Haine Otomiya is a 15-year-old high school girl who goes to an elite private school called the Imperial Academy. She was once a gang member, but this changed when she met Shizumasa Tōgū, who told her to live life how she wanted to. From that point on, Haine has worked to make her life better, and stopped being a gang member. She fell in love with Shizumasa and entered the Imperial Academy because of him.

Now, Shizumasa is the Koutei (Kōtei, literally means "emperor") of the school, which means that not only is he the student council president, but the one who everyone in the school looks up to. Through various circumstances Haine is tricked into becoming his bodyguard and joins the Student Council. Will Haine get Shizumasa to love her?

The main character of the story, Haine was actually born to the Kamiya family. In 4th grade she was sold by her real father and/or adopted by the Otomiyas. She is not exactly the smartest person in the world, but has a good heart. Back in her 9th grade she was a former " Yanki" or young delinquent but after she met shizumasa (her first love) Haine changed her ways so she could go to the same school as him and meet him again.

Shizumasa Tōgū (東宮閑雅, Tōgū Shizumasa)

The [Real] Koutei. He is revered by mostly everyone at Imperial Academy, and it certainly helps that his family is very rich and famous. Due to his illness, however, his twin brother, Takanari, is currently posing as him.

Shizumasa's older twin brother. Because of health problems, he is posing as Shizumasa as [Fake] Koutei, though no one knows this except Tōya. He has grown to love Haine. Takanari is the real author of the picture book "Shizumasa" drew. He hates his brother.

Haine's best friend, who is very protective of her. She seems to regard Haine as being more than just a friend, although Haine herself doesn't realize it. She is known as "Ajisai-no-Kimi" (紫陽花の君) by the boys at school. She dislikes social climbers, especially students in the higher ranks. She is also very knowlegable of japanese quotes and proverbs

Maora Ichinomiya (一ノ宮まおら, Ichinomiya Maora)

The treasurer of the Student Council and mailman of the school. Maora is really a male and is childhood friends with Maguri. His parents are fashion designers. He has a pet, a "mini-sheep" named Okorimakuri, who is the mascot for the series. Maora is also Mailman-san. When he was discovered he told Haine he loved her and challaged Shizumasa(Takanari) for the Koutei title, just so he could make Haine his lover. He failed, because Haine made him realize that he loved Maguri not her.

Maguri Tsujimiya (辻宮真栗, Tsujimiya Maguri)

Maguri is gay, and is friends with the Fake Shizumasa. At first he had a crush on Shizumasa but later falls in love with Maora. His family are yakuza members, but even then he has a soft side.

"Shizumasa"'s servant and one of his best friends. "Shizumasa" (Takanari) once said that Tōya is "the only person who understands me". He has a calm nature, and cares much about "Shizumasa"'s happiness. He is very polite and gets nervous easily.

The mailman of Imperial Academy, who is actually Maora. He works hard at his job, and portrays that he is interested in Haine. He has a cat with him in some parts of the manga.

Otomiya Kusame
Name Meaning: Grass + sprout

He is Haine's step brother. Secretly, he fell in love with her at first sight when Haine was introduced him, and refuses to call her "Nee-chan" for that reason. Kusame is a honor student and vice president of Imperial Academy Junior secton's Student Council.

Komaki Kamiya
Komaki is Haine's blood related little sister from the Kamiya family. She posed as Takanari Tōgū's fiance to protect Haine from being sent back to their father. Though proper and lady-like, she tends to have her moments of outburst. She harbors a love for Kusame.

Tachibana Kamiya
Tachibana is Haine's blood related little brother. Upon seeing Haine, he mistakes her as their mother because they are alike in appearance. Later he is rude to her until he finds out Haine is his older sister. He is the soon to be "head" of the Kamiya family as the only male heir.
