These are of my horse, Morning Sunshine Penny Lane. (We just call her Penny for short. xD ) She is Pure bred Quarter Horse, and has two long socks, two short ones. She has little white flicks on her too in random spots. She is 21 years old, and I took these photo's today, March 13 2007.

I must say- she's looking better at 21 than most horses I've seen! She also looks very intelligent, really.

Equine love Ohh shes 21, that could explain why she is skinny. How often do you ride her? No it shouldnt!! NO HORSE should ever have an excuse to be skinny because its OLD. Just because a horse is old, doesnt give it permission to be skinny. It's because older horses need more care than young ones, and people generally fail to give those horses the attention they deserve to keep their weight on. If the horse is healthy other wise, and is just old, there is not reason why the horse shouldnt be a healthy weight. If all is being done for a horse to keep wight on and its not, it might be time to say good bye. But i can tell you from experince, it is NOT HARD to put weight on a horse.

Agreed. But my horse Labre is only 18 and it is hard to keep weight on her. (but she has a good medical reason) not just because we don't feed her properly.

We had a diabetic pony with a tumor that we could keep weight on. Any idea of what a horse with diabeties can eat when hay is complex sugars? Not much. The pony was 24. Hard to keep weight on is different than not keeping weight on. But I would say if the horse is any less than a 4 on the body weight scale, the feeding schedual and program needs to be revised, or contact a vet.
