Between the trees of the old forest that stretched into the Artali herd's range, sun dappled a gold and gray painting upon the leaf littered ground. Everywhere seemed damp from melting snow, which still clung helplessly to the earth in little patches here and there. A small breeze carried the fresh scent of spring and rustled the trees above, giving sound to its otherwise silent presence.

The same breeze ruffled the storm gray and granite peach fur of the currently lone cow as she meandered around slowly, nose at the ground as she tore fresh greens from the earth. With every movement she made, the silver bells that adorned her neck jingled lightly, announcing her presence to the world. ...But that didn't matter. The cow was unaffraid of wolves or other dangerous lera. That, and none of them would normally dare to come near her due to the freakishly large head of antlers she wore, which glinted every so often when their almost golden surface flicked into the sun.

Glosoli heard Blitzen before he saw her. But first he smelled her. Anlach was coming; his fur bristled and his blood burned. Sesilida was nearby, somewhere, but for once another cow seemed more important to him.

Her antlers, usually so large and imposing, seemed even more so now. But in the patchy light, they somehow shined even brighter gold than usual. Or maybe he was just being sentimental.

His head held high and tilted to one side, showing off his own unusual antlers, he strode towards her.

"Hello, Blitzen." His voice faltered ever so slightly upon the name, but he continued more strongly. "How are you?"

Upon feeling another's presence, the cow instinctively began to go on "ignore" in thinking that it was probably Dasher or her brother, Donner, coming to complain again, but after hearing the new voice, she allowed herself to spare a glance upwards.

The one who stood before her was definitely not Dasher or Donner, not even her younger brother.

Blinking, the female outrider swallowed the grass in her mouth and bowed her head in some sort of greeting. "Good afternoon, Glosoli," She hadn't ever really spoken to the ivory bull much, despite them both being outriders. ...She wasn't the most social butterfly out there.

"I'm fine. You?"

Glosoli, too, did not often socialize. Normally he was perfectly content to watch out for his sister. So of course, he had absolutely no experience in chatting up cows.

"I'm very well." He tried casually edging a few steps closer. "Haven't smelled any Lera about for some time."

She gave a small amused smirk, the normal facial expression as of late. "I haven't either...Which is probably good for Donner. He's been acting up about the Lera again lately..." A husky chuckle escaped her, which actually felt rather awkward since she didn't normall laugh much in this type of scene.

Her chuckle sent a relaxing wave along his spine; he hadn't realized quite how tense he was until the feeling ebbed somewhat. But only somewhat. "Donner acting up lately?" He smiled a bit, and even went as far as to wink at her. She could be a bit brusque, he knew from reputation, so he could only hope she would not be offended by the joke.

She wasn't.

Snorting, she then let another chuckle mix with her words and replied, "true true. I guess he always does seem to be acting up about them. Nervous nelly..." she gave a bark-laugh.

"Yes, but it seems to have served the herd well so far..." He looked away at the ground for a moment, thinking of Sesilida, and of the crippled calf Tumi. Which brought him back around to his original line of thought. Calves. "I suppose after Anlach he'll be even more nervous, with pregnant cows to watch over, and then calves..." He cleared his throat and looked back at Blitzen, more determined. She was a strong cow--no doubt the strongest in the herd--and she would want a strong mate. No time to seem weak or shy now. "You haven't joined a harem yet, have you Blitzen?"

Golden eyes flicked up at the ivory outrider. The comment she was going to say about Donner and Anlach was tossed aside as his latest words pulled at using more attention.

Yeah. She had to have known the question would come.

Rising her head a little, Blitzen replied, "noo...I have not," and then to save the poor guy from going much further with the topic, she added, "...and I'm not sure I will. ...Join a harem, that is. It's not my personal time to be thinking about mates and calves and...yeah." She ended lamely, and glanced down at the soggy ground.

Oh. Well then. Of the scenarios he had anticipated for this situation, Blitzen refusing to stand with any bull was not one of them. Fighting Comet or Ranorth he'd been prepared for. But this... well, he was dumbstruck for a moment. And then he smiled apologetically at her.

"That's a shame, but if you don't want to stand at Anlach... then all right. I suppose I probably can't change your mind on that."

Well, at least he acted more mature than Dasher had!

Looking up, she returned the apologetic smile with one her own, which was rare...veeerrry rare, and shook her head lightly. "Not this time, I'm affraid," she then went on, "I'm sorry, Glosoli. It's just that we havn't been here long, and everything's still so new. Until the herd is firmly situated, my mind doesn't let me think of having a family of my own. There's just too much other stuff to worry about right now."

Well, he supposed she did have a point... Perhaps it was better for the Outrider cows not to stand this Anlach. But, though he'd not approached any of the other cows, they had seemed rather stand-offish too. Being unfamiliar with and unsettled in the herd's new territory must be affecting them all, he decided. They were afraid they would lose their calves.

"I do hope that, come next Anlach, you'll have less to worry about."

Blitzen tossed her head in a nod. "I hope so as well... Perhaps then Donner'll stop fussing over the Lera and I can finally stop worrying that we're all going to die from rabbit bites." She laughed, trying to ease any awkwardness or ill feelings towards her earlier descission... though she wasn't getting the vibe of any, which was a nice change.

Rabbit bites. Heh. Glosoli grinned, thankful she had let him down so easily and that the conversation had changed direction. There was no reason to dwell on his rejection. Yes, there was still Vixen, if he could summon the courage to approach her. Or Prancer. He didn't think that Aderyn could have another calf yet, but he supposed he could at least claim her as his. That left Dancer... oh, but he'd let his mind wander. Back to Blitzen; even if he couldn't have her this Anlach, he couldn't just ignore her.

"Well if rabbit bites are the most of our worries, then perhaps things aren't quite so bad."

(( x__x omg I'm so sorry! I totally got into an RP rut and the sidetracked. ))

"If only so," she chuckled again in her husky voice.

Golden eyes glanced around the forest, its trees still dark from the damp air and melting snow. "Have you seen any one else around?" she questioned, and gave a side glance back towards him. "I havn't all day."
