Lately I've seen that the Saint Peter's Cross, better known as the upside down cross, affiliated moreso with anti-Christian and Satanic groups. I'd like to know why. Why is it an anti-Christian symbol? Why are people turned away from various churches when wearng some kind of accessory or attire that shows this cross.

In my opinion, it is in no way whatsoever anti-Christian, but pro-Christian. The Saint Peter's cross holds the tradition that when Peter was martyred, he asked to be crucified upside down, as he felt he did not deserve the same death of Jesus, due to his denial of him. That right there shows a sign of humility, and that we do not deserve Jesus to have died on the cross for us, however he did so out of love. I see nothing anti-Christ about it.

Opinions?

Well, the thing is Peter's cross and satanic upside down cross are a little bit different.

The shape of Peter's cross resembles the position he was hanging in.

Sadly, lots of possers wear both crosses as satanic, therefore everybody labels both symbols as satanic.

I, personally, don't wear St. Peter's cross, because I know people wouldn't understand, and God commands us not to bring senseless discussion into church.

St. Peter's cross resembles a sword. Perhaps if you want to wear a symbol like his cross you could wear a sword, which would have other positive Christian connections. The Bible as the believers sword of faith, etc.

I've never seen that difference before, thanks man. Bu tare we seriously to;d not to bring senseless discussion into the church? if so why do any of us (the goth comunity) go in the first place? Just our existance brings sensless debate.

Well we do, if we dress up like this just to bug people. If your intention is not that then all the people judging you must read their bibles a little bit more.

Sadly there's churches where goth-like dressing won't be allowed, others do allow. I think we just need to find a church were black-wearing is not seen as a sin. Clothing is not something spiritual, but I think satanic-like symbolism is (even if it's not satanic but it looks like), so it affects your testimony.

Honestly I don't see the difference, considering they still mean the same thing to us. The same cross is also used to mark the tomb of Peter.

Not many churches will allow goths. I've been shunned many a time, but I've been accepted at one where I am accepted, as it is a church that encourages diversity, which unfortunetly I can not attend due to the distance and no way to get there. Currently I don't attend church. I do however, set time aside to have a little bible study on my own. And when I've no time for that I end up going to ChristianGoth's "Did you miss church on Sunday?" site and go on from there.

I never went goth to piss people off. although i have the knowledge that being who i am will make some uncomfortabl confused or angry. and every once in a while i play it up a little. i mostly use it as a wakeup call. i have a strange feeling that God called us to be shakers of the old ways. to break the self-rightious mindsets that start within churches.

well I've had a little trouble with churches, but I have other problems with my church too, like the pastor's wife is a school teacher and she dosen't like me cause I'm home schooled so she treats me like crap, and one of the other youth group people is a school teacher and she hates me, then there is ward the I think old dude that treats all people the same, he's awesome.

Well i would simply like to state that the upside down cross(not the st peters cross which has most likely been around longer) is actually used by satanists cause it represents a perversion of everything christ stands for.. if you invert a symbol it means the opposite of its original.. same reason satanic whichs use an upsidedown pentagram because its an inversion of the original that represents good things like nature and the human state.. i hope that helps..
