Hienna was absolutely getting discouraged. She and Zaphiro had been looking for at LEAST two weeks and had yet to find the perfect spot to call a home and start their family. Over the last few weeks she had been getting tired easier as well - which was something she was incredibly sick of in itself. She, however, never complained.
After all, it was Hienna's idea not to settle for anything less than what they had discussed previously. Even though they had found nice spots, none of them felt like a home to her.
The mare sighed. "Will we ever find a place, Zaph?"

Perhaps it was due to the fact he was more used to roaming than his mate, but Zaph himself was surprisingly confident about the whole thing. On the one hand, two weeks WAS a long time. The two weeks he'd been searching for Hie had in fact TRANSCENDED long, so comparitively...
Frankly, just having her with him made anything seem like a positive, even when that meant frequent disappointment when it came to residential searches. But they'd find it...
Consequently, the smile on his face was a positive one when he answered his mate. "Of course we will, Hie; all we have to do is look in the right place, and we'll be the proud 'owners' of a comfortable new home."
And then they'd raise their family there in the perfect image of Soquili domesticity!

"I hope so," she mumbled, giving a small yawn. Not only that, she was hungry more often too - often making Zaphiro stop for a search of some kind of leaf or green.
It was making her fat, actually, but Hie hoped fervently that Zaphiro simply didn't notice. "Come, over this hill. Maybe it's here." Hienna always said that and it NEVER was.
The mare smiled over at her mate and started up the hill in hopes that this time it would hold a surprise.

Chuckling, Zaphiro followed his mate up the hill, the thick grass underfoot soft on his hooves. As was his wont, he followed Hienna's dainty form with his eyes, thinking in amusement how frequently she liked to lead and how rarely they came up with anything!
That in mind, he couldn't resist a bit of teasing. "You mean assuming it hasn't fled at our coming like every other place we've looked?"
Not that he was a pessimist, of course..he just couldn't resist a good opportunity!

Hienna frowned a bit, "That's not very nice, Zaphiro." And then a pause. "If they've fled it's because of you, not me. They know you're coming up after me and have to hide!"
She giggled, then, and reached the top of the hill. There it was. The lush green grass carpeted the ground, spreading far and wide with a medium sized pond in the center of the clearing. Several weeping trees were beside the water, their leaves kissing the still liquid. Not only that, all around were wildflowers and the scent filled her nostrils.
And off a bit was a cave that looked roomy enough for a family. They had found it.
"...Zaphiro..."

"Sure, blame me when it's YOU that...inspires...fear."
The teasing tone in Zaphiro's voice, which had been heavy as he followed after his mate, trailed off just as Hienna's had as he too crested the hill and was able to see what for all intents and purposes looked like a veritable Eden stretching before them. The pond was more than decently sized for swimming, the grasses lush and thick, the willows large and shady; the dark hole in the far hill that indicated a pleasantly sized cave.
Without saying even another word, Zaphiro moved closer to his mate and wrapped a wing around her, pulling her close against him and nuzzling her gently before finally murmuring, "Hienna...we're home."

Home. That one word flooded her with elation and she turned her head to nuzzle into her mate lovingly, "I'll say," she murmured in return. After all those days of searching and trekking all over it had most definitely been worth it and found when least expected.
"Welcome home, Zaphiro...Our home."
Christ she was going to cry! In fact, the unicorn mare promptly burst into tears.

Had this little incident happened a few weeks ago, Zaphiro likely would have been perplexed if not downright confused by Hienna's seemingly contradictory behavior. However, four weeks with her as his constant companion had taught him a little bit about her...
Like, for example, the fact that this was an expected reaction.
So he simply stood there, cradling his mate within his wings and smiling as he gently nuzzled away her tears. "Our home, indeed; our home to raise our family and to grow old together."
A VERY nice thought.
"But...do we want to stay up here forever, or should we go scope it out?" After all, it LOOKED perfect...but was it?

Hienna sniffled and nodded a bit, "Yes, let's go check it out..." What if the ground was boggy and muddy? That wouldn't do at all. And what if someone occupied the cave?
Slowly the mare started down the hill, her tail flicking a bit. This definitely had to be the most peaceful and beautiful place in existence and if it was taken she would be very upset.

Nodding, Zaphiro started down the hill as well, this time keeping pace with his mate. Considering how special this moment was, he wanted it to be something they shared completely.
And really, it was something worth sharing. As the two reached the bottom of the hill, the overpowering scent of flowers wafted up around them, intensified as their hooves crushed some of the blooms.
Being Zaphiro, the first thing he had to check up on, naturally, was the pond. Glancing over at Hienna, he gave her a quick grin. "One second..."
And then he was leaping into the water.

At least he hadn't splashed her! Hienna laughed softly as she watched him dive into the pond and took a few steps back just in case he decided it would be fun to use a wing and splash her purposefully.
"Is it cold, love? It looks positively freezing." And he knew how much Hienna despised cold water when there was no way to warm up.

The pond was far from large, but it was a bit more than seven feet deep near the center, which was where Zaphiro had made his plunge. As it was currently, he had resurfaced and flung back his wet curls, looking over at Hienna with a wide grin in response to her comment. "Absolutely marvelous, Hie; I think I could be happy here if I ONLY had this pond. You should really try it out."
This last bit was accompanied by a teasing wink, knowing how much his mate loathed the cold. It was pushing evening, after all, and the breeze blowing through was a bit on the chilly side; he'd have been shocked if she HAD joined him!

"Not on your life, Zaphiro, and I'm surprised you'd even think I would!" Hienna laughed a little bit and tossed her own curls as the wind dragged them into her eyes. It was a wonderful sight in all actuality. The mare already didn't wish to leave.
"Come, let's check out the cave and make sure this hasn't been claimed by another Soquili couple, hm?"
...God she hoped it was theirs.

"Seriously, you do NOT know how to have fun, Hie." Chuckling, Zaphiro waded out of the water; obligingly on the OPPOSITE side of the water from his mate, then proceded to shake vigorously; a bright cascade of water droplets flew about him, and for that moment he was like a whirlwhird of bright feathers, flying curls, and sparkling water.
But then he was trotting around to once again meet up with Hienna, in agreement on the cave concept. "Good plan; might as well find out if we're intruding on anything before getting too comfortable, eh?"
Serious and significant as the moment was, though, he couldn't resist baiting his mate, draping one cold wet wing over her as the two started for the cave. "Here's to hoping."

The swirl of blue and gold that he created was absolutely amazing and Hienna just couldn't help but stare. How was she so lucky as to have a mate not only beautiful inside - Christ he was beautiful inside - but on the outside too? Eh, she wouldn't complain.
But when Zaph draped a cold, wet wing over her she frowned, "You just enjoy making me cold and wet, don't you?!" This was said with no teasing tone and she took a step away, shivering a bit. Hopefully the cave would be warm.
Hie started to trot off without him toward the cave.
