She lay watching the sunset, the sky picture perfect in it's pinky glow. There was something calming about this time of day, the sky's serenade to the sun and welcome to the moon. Soon her beloved Shining Sister would be revealed to her, amongst a blanket of stars and she would sing out her heart.

She had been howling a lot lately, howling in question, desperate for answers. However, this night she would come to realise that her prayers had been asnwered.

The moon had heard her plea for a purpose and had organised a meeting that would slowly heal this wolfess' heart.

A wisp of wind caught in her fur and tugged it gently, urging her to her paws, instinct overwhelming her. For she was an intelligent beast and had a way of listening to the forest.

Somewhere close by, something stirred.

Panting loudly, the unfamiliarity and the noises of the forest unsettled the pup. The gaze of the moon fell over her back, and she delved in amongst the tall trees and their shaded branches. The warmer smell of oak and wet bark brought delight to her nose as she sniffed in happily, navigating her way around a little more confidently. The occasional bump or stumble was unexpected, and sometimes announced with a loud yelp; but still proved signs to the extent of her immaturity and incapability.

Kaya raised her head with a timid expression, her nostrils flaring out into the distance and her ears fell to the ground. Her two senses were becoming very trained, their jobs and duties very apparent in the absense of her eyes.

Glittering grey eyes shone out, a colection of tattered memories flourished throughout her mind, their suppression too great to not acknowledge. Where had she got herself? What had happened? The time spent lone, away, and lost was felt. Her fur had lost its 'golden' quality and had considerably darkened, and her paws ripped and bruised.

Her soul was diminished. And her objectives and friends were outcast. Who was she?

A cloud gathered overhead and suddenly the heavens tore. From the sky came a rain that was both light and refreshing. It trickled harmoniously against the new leaves and made them sparkle with captured moonbeams.

Tainn moved through the undergrowth, using the sound of the rain to mask her movements, yet to sharpened ears the sound of the bell at her throat could be heard ringing.

She paused and raised her muzzle, giving a low call out through the trees. Who was out there? Was it a friend? Her spine tingled with a sudden rise of nervousness but excitement too and she jittered on her paws.

Who's there? Her breath hung in the air for a moment and then faded from view and her sides trembled as she supressed a breath to listen for a reply through the rain.

Kaya quivered as the voice came into earshot. She was apprehensive, not purely because of the mystery of it, but because of the area she was in; what kind of wolf travelled to the very edge? A wolf as desperate and confused as her? Or someone seeking out the very meaning of life? A soulful, self searching wolf?

The wolf fell, her legs too exhausted to carry her any further. A rustle of branches and leaves beneath distracting her as the twigs snapped as violently as her legs.

Someone who has lost her way. She growled darkly, her eyes glinting with caution. Someone who can't make anything out anymore... Someone who is probably too tired to.

The wolf groaned, regaining footing and brushing off specks of blood which decorated her fur.

Who's there? She replied.

There was a faint smell of blood in the air that had Tainn's hackles up. But it did not matter how fierce she looked to this poor little wolfess, whose eyes did not work.

She crept forwards through the foliage, sniffing madly as she went and finally she saw the wolfess picking herself up from the ground. She was smaller than herself and younger too, but Tainn did not realise how different this girl was to her. Not until she caught sight of those ghostly eyes.

Moon's light, is she my answer? She whispered to her dead alpha, long gone from this world. As she stared into Kaya's blind face she found herself trembling and a long whine escaped from her throat. Please wolfkin. She begged. Please don't talk so. Let me help you. She wasn't too sure how she would have been of any use, but somehow she knew she had to try.

I am Tainn, a wolfess just like you. She drew closer, Don't worry, I would never harm a fellow sister of the moon. What is your name? Where have you come from?

Kaya fell away back from Tainn, cautiously glaring up into the skys above. Stay away. She pleaded, but with no distress. You don't know who I am. You don't know who I am. Her head lunged down, and she bore her teeth carefully, her mouth foaming. You don't know who I am. You don't know who I am. The wolf pounced forward dangerously toward Tainn.

You don't know who I am! She barked loudly, an eerie madness taking over the small wolf's body, eyes sparkling white.

Tainn could have moved, would have moved, but somehow this little girl's madness held her in check. There was no fear in her eyes as the adolescent pounced, instead remaining calm. It was almost creepy to see the lack of emotion in her face.

Dear one, sweet one. Please calm. No, I do not kno-- She winced and gritted her teeth as the brown female pounced, digging her paws into the ground to stop herself from getting bowled over. The girl's teeth caught at her back, and the pain seemed to register for a moment. Then Tainn continued;

Hush now, it's okay...really it is. There's no need to be upset or angry. I told you I wouldn't harm you. Hush now.

The brown wolf fell to the ground, her eyes dormant, and snapping shut harshly. I can't find... my home. Kaya whispered sadly, howling out the weakest song her voice could muster. I'm Kaya... and I'm lost She introduced, sliding her legs in and curling up. It had seemed the real world had lost touch with her, and the time alone had taken its toll. Her ribs horribly apparent and printed throughout her body.

Tainn...

She begged, tears streaming.

Tainn was sure of this now. This was her second chance, her second chance to proove herself, to gain forgiveness for not protecting her alpha. Now she could protect this little one and keep her safe from harm.

Oh dear one, little wolfkin, perhaps I can help you? And then she received a name and she looked to the one in a kindly, motherly fashion. Kaya, it is a plasure to meet you.

Then she stepped forwards and nosed the younger's face gently. Come now, please don't cry Kaya. Everything will be fine. How about we try and find you some food then I can help you get home to your family, yes? She hoped desperately that the blind wolf would take her up on her offer.
