We love him because we identify with Erik and his problems in life. And when we have a bad day, Erik's could've been worse than ours. 3nodding

...handsome? D: What Phantom are YOU looking at? xp Gah. xd
Erm... Because... he's... dedicated to the one he loves (okay, overly-possesive, yes, but STILL.), passionate, strong, has so many amazing talents (D: Singing, composing, architecturally adept, artistic, all the things Youko loves) and he has a sort of soft spot. O_o Not really a soft spot but... like... he... I dunno how to describe it. Like... the way he acts after Christine kisses him (novel or play...) just makes me want to hug him and cry with him. ;~; And in the book, he has this sort of... childlike attitude that he has sometimes that I'm drawn to.

We love him because he's an extortionist, murderer, blackmailer, and thief. He is also sociopath who is obsessed with a woman who does not return his love. If you go by the Kay version you may also add in drug addict.
Just because we love him does not mean we should ignore all of his negative qualities.

We love him because you'd be hard-pressed to find someone more devoted to you...
And he's a fricken' genius! And he's dark and mysterious. Like a ninja. Only he sings better than a ninja. ninja We love him because Erik is a hero with problems who turns villan then hero again, then he turns into some lonely guy we all cry for and love.

We love him because we know the pain that comes from being met with hatred by the outside world. We love him because we wish that there could be a way such pain could be erased, but, like Erik, we find that we are left alone in the end. We love him because everything he does is done with purpose, even if it is chilling and disturbing. We love him because he is an exaggerated extension of our own pain, passion, and desire.
We love him because he is Erik.

We love him because he is Erik. Actually, there is no possible way we could relate to the rejection of society. We do not have horrible deformed faces, we were not hated by our mothers and by the rest of the world because we were ugly. We did not love someone who was entirely unattainable only to be shot down and die of heartache. Angst is so over-used it makes me ill. *le sigh* And as Unromantic said, though we love him (for whatever reason we may) we cannot ignore his flaws. For being imperfect is what makes us human.

Growing up, I was completely suicidal by the age of 12 because people attempted to kill me on the way home from school. I was brutally abused in my home life. I have loved someone who is unattainable and been shot down. Who hasn't? Why the hell would you make such a reply to me? You think I'm just some stupid gushy moron who isn't capable of relating to a tragic fictional character? You ought to take yourself down a peg and relax.

Excuse me if I sounded rude, but I find too many people are angsty in this world and personally it has gotten old. Forgive me if I offended you in any way.

Yes, I agree that angst is quite overused, especially by people who's problems only extend to their inability to have the curfew they wish. I'm just a little sensitive about things. And dun worry about it... I shouldn't have replied with an outburst, anyhow. sweatdrop

There is something about Erik's persona that makes you want to cry for him, and huggle him at the same time.

Duelriel We love him because you'd be hard-pressed to find someone more devoted to you... And he's a fricken' genius! And he's dark and mysterious. Like a ninja. Only he sings better than a ninja. ninja We love him because Erik is a hero with problems who turns villan then hero again, then he turns into some lonely guy we all cry for and love. What, you don't think ninjas can sing? *whack* Don't stereotype ninjas, I know for a fact that many ninjas are fond of singing Britney Spears. ...what was this thread about again? confused Oh yeah, why we love Erik... Well, depends which Erik, there are so many interpretations of him and his story... I wouldn't say I love Leroux's Erik, but he facinates me, and I sympathize with him. He's facinating because, well, he's a genius. There is so much to him, so much he knows, so much he has and could accomplish. Yet I think what is most facinating about him is he would throw away all these things for something so simple as to love and be loved. It is one of the ultimate stories of having extrordinary gifts and things but finding out in the end that they don't compare to the simplist things most people take for granted. Friendship, family, love... As for ALW's Erik, referring to the movie as I haven't had the pleasure of seeing the musical on stage, I love him because of his humanity. As was said before, we can't help but be sympathetic toward him and yearn to help him because he feels all these things we have all felt sometime in our lives on a much greater scale. Yes, he does horrible things, he kills, he manipulates, but we can't help but love him anyway because they are the fault of society's cruelty, the love and tolerance it never let him be taught, and I think we've all had a taste of how cruel society can be.
