Welcome to the Something Wiccan Debate Club! If you love to have a good argument erm... discussion about anything controversial, from Scientific discoveries to the nature of the Divine, you're gonna love this! To me, debating has always been a great way to sharpen my mind, because it really makes you think about what you believe, and forces you to defend those beliefs! Let's all agree to play nice, though, children, we're all friends here, and this is a good, friendly debate, okay? Not that I'm too worried about any of you guys flaming, though!

Now, comrades, lets spark a debate!

Now, I don't want to start with anything too heavy... but hell! I will anyway.

Panspermia.

pan·sper·mi·a [pan-spur-mee-uh]
n. The theory that microorganisms or biochemical compounds from outer space are responsible for originating life on Earth and possibly in other parts of the universe where suitable atmospheric conditions exist.

Go ahead, think about it for a little while, maybe do some research, and tell me what you think! I know a bit about this myself, but I want to hear what your opinions!

i think it's possible.
I certainly don't agree with evolotion,so i would prefer that idea

Evolotion,i beilive it is responible for alot of things, but the inshall start of life,no

I don't see a way that your swimming in the ocean then oh! look my baby can go on land aswell!there is no inbetween
i think there must of been a varity of simple organism from different places, land sea..lots of different charastics, but simple organisms so they could still pro-create and have an a whole new varity...

I totaly believe that we are the result of a bacteria hitching a ride on a meteorite that landed in some mirky puddle in the middle of the Congo. I find it hard to put stock into the idea that we were a conception on the sixth day. I really love the CGI sequence at the end of "Mission to mars" it is really moving. It is almost obvious that our ancestors were single cell bacteria. Humans in the past 2 millenia have grown and spread. We have bred to staggering numbers and have consumed our resorces at alarming rates. Just like a ravishing virus we have consumed and festered. It came to me just what a parasite humans are as I flew over the Sieras (Eastern Calif.) in to SFO. The beauty of the snow capped Mountains, and the crystal blue lakes were breath taking. I was over whelmed by the majesty of our sacred Earth Mother. As I came into the Stanaslaus valley, I could see the scars of humanity on the skin of our Mothers flesh. As I got closer and closer to the Metropolous of S.F. I came to the realisiation that we are a foriegn object on the planet. As the sky scrapers and concrete came into view, it was remanisant to a melanoma. This giant tumor of festering cancer on the tip of what used to be a beautiful penninsula.... It kinda saddens me to know that we have become the Bane to our dear Mother. If we could return to the respectful ways of the Native Americans. We might be able to halt our self destruction. Or prehaps that would be the best thing for this planet. Allow the meek to inheirit the earth.

As for me, as soon as I heard this theory, I thought, "this is it. None of that primordial soup puking out the first life crap." I had to look into it. Turns out asteroids are mostly made of ice, and possibly peppered Earth not only with life, but with water as well, depositing it bit by bit as the eons went by.

It is true that humans are now abusing the Earth, and most of those who know don't really care, giving the lamest of excuses: I won't live to see the result. However, a person can't just come and go, leaving nothing but their garbage and negative views behind for the rest of us (and by that I mean the younger generations, of which I am only vaguely proud to be a part of, but that's a different rant...) to contend with. But I must say I do not agree that humanity is a cancer, for one reason only.

Cancer has no cure.

I still hold some hope, despite my apparant cynicism.

How about the world changing. Do you believe the Aztecs whom say the world is going to change and if so how do you think it will change.

Christians believe that Christ will return and the world will change. Those not worthy will sufure and parish.

I personally believe that the world will shift and humans will be thrown back to how we used to live. All technology will be disabled, we will live off of the land, and will become, once again, connected to the earth the way we should be. Also that those who can't survive, won't and aren't meant to. This will clear the world and start humans over again.

What do you guys think?

That's an interesting theory... but not one I quite agree with. Doomsday theories, huge global changes, everyone in every generation has had some sort of belief in something like that, and yet it never happens. I think it's almost like a mental security blanket, in many different ways. To some people, it would make them feel important. "Oh, I'm in the last generation of mankind. I'm speeecial!"

Others see it as a loophole from responsibility. "Why should I care about the environmnt? The world's gonna end anyway!"

Bleh. To me it seems very self-important to assume that the worlds gonna have big changes, and they will just happen to occur during my lifetime. I mean, sure, eventually something big is gonna have to change, but in this lifetime? No.

Not unless we don't do something about global warming, of course.
Or that comet in 2057.

That's a good point and I really doubt it will happen any time soon too. But I firmly believe it will...eventually...=/

I agree something will eventually change but i find it a sad that people have to beleive that the end of the world has to come for it too happen. I think a lot of the worlds leaders need to come to terms with the fact that change starts at home.
