This isn't very relevent, but my party this year is going to be 1920's themed!
We're making it like an old speakeasy! I get a pretty dress too!
It's not my Bat Mitzvah, but it's a party!

I didn't really have a theme to my bat mitzvah... but it was really funny because at the nightime party a whole bunch of my girls my age came and only one guy did... it was pretty funny watching people chase him...

I had a shared Bar-Mitzvah with my sister who is one year younger than me. Everyone said that the invitation looked like a wedding invitation... To me getting married with my sister stare ... and Tomer who is sitting next to me, only now realized this fact.
I mean like... C'mon it's not even funny! stressed Who'd marry their sister? sweatdrop
I'll post a picture of it... or not.

My bar mitzvah was fantasy themed.. Because I'm so huge into fantasy, and stuff like magic and the like..
It was very controversial, because I turned my synagogue into an art gallery of all my work, which depicted more fantasy..
Many people in my synagogue had a problem with this because some of my pictures.. the girls in the pictures werent dressed "proper" enough for them, and there was like tornadoes and fire and stuff in the background in some, and some of them even played with fire in their hands as if controlling it..
I made sure to check with the rabbi if it was okay if I did that, and he loved my pictures! He was like one of the only few that understood it was just fantasy and I wasn't saying its real or I believed in it.. A lot of the other people thought it was very controversial, and anti-religion (cause magic, and fantasy themed stuff) so I had to explain to them as they went around wishing me mazel tov, that I wasn't some sort of satanist, but I do happen to be a big fan of fantasy based art and books ect. To which they said "Why cant you draw anything with religious meaning in it?" and I thought "Wouldn't it be against the religion to depict a religious figure such as moses or god?"
Aside from the stupid pishers that complained about my artwork (though, said that I have great talent.), and the ones that walked out (my "great" grandparents and aunts and uncles from my mothers side) because it wasn't about them, it was a wonderful day. It was on shabbat so I unfortunately could not take pictures.. But the memory of it burns brighter in my mind than a picture ever could (partially cause I hate camras)
It is still one of the most beautiful ones I went to..
And.. Everyone that had a problem with my gallery in the synagogue, all of them came for the kiddush and enjoyed the food. -.-;;
For kiddush, I made sure that they used all my favorite foods, same thing for all the meals we offered. biggrin
Though, I did have them bring in sushi.. Not that I could eat it (I'm allergic), but it showed off the side of me that says "See! Even though I dont like it, that doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy!" biggrin
Oh.. I also used this picture of a wolf with wings, and a bunny rabbit cat with wings.. I meant those to be sorta whimsical (as the winged rabbit is prancing around in a nice field, and the wolf howls at the moon)
and some people cried "DEMONS!!!"
-.-;;
I also have not spoken to many people on my fathers side of the family since my bar mitzvah which is already 5 years ago. :O

sad That's horrible of them; I'm sorry!! I can't believe somebody in your own family would do that- hmph. Ignore them, and scan the pictures if you want so we can see how awesome they were. 3nodding
I love fantasy stuff, too! Do you like reading that sort of genre book? I can give you some great recommendations if you'd like. ^^;;

My mother decided to do a theme for my Barmitzvah, I wanted nothing to do with it and in fact refused to assist her with picking out anything.
Eventually we comprimised, the cake would have a theme and that's all.
However, for true outrage... this belongs firmly to a function I was working bar for. My work order was for a 80 person dinner party In Honor of this teenage girl.
A thirteen year old girl had a massive birthday party with a proper dinner with a dance club theme, a DJ, all her friends and family. Presents galore and all sorts of fun...
Meanwhile me the poor shlump of the bartender has to make Shirley Temples like they're going out of style.
Overhearing the girls at the party they were commenting how much more fun this was than the bat mitzvah they all went to last month.
I asked one of them what temple they belong to...
The girl began to explain that she wasn't jewish and that this was just her 14th birthday party.
I asked why she wanted to have such a big party
to which she responded... "Oh the Jews have the Bar Mitzvahs and Bat Mitzvahs, I thought it was only fair that I had one too."
That's right folks... it was a Faux-Mitzvah.
What's your opinion on that one?

*sigh* People just like excuses to throw parties.
In all honesty, I think a lot of the bar/bat mitzvahs today are too extravagant, and it takes away from the real meaning behind it. Instead of kids being excited about getting closer to G-d and being an adult in the eyes of others, they just want bigger and more expensive parties. Rather stupid in my opinion. sweatdrop
