Hallie huffed and paced back and forth. She was so upset at the moment, just so angry with everyone around her. She felt betrayed in so many different ways.

Darius was her first and foremost problem. She didn't get him. Even with her seer abilities, she found him harder and harder to read as the days passed. His parents were going to be parents yet again, which meant new siblings for Darius. He was quite frazzled by that, that much she could tell. And it had in turn made him rather irritated and snappish towards her, which did not settle well. Hal would not stand for him treating her that way. If he loved her, as his mind told her he did, then he shouldn't have taken his anger out on her like that.

Growling, she moved away from the spot she had been pacing in. There was a slight indentation of a line running through the ground, about three feet long. She blinked at it, but then quickly moved on.

Her second problem was Jaylin. Well, it probably wasn't so much of a problem as an annoyance. She felt betrayed, but not on such a level as she did with Darius. Her issue with her best friend was the fact that she had gone off and found herself a man. Just like that. Without even telling the other seeress. Just one day Jay came back with a male at her heels, talking about love.

What bullshit.

Reno, well, Reno hadn't done anything really. But he didn't matter right now. She was so mad at the people who had done something. So Reno was momentarily excluded.

And then there was her family. Her sister, Cassidy, and her niece, Eli, she didn't much mind at the moment. They were in Phib's lands, living a peaceful life. At least she hoped. Eli seemed to have a knack for getting into trouble. Which was why Hallie kept 'tabs' on her. Easy enough. But no, the family she hated the most at the moment was her grandfather and his little hooker. Carius and Aziz. She didn't care if they fell off the face of the earth. It'd do her a lot of good. Then she wouldn't have been marching back to them to tell them why she had been gone for so long.

Why did she have to tell them, anyways? It's not like they cared any. But for some reason, the female found herself slowly dragging herself back to Meskeet's lands, back to where Aziz and Carius were.

Damn.

So that was all why Hallie, the new seer on the block, was stumbling through the forest, grumbling and growling to herself. Attractive.

Occam stared at the sky, his neck aching from being craned in such an awkward position. But it was beautiful, and he didn't want to look away. That night he met Ravii, she had helped him face all of his fear, his torments.

But Ravii wasn't here. He hadn't seen her again since that fateful night. And now the only thing that kept the monsters, his memories, at bay was the sight of the beautiful, endless expanse of sky.

His ears flickered back as he caught a sound on the wind, coming from behind him. Turning his head, he watched the shadows between the trees, paws itching at the ground, creating little furrows in the dirt. If anything came out of those trees . . .

What he saw made him ease his stiff muscles a bit, but he still remained wary. He knew it was a femme from the scent on the wind, his nose twitching faintly. She was also very frustrated, and about ready to rip something apart. The way she was grumbling to herself was kind of endearing. Just so that she wasn't talking to herself because she was a few branches short of a full tree.

He'd had his share of crazy wolves. He didn't need to meet anymore. Hell, his own lack of sanity was enough to try his patience.

Staying completely still, he watched as she slipped from the cover of the trees, clearly not paying much attention to where she was going.

Hallie stopped, just after leaving the confines of the forest and its shady trees. She may have been delving deep into her thoughts, but that didn't mean she had let her guard down. Far from it. If anything, she had sharpened her senses, all of her senses, because she knew that she would have had to check her surroundings more often since she was emotionally unstable. Although, she didn't like to admit that she was.

Lifting her head, perhaps too soon than would have been normal for a wolf without her abilities, she narrowed her eyes at a figure not too far away. Another wolf. She didn't need to smell it to be sure that it was indeed another of her kind. Just the 'scent' that his brain gave off was enough for the seeress.

Searching his mind, remaining where she was, Hal shifted on her paws. Her gaze never left him, and she flowed in and out of his brain easily. Her skills as a seer had become easier and easier to handle as she used them. Thus, she took any chance she got to hone her skills and to test out new abilities. It was fun, even. At least sometimes. She did admit there were times she wished she weren't able to read the minds of others.

Monsters..

The word was nearly shouted within her brain. She folded her ears back, slightly in pain, and withdrew from the other's mind. That was when she started forward, her gaze slipping cooly over him. She didn't have anything to fear. Yet, that didn't mean that she barged in to his personal space and got in his face. No, she approached him as politely as possible, what with the bitchy mood she was in.

"How long have you been here?" she grumbled, although she didn't need to ask that aloud to learn the answer. Nonetheless, she thought she'd humor him. Or maybe herself.

Things were becoming increasingly difficult to decipher with herself lately.

The loner felt the oddest sensation when she looked at him, as if something were prodding at his brain. He shook his head as he would if a fly were pestering him, but the feeling didn't go away immediately.

He barely registered her question, and it took him a moment to answer. "Here, in this spot? Or here, in this area? A few hours the former, a few days the latter." Even though he knew he was screwed up, he still tried to retain the manners his mother had taught him, first and foremost those of being a gentleman.

Dipping his head in a slight bow to the femme, he told her his name. "Milady, I am Occam. May I inquire your name?" He wondered why she seemed so peeved, but refrained from asking. He had only just met her after all. For all he knew, she could walk right past him and never look back.

He just seemed to have that way with people.

Hallie knew that she had made him uneasy. It made her flinch, and she pulled a bit out of her emotional stress to really look at him, as if she had no powers whatsoever.

She noticed a broken heart rested upon his forehead. She wondered briefly if it was something to do with his history or even his destiny--as she had learned not to laugh at such things--or if it was mere coincidence that he had such a mark upon himself. Either way, she felt it wasn't his fault. But then, who was she to judge what was good and bad in someone else? The female shook her head, clearing it of all thoughts.

Knowing beforehand that he would have answered despite her replying to his questions, so she remained silent to await them. Nodding, she glanced around for a good moment. "I don't even know why I'm asking," she said fleetingly. "It's not like I own these lands." She laughed at that, a nervous laugh. She hadn't laughed in a while, and she wondered why she was at that particular moment. She hoped he didn't think she was crazy.

"Nice to meet you, Occam," she said, dipping her head as seriousness returned to her features. "I'm Hallie."

Looking into his eyes, she pushed herself back into his mind. She avoided the 'monsters' and instead looked within other parts of his brain. But she didn't delve too deeply. She understood that there were things most wouldn't want anyone else finding out. So she attempted to give them what privacy they were privileged with when they met 'non-gifted' wolves. But despite this, she found some sadness within him.

Frowning at him, the seer broke the gaze. "I'm sorry."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 11, 2007 6:47 pm

Occam blinked confusedly. What was she sorry for? She hadn't done anything wrong that he had noticed. But then again, his brain was so preoccupied that he wasn't sure of much these days.

"A pleasure to meet you, milady, but what are you sorry for?" he questioned, his rough, husky voice quieter than usual. Having never met a Seer before, he did not know that he was standing in the presence of one, although he felt that something about this femme was different. There was just something extra to her, something that he couldn't place. Was that why he was a little unnerved?

"And if it's not too bold of me to ask, is something troubling you?"

Aside from a slight wrinkle in her brow, she didn't look troubled, but he was troubled every waking and sleeping moment of his life; he just somehow knew when other wolves were as well.

What a lovely talent, he thought wryly to himself.

Hallie, tracing his thoughts, stiffened slightly. She had forgotten that he hadn't known she had traced his memories, or at least bits and pieces of them. She had felt something, something that he had felt long ago and probably still felt every once in a while, but he hadn't know that. So she had said something completely out of the blue, and so she'd have to find some sort of logical explanation.

"Oh.. I said I was sorry?" she mumbled, pretending to have forgotten what she had said just moments before. Then her eyes lit up, as if she had remembered again. "Oh, I was just sorry for... for being kind of unwelcoming to you," she finished lamely.

"I shouldn't have done that," she added on, half referring to her explanation and half referring to her meddling in his memories, although he would never know that.

When he asked her if something was troubling her, her eyes lit up for real. For a moment she wondered if perhaps he was a seer and had read her troubled thoughts. But the idea was quickly dismissed as she remembered that she hadn't heard the normal fizz that came when she was in the area with another of her kind.

"Only slightly," she replied quietly, hoping to avoid that subject. "Just some things." Eyeing him, she pretended to read his expression. "What about you?"
PostPosted: Sun Mar 11, 2007 9:05 pm

Nodding slightly at her decision to keep away from that subject, he looked off into the distance, his ice blue eyes growing slightly unfocused.

"I'm always troubled. Most times, I grow surprised when my mind is actually clear." There was a slight smile curving one corner of his maw, but it held no humor. He scratched at his left ear with his hind foot, trying to seem nonchalant. But finally, he couldn't stand the slight itchy sensation crawling over his skin in Hallie's presence.

"Milady, please don't take this wrong, but . . . " He seemed pained; in his head, asking such a thing was very rude and ungentlemanly. "What are you?"

Hallie eyed the other, almost not believing he could be able to drop a subject like that so quickly. But her proddings in his mind and the expressions on his face convinced her soon enough that he was true.

As he talked about him being surprised when his mind was clear, instead of the other way around as it normally was, she couldn't help but smirk slightly. She understood him, if only a little. Though, as she stood there with him, she couldn't help but feel as if his pains were worse. Her life really hadn't been so bad. But there were memories in his mind...

She pulled herself from his mind, cutting off any transference of thoughts. There were times she felt herself getting lost in another's mind, and if it was actually possible, she didn't want it to happen here with a complete stranger.

Lifting her head and looking surprised, Hal gaped at the other. "What am I?" she echoed, her voice taut. She looked away quickly, almost ashamed that she had allowed herself to be discovered so quickly. But she should have felt it coming. He had been feeling strange around her, an inexplicable unease. She had felt it in his mind, but she had foolishly tossed the feeling aside, deeming it unimportant to her. Now she realized the consequences of her actions.

Should she tell him? She supposed there was no running from it now, since he had asked the question directly. Taking in a deep breath, she lifted her gaze so that her piercing yellow eyes were looking straight into his.

The seeress stood like that for what seemed to be many minutes, before any reply was heard by the other.

"What do you think?" she asked him in his head.

Her voice rang like a clarion call in his skull, making him stumble in surprise and confusion. A slow ache started almost instantly behind his eyes and he wondered if this happened frequently.

"I've heard stories," he murmured, shaking his head. He could feel her, as if her paws were touching his brain. It was an even more unnerving sensation than the one before. "But I thought that's all they were; tales to frighten pups. Now I see I'm wrong, and Seers are real."

Occam lifted his gaze, intending on going right past Hallie's, but her eyes seemed to draw his. They had turned into a solid, molten gold, pupiless and shimmering slightly. It took all of his will power to look away, and when he did, his legs started shaking so badly he was surprised that he kept his feet beneath him.

Hallie heard her voice echo within his mind, and vaguely smiled. It faded only slightly as he said he had heard of stories. She held her breath, expecting the worse. She herself had heard stories as well, and she knew that some portrayed seers in a really bad light. She wondered what he had heard, but forced herself to stay out of his memories.

"We are real indeed," she spoke lightly, out loud this time. She knew three other seers, one of them being her best friend. She wondered how many others there were.

As he looked into her eyes, she held his gaze long and steadily. Ever since she had aquired her 'powers', she had found it easier and easier to stare. Sometimes she stared rudely, drifting off into her own thoughts without realizing, and sometimes she stared to be intimidating. Other times, she stared because she felt it allowed her easier access into another's mind. It was probably false, her theory, but it helped her mentally anyways.

When he looked away, she was concerned to see that he was faultering. Her powers was strong, and it seemed she had unsettled him.

Frowning, she rushed forward and nosed him hesitantly. "Please, don't worry," she fretted. "I..."

But there was nothing she felt she could do other than draw her mind away from his and also her body. She tucked her tail slightly and back away. She willed him to get better, but within her own mind. She didn't dare touch his again for fear of the damage she would do.

Occam shook his head, partially to clear it, and partially to reassure her. "I'm alright. It was just . . . odd. And I hope it's not something I have to get used to," he added, smiling slightly. It touched him that she actually fretted over his well-being.

No one had cared about him in so long.

But now he was curious. "Have you always had these powers? I don't mean to pry, and if I am, then please tell me, but I am curious."

The loner sat back on his haunches, his tail twitching slightly, one ear turned and trained for any sounds coming from behind him.

Half-assured that the other was fine by now, Hallie shifted her weight uneasily and pondered for a moment. She wanted to head back into his mind--it was a habit now, since she had made it a point to herself to get used to her powers--but she figured that would be the worst course of action at the time.

"Aah, I'm really not sure what it was. But, to be safe, I promise to stay out of your head," she whispered, as if it had been a sin to have been in his head in the first place. In a way, it was completely rude. She hadn't asked to look into his thoughts, to invade the most secret and sometimes most precious of places for a wolf. And, in a way, her tone was her attempt at an apology, as she had never been good at that sort of thing.

When he began to 'pry' in return, she didn't half mind. She figured it was only fair, for all the prodding she had done to him. But, still, she felt slightly uncomfortable. Hal normally made it a point not to discuss her powers, as they set her apart and sometimes made her feel like an outcast. But he had asked, and she felt obligated to share with him. So, swallowing her pride, she formed an answer in her mind.

"I haven't really kept track.. but it's been a while now, I think. Since I was an adolescent, at least. That's when I remember my... abilities... showing up."

Glancing up at him tentatively, she vaguely wondered if he wanted more information.
PostPosted: Tue Mar 27, 2007 7:48 pm

Shifting his paws, the loner cocked his head to one side. It was so odd, and almost surreal, this information she was giving him, but Occam was more intrigued than a squirrel trying to crack open a walnut. He had always loved to learn new things, and the stranger, the more fascinating.

"I suppose it can give you quite an advantage, being able to read another's mind. But do you ever regretting trespassing in another's thoughts?" He could think of a few wolves in particular that he wouldn't ever want to see their mind's up close and personal.

Hallie stood, outwardly tall and proud, but underneath she was squirming uncomfortably with anxiety. Normally she tried to keep her powers hidden from others, as it separated her like no other and outcasted her at times. Not everyone was so accepting or intrigued by seers and their powers as the wolf in front of her. Some would kill a seer if they had the chance..

"It could," she agreed hesitantly. "I suppose in a fight, I could scout the other's next move before they made it and make to avoid it. I don't know, I've never really used my... erm... abilities to take advantage of others before." It didn't feel right.

"Regret?" she whispered, ears folding back. Only every time she entered someone else's mind. The mind was a sacred place, private and closed. She felt as if she was breaking some taboo every time she read another's mind. But it had all become habit now, second nature, and she simply couldn't keep herself from probing.

"Sometimes, yes," she finally confessed. "Thoughts are meant to be private, and sometimes it doesn't feel right reading them.."

The seeress frowned and looked away, almost ashamed of herself.
