Do j'all know what that is? It's when you are dreaming and you KNOW you're dreaming. There's all sorts of crazy information you could get from exploring the realm of dreams. I've been trying to dream lucidly for the past couple of nights by trying to keep conciousness when I drift to sleep by thinking of this particualr place, so when I get there, I'll know I'm dreaming.

Does anybody have experience with lucid dreaming? Does anybody have any tips on how to do it effectively?

I have dreams a lot where I know I'm dreaming, or I have some semblance of control. Like if something's after me or there's danger I have a habit of saying something along the lines of, "You can't see me because I'm invisible! Ha!"
And they walk right by me, sometimes saying, "Okay" or something. It's kind of funny.
I don't know, though, it's usually kind of fuzzy.
I've never chosen a destination or did those wierd kid-movie "This is my world and I'm in control!" things. Its always just fuzzy-casual.
I don't know how it happens or why or anything. I just sometimes know I'm dreaming in that fuzzy sort of way. (:

DANK THREAD!

I have had experience with lucid dreaming.

When you are dreaming, try to consciously look at your hands. I did this and was afforded a little more autonomy in the dream-state. This is traditionally the first step toward lucid dreaming.

I picked this up from one of Carlos Castaneda's books. Interesting stuff but should be treated as fiction IMO.

Crap, I was looking for a link, but it's not indexed.
Google shows a lot of stuff for "lucid dreaming" though.

yeah, I have a couple books and I've tried it, but never with any luck.

I should try again though, because I've heard it's an awesome way to reach self-discovery and get closer to god.

Lucid dreaming is great. Wikibooks has a nice article about it, including tips on acquiring the ability: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Lucid_dreaming

To anyone interested in lucid dreams, philosophy, etc. I recommend seeing the movie "Waking Life." It's so awesome.

I looked at the wiki article and ended up researching lucid dreaming all day thursday. that night I tried the Visual Inducement of Lucid Dreams (VILD) method. It didn't work because trying to visualize myself doing the reality checks kept me awake. I'm going to try again with a different method soon.

The funny thing is, last night I almost had a lucid dream, because I Had a dream within a dream. I even remembered my reality checks, but my reality checks were some weird checks I made up in my dream as I was doing them, and were not the ones I've been rehearsing. Like I said, I'll keep trying, and let you know how it goes.

Most of the time I can't remember what I dream. But normally I think of somthing extensively before I go to bed, and I end up dreaming about it smile

My lucid dreams usually occur really early in the morning (around 5 or 6am) when I''ve just woken up and am kinda dozing and drifting back to sleep.
I don''t get them that often, though.

I think that it is a waste of time to try and have lucid dreams. I can give you some tips on how to, but not because I've used them just because I know. You can try waking up at around 4am and going back to bed about 30-45 min later. My boyfriend does this stuff and it pisses me off. I usually know when I'm dreaming and if you just stop ******** with it, then it will come to you.

Remember that dreams don't mean anything. If you dream about drowning in new orleans (i'm from there) it just means that it's been on your mind. Or if you dream of your grandmother dying it doesn't mean that your grandmother is going to die, it just means that you are thinking of your grandmother.

My my, so sceptical sweatdrop

I believe, at the VERY LEAST dreams offer you insight straight into your subconcious. Certainly most dreams are symbolic of something that's going on in your life. I also belive that it's possible to see the future or something happening far away because in drean state, the "you" (by 'you' I mean the concentration, the observer, whatever the actual 'you' is) is no longer limited by physical reaity and becomes free to be wherever your imagination can take you!

So I found some cool tactics to help you lucid dream more! It's all got to do with what you do in waking reality. Just by getting into the habit of checking reality and every once in a while making sure you're awake by feeling what it feels like to be awake. If you choose targets (like, when you brush your teeth, when you see a dog, or a clock etc.) and keep at it trying to remember, and feeling what it's like to be awake, when you see them in your dream it will be out of habit to try and REALLY feel if you're awake. Not just some kind of mental habit ("am I awake? Yes...") but REALLY making sure and it becomes easier to Lucid dream.

So about a month ago, I finally had one! I didn't do much in it because it didn't last, but I DID look at my hands, and TheArgus was right! So crazy! I remember thinking I could go anyhere or learn ANYTHING, but all I could think to say was "help me" and it sounded all fuzzy and electronic. Then I woke up...

I'm hoping if I keep hitting my targets, I'll be lucid dreaming on a routine basis!

Ever since my childhood, I've been very interested in my dreams. Actually, if I dream something, I more often than not remember it. I find that it is usually most help full to do a runthrough of what you just dreamt once you wake up. I just find miself still thinking about what I was dreaming in the morning sweatdrop . If I want to remember later in the day ( I think that's when most ppl try, and find that they can't remember) I go back to what I was thinking about when I woke up, and that leads me to remember my dream.

I used to have a lot of nightmares and it was very unpleasant when I thought of them, almost as much as having them. I always wondered if they had some sort of meaning... Anyway, so I tryied to rationolize it so that I wouldn't be afraid anymore. I figured that if I could remember that I was dreaming, I could do something about it. It worked to a degree, I couldn't do the movie thing, " this is my world, where I defy the laws of physics" either, but I could wake myself up whenever I realized I was having a nightmare. It was somthing silly, like closing my eyes real hard (in the dream, of course) and opening them even harder, that would usually jolt me awake. Also, I would spin around in circles with my eyes closed, again, and do it until I woke up. I guess it had something to do with conciously denying that what I was "seeing" wasn't real.

I've also had good dreams, where I'm aware that I'm dreaming, and just try to roll with it. I don't think that I'm ever asleep for very long after I realize that, though...

my mom is always talking about casteneda. she says she has been flying in her dreams. she is helping me to get over my bad dreams by controling my dreams. after finding my hands and not looking at them too hard(or they disappear!), then practicing looking up from them, i am going to run up to those monsters and give them a big hug and a tickle!!!!then who knows maybe i will fly too!!!!
