely meant it. It wasn't that Lore had amazing swimming skills, but the water was always his second home, and he loved swimming with all his heart. "Besides," he added, "The deep end is behind us." Kittyintheraiyn "I didn't say that we can't swim," she corrected him but then she added with a sigh, "maybe I am a bit scared." She looked at the lazy river beside them, it seemed harmless enough from the banks.
The confidence in his voice had helped to reassure her and also his promise, "You're sweet, like my daddies. Okay, how do we make it bigger?" Fiara thought to herself that she would help him make it bigger and that could be fun in itself, if she didn't feel safe when it was done then she didn't have to go.Konalou "There was a fallen tree behind us. I took its biggest branches. There's some left, so we could bind it to the raft with my leftover twine." With an eager lunge, Lore set off behind him toward the tree he had mentioned. Kittyintheraiyn Following closely after Lore, Fiara spotted the dead tree easily. It seemed to have some good sized branches left but snapping them off might be hard, climbing up on the trunk she pushed her full weight against one of the smaller ones and cheered with a 'yip' when it was swiftly snapped. "How many do you think we'll need Lore?"Konalou "Kwehsss, I suppose we'll need at least ten." Quickly, Lore followed suit and shoved himself against a branch a similar size. A purr escaped from his throat as he moved on to another. As Lore continued snapping branches, an interesting thought enter his mind. "Hey Fiara," he called, "How do you think this tree fell? I me, look at its size, kwehsss!" Kittyintheraiyn Fiara had her weight against a largeish branch and was about to back up and try more force when Lore posed the question of the tree's demise. She considered after two steps back and took a third before looking up and down the full length. Then rushing the branch it bent and snapped! "A storm maybe? Lots of blowy wind knocked it over, the windy has power you know." She nodded before picking herself up from the ground and climbing to the trunk again.
Konalou "Maybe, kwehsss, but why did only the biggest tree fall?" It was true. There were no other fallen trees around the two puppys. Lore launched himself against a larger branch, and to his pleasure, and surprise, it snapped. He tumbled after it, landing lightly on his side. He picked himself up, steadying the spinning world. He looked at the pile of branches they had gathered, and called happily, "We've got enough! Now we just need to strip the branches of the little branches." Kittyintheraiyn "Well since it is the biggest tree, then it's probably the oldest one too, it got to old and it got weak," Here Fiara mimed falling over sideways by falling herself from the tree trunk, "and" she let the sentence hang, she knew when things got very old or sick they sometimes died and unlike her Uncle Jedrek they didn't get back up again. It wasn't funny, but she made light of it anyhow.
Bringing her last branch to the pile that they had made she settled her paws on the wood and used her teeth to strip away the smaller twigs as Lore instructed. "Tees rive rong time." Fiara spoke with twigs in her mouth as she tugged them free, she spat out the bitter wood and pushed the branch away and started on another, "They're really good when they're growing and still useful after they're not anymore, you couldn't build things with live tree right?" Fiara was quite the talker something she had inherited from her fiery father, especially if something made her sad, she'd talk up a storm to not think about it to hard.

Lore shrugged, spitting out a mouthful of leaves before answering, "I suppose so, I mean, I guess it does make sense." Grinning, he laughed, "But it's a good thing it did fall. We wouldn't be able to have our fun otherwise, kwehsss." He shrugged again, although this time in a more lighthearted sense. Spitting out a final mouthful of leaves, a dry, acid taste on the tip of his tongue, Lore passed a length of twin to Fiara. "Kwehsss, now we just need to bind all of these branches together, then attach it to the other half."

Nodding to Lore, Fiara accepted the twine and held it in her mouth while she lined up some of the branches, she watched the way the Lore bound the wood together before attempting to give it a try. If she was going to be riding on this thing she didn't want it falling apart because she'd somehow done something wrong in the construction.
Winding her length tightly she held the twine down with her fingers and attempted to knot it, but once she released the binding it came undone and she flushed darker under her dark fur, "My knots slipped out Lore," she admitted at once, "how did you do it?" She tightened the cording again and held it poised for instruction.

Lore finished his own knots, then padded over next to Fiara. "Don't worry, kwehsss," He encouraged, "It took me nearly an hour to figure out how to make a decent knot." He took her paws in his own and started guiding her in making a knot. He looped her twine around the log, showing her how to hold it down with her thumb so she could use her other fingers and her free paw to knot the vine. "Like this, kwehsss, using your claws," the golden, speckled pup instructed.

It was much easier to learn when shown something first hand, Fiara thought while finishing off the knots under Lore's care.
"Okay Lore, now that that part is done, is there more to do?" She was still nervous about riding the raft thing but becoming more relaxed because Lore seem to really know what he was doing, it can't be that bad, she thought, and I can always decline riding if it feels unsafe.

Lore's eyes glistened in excitement as we chirped happily, "Kwehss, now we just haul this section back and attach it to the other half." Lore was even happier now that his newfound friend seemed to be relaxing as well. He was going to prove to Fiara that the river was a safe place for all kidns of fun mischief.
A purr escaped from Lore's throat as he instructed Fiara to push the logs while he pulled. He looped the remaining twine loosely on his arm. Only a little more until they could start!

Fiara, with a smile lit upon her face set her front paws against the raft and with Lore to her left they puuuushed. The raft was heavy but proved not impossible for the pair to move as it began to slide along the ground making shallow furrows in the soft earth.
The river and the other half of Lore's raft was some distance away and while pushing this part Fiara was not paying much attention to her flame, it had never burned or hurt her, nor her brothers nor her fathers but she was about to learn that somethings were more flammable than other things. The dry wood under her right paw had begun to smoke and the fire suddenly grew across her paw, the log had grown hot under her hand but she had not noticed it until it combusted with a bright flash.
With a yelp of surprise Fiara stumbled and seeing that she had inadvertently caught the raft on fire was worried that Lore would be mad. "Oh no~" she called out and her next reaction was to smother the fire; first she tried with her right paw, covering the small flaming section with her paw but to no avail. The tiny fire leapt around her hand growing ever so slightly.
"Smother it! Throw water or dirt on it!" Holding her right paw as far from Lore and the raft as she could, Fiara scraped at the ground gathering soil into a pile.

Concern for his friend erupted inside Lore and he completely forgot that the flame on Fiara's paw was natural, and that she wasn't going to be burned. Quickly, he dropped the raft and tackled Fiara to the ground, burying her paw in the loose earth. "Are you okay, kwehsss?!?" He panted and he lunged back to the raft. It was nearly completely in flames now, and Lore was forced to leap back with a yelp as a stray blaze licked his paw.
As a train of thought floated into Lore's head, he dashed quickly to the river, which was only a few yards away. Cannonballing in with a huge splash, Lore began kicking around frantically, trying to direct the little waves he created to pour onto the burning pile of logs.
Seeing that his little splashes weren't even making a dent in the fire, now starting to curl hungrily above the fresh, crispy grass. Panic began freezing Lore's frantic thoughts as he wondered despairingly what he could do. His splashings became more urgent, until finally, the flames slowly started dying down...

"Eehh?" Before she knew it Fiara found herself being smothered by Lore, the flame on her paw put out by fear and dirt, "I'm okay, but the raft..." Tears formed in her silver sheen eyes not from pain but shock as she watched the wood go up in flames. Before she could react Lore was in the river trying in vain to slash enough soda to douse the fire and she turned and began kicking dirt onto the raft that they had built together.
With the soda and the dirt the flames were slowly dampened and what was left was a blackened and muddy mess, "Lore, I-I'm so sorry, I didn't mean for that to happen. I ruined it." She let out a little sob as tears rolled down her cheeks she was sure he was going to be mad at her and she hid her face from him sniffing and sputtering another apology.

Lore rushed over to Fiara, more than a little confused. She said she was alright, so why was she crying? Kwehsss, what was going on? Awkwardly, he crawled over to the starry blue pup, and petted her back, unsure of what he was supposed to do. "Kwehsss, what are you talking about? You're okay, you're not burned. You don't have to cry."
Exhausted weathered his limbs as he desperately tried to calm Fiara down. How clueless the poor golden boy was! Then again, Lore wasn't thinking straight either. He was too tired to realize that Fiara was upset because she believed that she ruined the raft. Even if he had realized that, Lore was too happy that both of then were safe and unharmed.

Little Fiara lifted her head and sniffled, "You-you're not mad? All our hard work is ruined cause of me." Her tears passed as quickly as they came and she was comforted, though still saddened by the loss.
Brushing her tears away with dirty paws caused Fiara's face to become a muddy mess, she sniffled again and looked between the ruined raft and the young male as she got to her feet.

It took him a moment, but the reason of Fiara's tears finally clicked in Lore's mind. Sighing, he awkwardly hugged her, and then said with the firmest tone he could manage, "Kwehsss, you're just acting stupid now! The fire wasn't your fault! I didn't ask to be born with a flower pernamently attached behind my ear, and you didn't kwehsss ask for that flame!" He huffed slightly, then took and breath and hugged Fiara again. Dropping his voice to a more acceptable tone, he added, "Besides, the raft is a small price for out lives. We couldn't burned to death. Kwehsss, the whole forest could have burned to death!" He winked, grinning, "If you ask me, this turned out rather well."
It wasn't in Lore's nature to realize how true his words were. Despite saying it, he never thought about the danger. Even now, after the whole turmoil of events, he didn't realize that he COULD have died, that there COULD have been a major forest fire. Lore was too carefree and ignorant for that,

A mess of tears and dirt, Fiara sat and accepted the hugs, she wasn't sure what to say and so she attempted a compliment, to be nice, "I kinda like your flower." She didn't quite understand how a flower would be permanently stuck to his head, then it dawned on her that it must be a family trait. She giggled to herself thinking that the Swan had an interesting job, picking out traits to pass, along with painting the babies. She looked up at the sky and noticed that a lot more time had passed than she thought. With a pout, she figured that there wouldn't be enough day left to build another raft and then attach it to the one that Lore had made previously and take a trip down river, which she was still not looking forward to, before her father came looking for her. "I'm glad you're not mad at me, but I'm still sorry all that time and hard work were for nothing in the end."

(( So sorry for the wait.... ))
Lore giggled- he couldn't help it! He was normally teased for his flower. "Thanks, kwehs..." he sputtered in between laughs. "And no worries, we can always make another raft. Tehehe, kweh, and it wasn't for nothing, not really. We had fun doing it, didn't we? What is it that they say. Kwehss? It's not about the destination but the journey? Something like that?" he offered, still trying cheer his friend up.
Feeling the first chill wind of the evening blanket his damp fur, Lore stood up. "Kwehsss, it's getting late...We'd better get going...."

"Yea," She attempted a smile, "You're pretty smart Lore." She stood and brushed herself off as best she could though she was still a little muddy though she wouldn't dream of washing in the river, she'd wash at home.
Fiara turned her face towards home and then back again to Lore, "Okay. I did have fun building the raft with you, Lore."
