Now, I KNOW this is the right sub forum... I think.. Anyways, I was reading an old piece of Naruto Shippuden manga and happened to see two pages that IMMEDIATELY sparked my interest. It was of two gods, Raijin (God of Lighting) and Fujin (God of Wind). Raijin was on Sasuke's side of the page.. And Fujin was on Naruto's side of the page. My sis found the names of these two gods. :3

Anyways, I started researching the ancient Japanese Mythology.. *makes creep noises* And found out several... Interesting facts. :3 I'm gonna write an essay on this stuff.... Anyways... Susanoo... Sounds familer? Thought so or not so... It's one of the supposed attacks of the Mangenkyou Sharingan.

Amaterasu: Creates a ball of dark fire that burns for seven days and seven nights. This is also the goddess's name who inherited the heavens.
Tsukuyomi: Creates a very real illusion. Itachi used it on Kakashi. This is also the (uncertained gender) god/goddess's name who inherited the control of the night and moon.
Susanoo: Unknown attack/haven't seen it yet. It is also the name of the god who inherited the seas as well as full control of all storm precipitation (including hail and snow).

The first two you might know.. Anyways, in the time-skip, Sasuke wields the Kusanagi. There's an interesting story about this one, but if you want to read anything else and such... Click, on the contents pop up thingy, Susanoo and Orochi.

Some other Naruto relation.

Japanese mythology:
Jiraya was a warrior who used shapshifting magic to turn into a frog.
Jiraya's wife was Tsunada who used snail magic and could turn into a giant snail.

Jiraya had a student named Orochimaru, but he beame corrupt by evil snake magic.

Also Naruto's fox demon is an actual character in Japan's mythologies.

One of the reasons I love Naruto is because I love mythology, and Naruto has a chockful of mythology in it, along with historical references.

Myth 1: The Tailed Demons

The tailed demons in Gaara, Yugito, and Naruto, and the Isonade that Obito and Deidara captured all come from the legend of the tailed demons. As it is with the series, the tails represent the amount of power the tailed demon holds. There are even comparisons of this myth to the series.

Ichibi: called the Shukaku in both the myth and the series. As with the myth, the Ichibi had been sealed into a kettle in the series before it was sealed in Gaara.

Nibi: in both instances, the Nibi have a connection with women. The Nibi often disguises itself as an unpleasant old woman, and though Yugito in the series wasn't unpleasant, she was a woman (obviously).

Kyuubi: in both instances, this is the most powerful one. It's more powerful than all the tailed demons put together, and as Naruto is a wily prankster, the the Kyuubi is also regarded as the trickster, as are all foxes in Japanese mythology.

Myth 2: The Divine Siblings

In mythology, Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, and Susanoo are the three children of the twins Izanagi and Izanami.

Amaterasu, goddess of the sun, is parallel to the Mangekyou Sharingan technique that creates a black fire that can burn through anything, and lasts for seven days.

Tsukuyomi, god of the moon, is parallel to the Mangekyou Sharingan technique that creates a torturous illusion. In the illusion, there is often seen a black and white moon in the background.

Susanoo, however, is yet unseen, but it's been said that the Mangekyou Sharingan produces three jutsus, the most powerful of their respective kind. Amaterasu is the most powerful fire ninjutsu, and Tsukuyomi is the most powerful genjutsu. So it's speculated that the third technique is named Susanoo, and will probably be the most powerful taijutsu technique.

Myth 3: Team 7 As Deities

Wikipedia
Fūjin is the Japanese god of the wind and one of the eldest Shinto gods. He was present at the creation of the world and when he first let the winds out of his bag, they cleared the morning mists and filled the space between heaven and earth so the sun shone.

He is portrayed as a terrifying dark demon wearing a leopard skin, carrying a large bag of winds on his shoulders.

A legend of Chinese Buddhism states that Fūjin and Raijin, the god of thunder, were both originally evil demons who opposed Buddha. They were captured in battle with Buddha's army of heaven, and have worked as gods since then.

Raijin (is a god of thunder and lightning in Japanese mythology. His name is derived from the Japanese words rai (meaning thunder) and shin (god). He is typically depicted as a demon beating drums to create thunder.

In Japanese art, the deity is often depicted together with Fujin, the wind god.

As said by PeacefulLight-san said, Naruto is Fujin and Sasuke is Raijin, which corresponds to their respective chakra nature. As Fujin and Raijin are partners, Naruto and Sasuke are as well.

(Interestingly, in the Mizuki filler arc, Fujin and Raijin are fat, ugly, and unintelligent brothers who only care about stuffing themselves with food.)

Quote:
Konohanasakuya-hime commonly known as Konohana, in Japanese mythology, is the blossom-princess and symbol of delicate earthly life. She is the daughter of the mountain god Ohoyamatsumi. She is often considered an avatar of Japanese life, especially since her symbol is the sakura, or cherry blossom.

She is the wife of Ninigi. She met the god on the seashore, and they fell in love; Ninigi asked Oho-Yama for her hand in marriage. Oho-Yama proposed his older daughter, Iha-Naga, instead, but Ninigi had his heart set on Ko-no-hana. Oho-Yama reluctantly agreed and Ninigi and Ko-no-hana married. Because Niniji refused Iha-Naga, the rock-princess, human lives are said to be short and fleeting, like the sakura blossoms, instead of enduring and longlasting, like stones.

Sakura, of course, may be argued as based on Konohana indirectly. Sakura, being based on the flower, also symbolizes new life and change, and we see her blooming and changing through the course of the series.

Myth 4: The Little Myths

Inari: In Naruto, he was the young boy Naruto helped in the Wave Country arc. In mythology, Inari is an androgynous deity with foxes for helpers.

Orochimaru: In Naruto, he's the snake villain. In mythology, there is a monster named Yamata-no-Orochi, a eight-headed serpent that Susanoo eventually tricks.

The Legendary Sannin: Honaka-san said the right stuff, but they aren't actually from mythology - rather, they are from a folk epic. There's also a game like rock-paper-scissors, only it's snake-slug-frog, wherein the frog beats slug, slug beats snake, and snake beats frog.

The number 7: Team 7 is the central team in the series. 7, in several cultures, has been regarded as the most powerful number of all.

...

Did I help at the very least?
