Our grand prize winner, LovePollution, will recieve a wizards wand and have her poem featured in the roleplay. First prize winner, SporkNotes gets a witch hat for winning the popular vote. Kakashichan, Masaku and Papi will recieve magicians wands for participating. Thank you everyone! So our very own Suites Harry Potter RP is holding the first (hopefully annual) Sorting Hat Poetry Contest! What we need you to do is to create a song for the Sorting Hat to sing before the first year students are sorted. The poem should contain information about the characteristics of each house, as well as tell a little story about the hat's creation.

More information concerning how the songs are formatted as well as examples can be found here. Wood, Comfy, and I decided that we are going to have the poll* determine who wins the prize** for most popular poem which is a different prize than the Wizard's Wand. So, if you win the popular vote, this does not automatically mean that you get the Wizard's Wand; it might be a completely different prize!
*The poem that we will be using in the RP will be determined by Wood, Comfy, and I and the writer of that poem will win the Wizard's Wand!
** If the popular vote ends up being the same as what we chose as the winner of the contest, the second most popular poem will get the prize!

The prize will be a Wizard's Wand:
Worth 8.5k!! The contest will run for a week, but please get your submissions in as soon as possible, as we are holding up our RP for this. Every Suites member is welcome to join, so don't be shy! We know there are a ton of really great poets out there, so show us your skills! There's some serious wandage to be won! xD We'd like to continue to be able to hold events for everyone, and to do so we need funds for prizes.
If you'd like to donate to the cause, just send a trade to I am Ruxis Maphel [tradelink]. Also, please PM me or post any event ideas in the OOC thread in the main forumn, here.To enter: send a PM titled "Sorting Hat Contest" either ieatwood, comfortably_dumb, or H e a r t s with your submission.

Poems of the Contestants:
1) MAKASU
Once every twelve moons
Comes the time for me to sort
You young’ns stand there
Wondering which house you’ll call home
Fear not and try me on!
Trust that I’ll put you where you belong
Will you be in Gryffindor?
The red and the gold
The brave and the courageous
If you are truly bold
You’ll be quite happy
Or perhaps in Hufflepuff?
The yellow and black
The loyal and the just
If you work hard enough
You’ll fit in fine
How about in Ravenclaw?
The blue and the bronze
The wise and the bright
If your wit is sharp
You’ll be right at home
Might you be in Slytherin?
The green and the silver
The sly and the cunning
If you’re full of ambition
You’ll be most content
Enough hesitation!
Swallow your fear and step forward!
A new year at Hogwarts has started
Let the sorting begin!
2) LOVEPOLLUTION
My dear friends please gather around
Listen to the sorting hat’s new sound
Of worn leather I am made
But don’t let this fool you, your faith should not fade
For I shall sort you all by song
Into the houses for which you belong
Little first years do not be afraid
Let’s sort you into the houses for which you were made
First we start with Hufflepuff, with students so kind
Of these boys and girls no other you will find
To suit the needs of being trustworthy and true
And loyal to those who put their faith in you
Next is good old Gryffindor who are so very brave
When put under pressure Gryffindors wont fade
They’re honesty and integrity is to be admired
Unique is the way their brains are wired
Then we come to Slytherin where the cunning go
Mercy and pity are traits they don’t show
They’ll stop at nothing till the top they’ve reached
When trust and honour they have breached
Next is sharp minded Ravenclaw whose students are so smart
Their quick wit and high grades set them apart
Puzzles they find easy and riddles a piece of cake
They find it very hard to make the smallest mistake
This is where we finish as this is the end of my song
So put me on your head, it really won’t take long
Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin or Gryffindor
Now let us see, I won’t keep you waiting any more
3) PAPI
Now this is a story all about how
The making of this school all went down
So take a minute, nibble some treacle tarts
I'll tell you how I became the Sorting Hat of Hogwarts
On the West side of the castle, born and raised
On kids' heads is where I spent most of my early days
Chillin' out, rappin', I'm the Thinking Cap that's cool
I was dividin' up them brats throughout the school
I tried to drop hints, but the end was near
None of the Founders thought this was weird
If anything I could say all this was wrong
But I'll shut the hell up and finish my song!
Gryffindor liked the cats with a backbone
The ones that could rough it on their own
Slytherin thought purebloods were ideal
No Muggle blood, that s**t wasn't real
Ravenclaw was the witch with the brains
She didn't want idiots, they were a pain
And Hufflepuff wasn't picky at all,
"I like everyone, so screw you all!"
Then Gryffindor said, "Salazar, you're whack!
Get your a** out and don't come back!"
Him and Slytherin got into a fight, and Slythie got scared,
"I don't like these Mudbloods, it isn't fair!"
And this is how I came to be
Them bitches realized they really needed me
So this is my kingdom, I'm a work of art
'Cause I'm the Fresh Hat of Hogwarts
4) KAKASHICHAN
I can see your future
Very transparent and clear
A certain house will nuture
The time of decision is near
From the time of the origin
Of this school called Hogwarts
The tale of four would begin
To educate children of all sorts
Gryffindor house holds those
whom are known as valiant,
Gutsy and heroic are chose
A place in this house, I'll grant
Perhaps the Slytherin house
Would hold thee with steady hands
To crush that irritating mouse
Meddling with your plans
Unwavering, the Hufflepuff house true
To themselves as well as others
Will always be ready in times of blue
Loyal and patient, some like mothers
Ravenclaw would choose the best
Not doubting a single decision
To choose always the cleverest
Using their brains, even in derision
Which can you see
Within your heart, believing
Without a worrying plea
A house to reduce grieving,
pain, and suffering of the danger
soon to come to our school
Appearing suddenly, a stranger
And with a student will duel
For the fate of our institution
5)SPORKNOTES
“Yo fo shizzle ma nizzle”
One day Gryffindor Said
And planted an idea in Helga, Rowena
And Salazar’s Head
“We can do magic,
We are all so cool
Maybe we ought
To start a school!”
“Oh yes,” Rowena Ravenclaw had said
“A magical school indeed
The one for the brightest, the smartest
The ones that could read!”
“But oh,” said Helga Hufflepuff
“Not many children are as bright as you think
I want a school for children
With personalities that don’t stink!”
“That’s not right,” Salazar Slytherin shouted,
“Do you want Mudbloods in our school?
Purebloods only, that’s the way,
If you disagree, then you’re a fool!”
“But my peeps,” Godric Gyrffindor said,
“You should not be divided.
Magic is not for one, but all
And you cannot fight it.”
So together, they founded Hogwarts
And all enchanted me,
To tell you where you belong
Where you should be.
