The man should be bludgeoned and eviscerated before he writes again.
HE MUST BE STOPPED!

As I said in the other Sequal thread, it's going to be from Phantom of Manhatten. Just what Webber changes, we can't be sure of yet. But I hope to God he doesn't make Erik a gold-lusting clown-masking wearing bimbo-butt like Forsyth did in the book.

Don't forget that loathsome little crotchspawn, Pierre. *shudder* As if there aren't enough Erik/Christine sue-children in fanfic.
And it's hardly new news; Webber was working on it back before the movie was made, but abandoned it after debuting just one song. Search Youtube for 'The Heart is Slow to Learn' to hear it.

~sigh~ If he's going to write more PotO, can't it at least be a prequel? That might actually be kinda interesting.

That, is very true. ALW did write a song and presented it at his 50th birthday celebration. He was thinking of using it for a POTO sequel. I think that was in 1998.

If he does so, it better be entirely different than that disgustingly Erik-degrading jibberish. I agree-- A prequel would be most amusing. Perhaps Susan Kay style?

You mean "The Heart is Slow to Learn"? Yeah. Personally I think that was one of his worse songs. It's just the singer repeating the title phrase over and over. The melody isn't that great either.

Yes, I agree. You would never think that ALW would have written that. Most of his songs are so unique and memorable, but The heart is slow to learn was terrible. The same goes for Learn to be Lonely. I hated that song from the movie for POTO. It did not fit in.

Even the meaning of the song is vague for the musical, which Webber really took a chance for. I think there's just so much you can write for one subject/coupling and that he's running dry, which might be half the reason why he quit his idea for the sequal 10 years ago. I'm not too sure whar grabbed him by the testicles this time, but he seems far more determined. I'm just hoping he's halfway wise and kicks out the things Forsyth did that us phans don't like about the book.

Phantom was the last good show Webber did.
Well at least he's admitting that the plot has problems... that's a good sign. On the other hand, he's still working with Forsythe, who we know has absolutely no respect for the source material.
I think the Phantom movie gave him an ego trip, personally. It boosted the takes for the stage show a bit and got him all those squealy new fangirls, so he thinks it's time to drag out the old sequel and try to recapture his success with the original show.

Which won't happen. If Disney has taught us anything, it's that sequals don't live up to the originals and basically flop.
