We all know the story of Alice. A girl with a cat in the middle of a lesson is led away when she follows a white rabbit into a nonsensical world she'd only seen in her imagination.
In the end, we learned the same lesson that Alice learned: the world Alice wanted of "nonsense" was not as great as she thought it would have been. Be careful what you wish for, right?
Well, we learned a lesson, and that's great, but what if that wasn't the reason she was brought to Wonderland? What if she hadn't run away to find that it had all been a dream?
In fact, what if it wasn't a dream, and the characters were very real?
Welcome to Wonderland.

How it happened...
Alice was a nineteen-year-old girl who was almost a year out of her home and a sophomore at a small community college. She worked at a café and paid for her own apartment in New York while writing novels on her spare time--a normal girl, really. But she was curious. On her way to school from work one day, her attention was caught by a small boy with rabbit ears, a tail, and strange attire. He seemed to be in a rush, but to where? That's what Alice would find out. She followed the boy into an alley, through a door, and into a world where nothing made sense.
After a long journey where Alice met a pair of story-telling twins, a garden of pretentious flowers, a quizzical caterpillar, and many others, she needed to get home. She needed someone to help her find her way there, too, but when she came upon a garden of painted roses, she realized that she also needed rest, so without further adieu, she curled up in a bed of wild flowers and fell asleep under the stars.
This is where our story begins.
There are four countries/kingdoms in Wonderland: The Spades of the North, Hearts in the East, Cloves of the South, and Diamonds of the West. The countries of Hearts and Cloves are at war for a reason of which no one is really sure (it is assumed for land). In fact, no one really remembers who started it, but everyone is convinced that it's for a good reason, so they all just go along with it. The Kingdom of Spades supplies both sides (though mainly Hearts since they have better relations), and the Kingdom of Diamonds is far too absorbed in itself to be bothered by the lesser peoples of the world. Currently, Hearts is ahead of Cloves in the war and has recently invaded three villages in the northern lands of the Cloven Kingdom.
In general, the people are happy, but needless to say, the Cloven authorities aren't too pleased and are starting to get reckless with their military.
But there's a legend, and prophecy, and the prophecy is starting to come true.
When the moon smiles for many nights and the soils of Clove turn Red, a black Knight with green orbs will come from another land. Two will become one, and balance will be restored.

Kingdoms
North -- Spades The second richest country in Wonderland, but the conceited king has convinced even himself that they are the richest country; thus, its people believe it too. Of course, the other countries (mainly Hearts and Cloves. Diamonds doesn't care) know better than to try to convince them otherwise. Spades provides both Hearts and Cloves with items for the war; however, since relations are stronger with Hearts, they get more supplies for cheaper.
East -- Hearts A land of abundance. Though they are not the richest country, it is said that the people from the Land of Hearts are the happiest and most compassionate in the world of Wonderland. This in mind, it is assumed that the Cloves started the war in a fit of jealousy, but whether or not this is true, Hearts seems to be playing with the Army of Clove. The country is ruled by a happy couple who splits the political power and responsibilities equally. At first, people weren't sure of a king sharing the power with his queen, but over the years, they've come not to doubt the woman.
South -- Cloves The poorest country in Wonderland. Because of the poor soil quality and somewhat harsh living-conditions, it's easy to assume that they're the ones who started the war, envious of Hearts' happiness and abundance. They country is ruled by a seemingly cold king (he and his wife often scoff at Hearts' shared throne between king and queen). Long ago, in an act of experimental compassion, the Diamonds once sent the Cloven government a great sum of money to help the economy and build up the country, but they foolishly put the money to the war efforts. Most of the people wear grey and brown clothing as dyes are considered a luxury.
West -- Diamonds The richest country in Wonderland. When the countries were first established, the other three didn't have much faith in the future of the Land of Diamonds, but it has surpassed them all and now ignores them. When the present queen first took her place at the throne, she heard of the poverty in the Cloven lands. Her first action as Queen was gifting the Cloven government with a large amount of money to help fix the conditions; however, then she saw what the foolish king did with the money, she vowed never to let anyone from the Diamond Kingdom to help any of the other countries as long as the war continued.

Characters (( I've given most of them names. Pictures soon to come! )) If you're interested in playing one of the pre-mades, PM me with their age (if not included) and any additional information. I wasn't feeling too...profile-y to make actual profiles for them, so just a little blurb about them will do if there isn't one. This goes for the made-ups, too. ^_^ Attention Made-Ups! If you're sending me a made-up, please include a description of their appearance or a good picture of them. It'll have to match, so I have to have a good source from which to draw him/her. ^_^ Quote: Alice Dinah19 years. She's a free-lance writer, lives in her own apartment, and goes to a small community college with the money she makes off of her part-time job and the books she writes. She's deep and practical, but very curious and imaginative. Quote: Aidan Heart36 years. The King of Hearts. He's very fun-loving, and it sometimes seems that he'll drop his responsibility as King, but he's shown the people that he'd only do this if he knows his wife will take over the job for a short time. Sharing the power of the throne with Morrigan was his idea. When he was sixteen, he parents attempted to end the war by sending him to go to Clove and marry of the the twin princesses, but on his way there, he met Morrigan on the side of the road. Within a year, they were married. When he was 18, his father died in war, and the throne was passed on to him. He'll fight along-side with the other soldiers once in a while (when he feels like it). Badge Morrigan Heart34 years. Queen of Hearts. She grew up with a sickly father and two busy brothers (her older brother was a soldier, and her younger a student), so she was the one making all the money by selling flowers on the side of the road. (( Incomplete. )) Quote: Devin Heart20 years. The Prince of Hearts. (( Incomplete. )) Quote: Damon Spades35 years. The King of Spades. Though he's not selfish, he's a pretty conceited king, but he's forgiven simply because he's generally a good person. What happened to the Queen of Spades remains unknown as far as the story goes, but no matter what happened, he seems to be over it, especially since he seems to have a sort of puppy-love toward Morrigan. While he usually makes passes at her whenever they see each other, it's either he's not serious or she doesn't care since he's always very playful. (( Incomplete. )) Quote: Mira Spades19 years. The Princess of Spades. (( Incomplete. )) Quote: Tara -- Chesire CatShe's very playful. Tara usually takes on the form of a black-striped orange tabby cat, but once in a while, she'll assume the appearance of a young teen-aged girl with orange hair and black cat ears/tail. (( Incomplete. )) Quote: Castor -- Tweedle-DeeThe younger of the twins. (( Incomplete. )) Quote: Pollux -- Tweedle-DumThe older of the twins. (( Incomplete. )) Quote: Gwyn -- White RabbitAppears to be around ten years old. He's the Kingdom of Hearts' messenger boy, but he often makes mistakes when he's delivering messages (but it always turns out for the better). (( Incomplete. )) Aradun ClockClock hadn't existed until the real world intervened with the one called Wonderland. Since then he had been a fascinating pet for the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts, for he could tell time. Not just any time, of course, but keep track of the time that Alice knew. Clock had been giving his name by the Queen of Hearts, the first to find the wandering shard of time and his purpose had been discerned by the Mad Hatter. Of course, no one knew what else he was good for and as such Clock is prone to wandering, gathering information here and there. Like a pendulum of a clock , Clock also has two personalities and at any random moment could be Alice's friend or foe. Clock looks like a mask. The right side of his head is covered with white hair, the left black. His left eye is white, lacking a pupil or iris, and his right eye is black, dark enough that you can't see the pupil. He often dresses in the garb of a bard or swashbuckler (leather breeches, thigh high boots, and any comfortable shirt) and the gloves on his hands mirror the colors of his hair; white on right, black on left. Other characters include the following, but I didn't really make bios for them because I didn't include them (a lot) in the story I'm writing. Then again, I'm not finished with the story, so if I start using one of these characters more later on, and the position is still open, I'll put some information up. Feel free to add more if you so desire. ^_^
The Caterpillar The Mad Hatter The March Hare
I'm sure I've forgotten a lot...

Her legs swung back and forth quite childishly as she sat on the swinging bench. Her dark eyes were cast down toward the small wildflowers as she found her mind wandering as it often did. Her husband was off at war at the moment. Or was he in the town mingling with the commoners? Either way, he was out and about while she had to stay behind and keep an eye on things, despite how ritualistic everything had seem to become.
"A girl!" cried one of the castle guards, quickly approaching the day-dreaming queen, "Your Majesty, one of the other guards found a girl in black sleeping in the West Courtyard."
"She could be from either Clove or Spades," she said, looking at the sleeping girl. Though it was dark, there was still a little light provided by the sky other than the few lamps about the area. "She's too clean and kept to be from that wasteland we call Clove, now that I think of it.." she thought out loud, "Damon hasn't told me anything about him sending anyone, but I'd say the best bet is that she's from Spades.."
(( Damon = King of Spades. ))

Clock yawned profoundly. It might have been the middle of the day in Wonderland, but in the real world, the world that determined his internal clock, it was the middle of the blasted night. He didn't sleep much anymore, but he was always tired; having two conflicting clocks was certainly a nuisance.
He yawned again and rubbed at his eyes, one appearing blind with a cataract, the other bleary and red veined with sleeplessness. Another hour passed by and as it came and went, Clock watched his legs as he faded in and out of existence three times, tolling the third hour of the real world morning. He groaned and grumbled; his body was exhausted but his brain was wide awake. "Sleep," he muttered, staring determinedly at a hedge wall. "Sleep, all I want is some sleep..."
