I can beat a level 9 (handicap 6) computer without using items(without using handicaps myself) I haven't tried 7 or 8, but I'll try it later today. What about you guys?

I don't do handicaps. ....but I gotta tell y'all..... while most of you guys can sit there and slaughternate any computer at any level, I sometimes struggle. Comps cheat, have false-physics and can perform things no human can do, and if there's any weapons on, I have to quit because I HATE it when they stop, turn around, and idly jog to the healing items/cloaking device/hammer (if it's on)/pokeball..... I can beat nearly any human player because they have reaction times, styles of fightning, and can be outsmarted. .....I hate computer players.

Human competition is the only reason why you should even be playing Smash, anyway. Beating computers don't mean anything at all.

On the 64 version, the AI was SOOOOOO much more better and actually harder (not retarted and cheap like on Melee), but I could beat the computers so much easier on 64 then on Melee and my friends give me beef with it (they say I'm freakishly good against everyone else, but how I suck against computers adds to how weird it is). I can't help but feel stupid when someone can sit there and be the computer slayer of doom and I can't even beat a team of pichu, all Lv5 on Final Destination *cries*

I like to consider the unlocking of characters and stages to be an extended tutorial. You learn all the basics of the game, but you won't really become any good at it until you get to the main part: human competition.
