I was inspired by a song called "Cemetery Girl," and it led me to write a poem/story about how I want to bring my best friend to my old hometown and visit where my Great Grandmother Grace is buried, may she rest in peace.
It is my heartfelt opinion that the girl I write about in this piece is one of the only two people who could give me the strength to finally visit my Grandmother's resting place.
They walk hand-in-hand,
Through his old hometown,
Strolling past a cemetery,
As he proceeds to slow down.
He stops at the gate
"What's the matter my dear?"
She questions his sudden misery
"My Great-Grandmother lays within the soils here."
With an arm around his waist,
The young girl leads him up the path,
He then takes the lead,
Showing her where last his family as a whole had passed.
He knelt down and drew a hear in the plot,
She sat and tenderly embraced the boy,
He turned to the firl once the remembrance was completed,
"In my sad mourning, only you could bring me such joy."
The couple stood as their hands intertwined,
Together they stared into the sky,
She looked up at him with Magic in her eyes,
"Did you see the Grace in how that Angel flies?"
The boy fell to his knees,
And the tears instantly came,
"Honey?" He felt her warm embrace around him again
"Grace," Softly he spoke, "Is that Angel's name."
"You mean...?" She asked shakily
His words came gently "That was my Grandmother"
The Couple stood again as they both shed tears
And under the sun they held one another
The young couple headed back down the path,
Hand-in-hand with the sun on their back
They had witnessed a miracle in each other's arms
And on this moment they would always be looking back.
Saph? Would you go with me to visit Her, and give me the strength I need?
