This is the journal of Zen, the eleventh Ikaji, and possibly the only pink panda in all of Gaia. Why are you in my house, reading Zen's personal diary? I don't know, but welcome anyway. If you're going to be here, there's a few rules you must follow.

-Rules-
1:
Do not post in this journal without permission.
2: Do not steal any part of Zen, art or concept. Mini works hard on the art, and I worked hard on Zen.
3: If you do get permission to post, stay in character. I like the fourth wall, I'd hate to see it broken. I find the Daisy Code to be a decent rule of thumb.

-Exceptions-
Every rule has it's exceptions, and mine are no different. Rule number one does not apply to the following: Mini Sparrow, the Ikaji mule, and other Ikaji owners. Rules two and three are invincible.

Follow all the rules, keep your hands and feet inside the car at all times, and we should be golden.

Name: Zen
Species: Pink Panda (Panda Hybrid)
Gender: Do you really have to ask?

Age: Teen
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 125lbs

Hair: Black, most of the time at least. Usually down, except for special occasions.
Fur: Pink and white with markings characteristic of her panda heritage. A heart shaped pink spot has recently developed right along her hip bone.
Eyes: Green

Clothes: Zen's style is eclectic at best. Her influences range from Hollywood to Harajuku and back again, and no two of her outfits are alike. She does enjoy accentuating her...assets, which may be why she favors her altered pinstripe vest so much. She prefers skirts to pants, possibly for similar reasons, and loathes anything that covers her heart. As far as jewelry goes, she tends to avoid it, except the brooch that her karma was bound to. She also has an inexplicable love of fishnet stockings.

Personality: Zen is quite opinionated. Whether it's a person, item, or current event, if she's heard of it, she probably has something to say about it. She may seem to lack moderation at times. If she finds you to be uninteresting, you're more likely that not to be completely forgotten. However, if she's interested (either positively or negatively) you'll definitely know it. Sometimes this makes her seem a tad blunt, but it's more of a personality quirk than an intentional insult. If pushed, she won't hesitate to get nasty, but more often than not she is quite (perhaps too) cheerful.

History: Zen is the product of Kuro's first (and probably last) attempt to organize his attic. Among other things, he found an antique brooch that he intended to have appraised. A few extraordinarily vivid and unmentionable dreams later, Zen emerged from the spirit world, pink blanket and all.

Karma: Passion
Item: Amethyst Brooch
Physical Effects: It's difficult to separate natural development from Karmic influence. It may have had a hand in her physical attractiveness, or it may be reflected in her heart-shaped patch. Then again, it may all be natural.

Powers: Zen's power is significantly more subtle than most. At this point, it seems she has but one power: subconscious emotion projection. This is quite a complex power, but the two most common effects are listed below.
The first is a sort of forced empathy. Whenever she experiences particularly intense emotions, those around her share at least a portion of it. The strong willed may not even notice, while the weak willed may be overcome.
The second effect has proven to be a bit inconvenient at times. It seems that Zen's high self-confidence and self-image is also projected along with her emotions, resulting in an aura of sorts. Anyone within this aura may become infatuated with her. As with the empathy, this effect varies with willpower, ranging from complete immunity to all consuming lust.
The first aspect of her power can be, with considerable concentration and effort, suppressed. There have been no advances in suppressing or even weakening the second aspect thus far.

Past Life: All documented glimpses of Zen's past life are listed below.

Kuro's First Dream
He'd thought this weekend would be boring. The meeting alone would have taken up most of his time, but it had been canceled. Fate had really thrown him a bone this time, this girl was really something. As if on cue, there she was. Stepping out of the hotel bathroom wearing nothing but a grin, the steam from the shower rolling out from behind her like a fog. He was speechless, but it didn't matter. There was no time for talking with her. That night was the stuff of legends, each time more passionate than the last. Even months later, when he got the diagnosis, he had no regrets. Kuro’s eyes slammed open suddenly, his trance broken. A dream? He hadn’t dreamed in an eternity. Dreams were for the sleeping. Something was most definitely not right.

Kuro's Second Dream
Kuro was quite confused. Not only was he dreaming again, but this time he was aware of it. It was the same hotel room as last time. The woman had already left. He didn't know how he knew it, but he did. She had been gone long before he woke up, and had taken all of her things with her. Not that she had brought much in the first place, just the clothes on her back. She had left one thing behind though. Looking down at his hands, he saw what she forgot: an antique brooch with a rather large Amethyst set in silver. Wait...he'd seen that pin before... It seemed he was doomed to a restless night. For the second time since nightfall, he reached over to turn on his lamp. After rummaging through his nightstand for a moment, he came across what he was looking for. The only thing of value he had found while cleaning out the attic: the very same antique brooch that woman had worn...

Kuro's Third Dream
Why a bamboo forest? He'd never even seen a living stalk of bamboo. Just one of the many oddities of this night. It had to have something to do with that brooch he'd found. With his family, even something as innocent as a brooch was suspicious. Kuro's introspection was cut short by a piercing cry from deep within the bamboo stalks. Inexplicably drawn to the sound, he picked his way through the bamboo, quiet as a stalking panther. A short distance into the forest, the stalks gave way to a large clearing, nearly a uniform circle. As he surveyed the clearing, a flash of blinding pink caught his eye. It went without saying that this was the cause of all the ruckus, the dream sense told him that much at least. Before he knew it, he was in the center of the clearing, staring down at a brilliantly pink bundle. As he reached down to unwrap it, a glint of metal caught his eye. It was an antique brooch, holding the blanket together, with a rather large amethyst set in silver... These dreams were getting out of hand, that brooch had tormented him this entire night. It wasn't worth appraising at this point, it had to be disposed of. As Kuro reached over to turn on the lamp for the third (and hopefully final) time, he noticed a bundle on his bed. A bundle wrapped in a blindingly pink blanket...

Zen's First Dream
The boy had gotten attached. She thought he might, but he had been so cute she couldn't help herself. He was a skydiving instructor. Plummeting through the air, nothing between her and oblivion but him and the straps. It had been amazing, well worth making her assistant cover her work for the week. That woman was so easy to bend it wasn't even funny. A wink here, a nudge there, maybe even a drunken snogging at the Christmas party, and she was ready and willing to do whatever she asked. She was getting off track though, she had to figure out what to do about the boy. Last weekend he had given her a stunning pin. At the time she’d thought it wonderful. The thing was adorable, and she had taken to wearing it wherever she went. Apparently it was his grandmother's though. That caused problems. Once the extended family was involved, things moved too quickly. He would bounce back, he was still young. She finished writing her note, then collected the few things she had left around his place. She would keep the brooch, maybe it would teach him something.

Zen's Second Dream
She had been careless. In the three days since the results had come in that was the only explanation she could think of. Somewhere down the line her judgment had been off, and now she was paying the price. AIDS... She'd thought it was just a gay man's disease, but the doctors said she'd had it for quite some time. They wanted a list of all of her partners, as if she would waste her time with that. There was no cure for AIDS, her days were numbered. All she could do was make the best of the time she had left. Maybe she'd go on another vacation. That stretch in Mexico had been nice. Maybe she'd take another skydiving class while she was there. That had been fun. She'd find a nice couple and spend a few weeks showing them the time of their lives. She wouldn't let the disease get the best of her. Fingering her brooch, she began writing in her notebook. Travel plans didn't make themselves, especially when the doctors kept hounding her about that list.

Zen's Third Dream
It had been that woman. It took some longer to come to this conclusion than others. A few didn’t even realize there was anything wrong until it was far too late. A woman in Mexico City lost her husband before she got suspicious. In the end, it didn’t matter when they found out. They would all die together, yet miles and miles apart. All of them, businessman and skydiver alike, were bound together by the invisible thread of her life. They had all met their demise in the same fashion, yet were all doomed to die alone, still questioning, barely suspecting what had killed them. This was her legacy, not one of glorious wistfulness, but one of cowardly murder. An adventurer and a deserter, a lover and a killer, they all died in one body, killed by that which their desires brought them.

Name: Kuro
Gender: Male
Species: Human enough.

Age: Late 20's, for all practical purposes.
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 145lbs

Hair: Bluish black or blackish blue, depending the light. Kept at a medium length, and usually a bit on the messy side.
Eyes: Hard to tell behind those omnipresent sunglasses.

Clothes: Kuro's style is a simple one. Comfortable, quality long sleeve button-up shirts. He usually drifts towards silk, especially in red and black. Pair one of those with a nice pair of dress slacks and some comfortable shoes, and you've got a typical Kuro outfit. Oh, and let's not forget his omnipresent sunglasses, no matter the lighting.

Personality: Kuro is, in one word, mellow. No matter the situation, nothing seems to phase him. He seems to eternally occupy the eye of whatever storm happens to be going on. This can be both a blessing and a curse. One moment he might be ignoring your excitement over some massive event, but the next he'll be offering valuable advice during a bout of pure and utter chaos. He's also quite lazy, but not in any normal fashion. He will spend hours on something to help him avoid work that would take him minutes. A perfect example of this lies in his family. Ending a line of nigh-immortal demon spawn just to inherit enough money to live in comfort isn't precicely...sane. He also has an odd habit of disappearing suddenly and at random.

History: Kuro comes from a very old family, in several senses of the phrase. Being the last surviving member of his line, he currently has complete control over the family fortune, though he does very little with it. At the moment, he lives in one of their "smaller" houses just outside of Durem, a simple three-story house, complete with attic and cellar, in the style of the area. Both he and Zen together only manage to take up the lower two floors, and the attic has been used for little else than storage for time unknown.

Heritage: Kuro's ancestry is complicated at best, but is more generally described as a clusterf***. His oldest traceable ancestors were socialites, powerful within the business and political worlds. Several generations of poor judgment, bad investments, and betrayal later, they were on the brink of social and economic bankruptcy. Their desperation led to a plethora of unscrupulous dealings, both corporate and mystical.
However, it seems that dealing with the darkness is a slippery slope. Not long after their return to power, the half-breeds began to appear in the family tree. Over the next few centuries, Kuro's family skyrocketed in power as they plummeted into inhumanity. Demons, vampires, the undead, pretty much every creature of darkness imaginable was incorporated into the bloodline in exchange for much-desired power. Over time, the questionable breeding took its toll. The older generations lived on, their life-spans extended by their abominable blood, but younger children were fewer and far between. Some didn't make it past birth, not designed for this world, while others were impotent, incapable of continuing the line.
After a while, only three remained, but the story of the other two is for another time. The third is what we're concerned with, Kuro himself, the reluctant demon and last heir. The only thing even close to a pure blood in the family for years unknown, and the one that ended their legacy of terror once and for all. The fact that he gained the family fortune, and thus the ability to live in luxury without labor for all of his (greatly extended) lifespan was just a perk.
