After reading this here thread, I started thinking to myself, 'Wtf is up with Gaians nowadays?' I mean, the worst thing the guy said was, 'stfu'. He didn't even START it. All he asked was what was about the Halo 2 deal. Evidently by the looks of that thread it wasn't the creator of the thread that was stupid. It just annoys me to no end when people force their beliefs on other people. Why can't we all get along and just give each other a little nudge in the right direction? gonk

Yeah, the guy had butchered the English language, but does that make him stupid? No, I don't think it does. Nowhere in the dictionary (Got my definition offa dictionary.com) does it say, 'Smart - literate'. I mean they acted like HE was being the total jerk first. It's like, like.. >_<

So.. here's my question... Do Gaians (And I dunno.. every other part of the internet?) think that being literate makes them superior to illterates or something? neutral

Unfortunatly yes alot of people do belive that and in some cases and situations it's true, but not often enough for people to be so egocentric and rude over the fact that they spell better than other people. sweatdrop

And that is why I always warn people not to use txt speech, or try to use correct spelling, since people do like to insult people at any given chance. sweatdrop

I think that being able to type a sentance without having every word misspelled may make you seem smarter than others. I personally don't care, unless they overdose on the smilies, and have no logic.

All I have to say is that I hope Vice_Master04 will never be a paladin. >>;

New breed of Gaians? gonk Where's the love? I mean, why do people make such a big deal of spelling? >_< If that thread was person to person talking, not typing out letters, they wouldn't even be able to tell! I mean, 'plz' and 'please' are pronouced the same!

Okay, here's my view. Poor spelling smacks of lazyness. I'd really prefer if you take the few extra seconds to spell things out correctly.

But I'll still respect your opinion if you don't. Poor spelling doesn't make you a blithering idiot. You have to prove yourself a moron in another way for me to label you unintelligent.

I don't like people who can't spell, but I do my best to remain tolerant of them. Proper spelling and grammar has always been one of my very dearest academic values, likely because I have always been so proficient in it myself. There likely have been times I've gotten on people for their bad spelling and/or grammar, but it's usually when they're already morons to begin with.

In this particular case, it's just irritating to have to work to comprehend what he's saying. Were I dealing with this fellow, I probably wouldn't have been quite so rude, but I would have definitely commented on the complete and utter lack of spelling/grammar ability.

I'm quite glad people make such a "big deal" of spelling, Bap. It shows that I'm not the only person my age who is genuinely concerned about the utter disregard so many youths are showing for proper grammar/spelling knowledge. If the schools won't challenge them to maintain proper skills in these areas, then *somebody* should.

If the guy cant lift a few more fingers to type legibly, that means to me he's lazy (unless in the small instance hes foreign).

I dont ask for perfect grammar or punctuation or capitalization. I dont even do it perfectly. But at the very least I:
1) Use paragraphs!
2) Use Punctuation at all....and dont overuse it (see the most recent mr Period from Penny Arcade)
3) Seperate sentances.
4) At least *try* to spell.

It's a common courtesy to do things like this if you want people to read what you type and respond.

If you get a guy who either says 'omg i now i typ liek dis, n i dont care!!1!!' or 'so i tipe lyke dis, so wat? it makes my scool papers hard!!!' it pisses me off.

First guy cause he knows he's typing like an asshat and he doesn't care.
Second guy cause of the above reason and he gives a half-a** excuse.

Then you get gems like the moron from the 'Square going in the wrong direction' thread: http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4361200

Yeah, he might end up as one because before the Paladins were alot better, we only took the high quality but now it's different.
So I guess our Castle thingy isn't that good. >_<;

Well, maybe it does show that they're lazy, but maybe it only shows that they're lazy on the internet? I mean, it's not like they don't use proper grammar. They just might not use it on the internet. For all we know, they could have an 'A' in English. It's still not a reason for people to bite their head off, right?

Lazy on the internet is still lazy.
But no, it's not a reason to bite their heads off.

But like I said, if they want people to take them moderately seriously, make the damn thing legible. I'm not looking for perfection, just something I can read without having to pause every 3 words to decipher what they're trying to say.

If I point out that they may want to make it more legible (in a kind way) and they get shitty with me, I think it's only fair that I call them on it.

While Vice Master was pretty off-base, it -was- a repeat thread, that he could have easily found the answer to on his own.

That, and the kid was born in '88. That means he's 16, about? There's really no excuse for him to be -that- poor in spelling and grammar unless he has a serious learning disability. My brother can spell better than that, and he's in sixth grade... and not exactly the brightest crayon in the box.

I hate it when people say that they don't care about their spelling, because 'they don't care what people think about them'. rolleyes The media has kids so focused on 'being an individual' that even the English language is up for grabs to be horribly butchered.
