One belief is that all humans have these alien souls inside. And some god called Xenu?

I could look it up for you. My public library has two copies of the Scientology Handbook. eek

Here's a little about Scientology:

It was founded by a science fiction writer named L. Ron Hubbard in 1952. It was originally supposed to be a self-help philosophy.

This self-help philosophy is called Dianetics, and is meant to free your "thetan," or soul, from the souls of aliens that are attached to it.

Xenu was an alien dictator of the "Galactic Confederacy" who, 75 million years ago, brought billions of aliens to Earth in DC-8-like spacecraft, stacked them around volcanoes and blew them up with hydrogen bombs. Their souls then clustered together and stuck to the bodies of the living, and continue to wreak chaos and havoc today.

Human thetans are millions of years old, having been reincarnated over and over, with these alien souls attached.

According to the Church, the ultimate goal is to get the soul (thetan) back to its native state of total freedom, thus gaining control over matter, energy, space, time, thoughts, form, and life. This freed state is called Operating Thetan, or OT for short.

I didn't make up any of that.

Aliens notwithstanding, I find any organization that demands 5000$ at the door for membership suspicious. Oh, and they're a bunch of wackos, anyway.

Every religion seems wacko to someone...

Though I do very strongly disagree with the practise of "payment for enlightenment."

And on a separate note, I read a blog entry about Xenu the other day that raised quite a good point. It said that Xenu was not literal, nor was he even allegory. In fact, the author claimed that not even most Scientologists believe in Xenu (which can be disputed, but still raises good questions).

Xenu is weird and "out-there" simply to draw attention and attract a following. He is a "window dressing" designed to dress up the actual beliefs and practises being followed, which is, simply put, cleansing the soul.

Take this example... there's alot of people who are such die-hard Cthulhu fans that they literally worship him, despite the fact that he is very blatantly fiction.

AMoA: Every religion is full of wackos. I'm an atehist for a reason.

I also, by the way, don't discriminate on the basis of religion. I think the same of the Evangelical Christian on TV at 4 AM as I do the wacko Sheik telling people to blow themselves up for their (the Sheik) political advancement being reported on Al-Jazeera. They're both wackos.
