[Cecil, 0%, unaware]

Cecil walked around the bright, sandy beaches of the island. He looked up to the sky, the sun was bright, as most islands should. Not like the city wasn't or anything, he just wasn't used to an island, considering it was still winter. The seventeen year old sported a light gray sweater with a large yellow line going across his chest and a pair of jeans. Unfettered dirty blond hair poked this way and that. there was a large, knit scarf around his neck. The kid wasn't exactly prepared for tropical weather. He also wore a pair of thick rimmed emolike glasses. Cecil smiled, a cure to his Laryngeal cancer and an island vacation? The offer was too good to refuse, it's the least his dad could do to make up for the mess he put him in. How long has it been since he found out? Four, five years? He gripped his neck for a moment, and let go. Soon enough, he'll finally have it back.

((Marty 100% - Thorny Devil))

Marty paced aimlessly around the island. He was lost deep in thought. Not the kind of thoughts that most of the other islanders would have though. None of that , why me, how is he doing this, how will I cope stuff. Marty's thought's were stuck on one thing. How he wsa gonna go Keanu on Moreua and win himslef some internet rights. How long had it been now? He'd lost track, but it was definetly far too long. Taking Marty from his beloved internet is not a wise move, especially when you then give him sharp spines to get it back with.

His aimless pacing eventually led him to the beach. As he walked down the shore, dodging waves, he became aware of someone else nearby. He looked up and saw someone in a sweater and with a scarf. His first thought to this was a resounding "Heh?" That thought stuck. So being the 1337 ninja he was certain he was, he snuck up behind the odd-sweater-lad and let out a loud, "What, may I ask is with the sweater my good sir? Tis quite hot here. Arn't you, like, imploding from the shear intensity of the heat?"

Cecil looked back to see the source of the voice. He instinctively grabbed a small notebook from his pockets and a pen, and wrote down,

Yeah, well, it was pretty cold in New York when I left. He finally saw who spoke and showed him the text. That's when Cecil got a good look at them.

The kid had one look at the man. He raised an eyebrow and took a step back.

Okay, this man was... Wow. Cecil was used to weird, the city had all brands of weird, from manga Japanese weird to tattoos and piercings weird, he's seen them all.

But nothing like what was in front of him. There were... Scales... and spines... it was like another episode of Ripley's Believe or not. Cecil took another step back, and withdrew his notebook, his face showing a mix of fear and morbid curiousity, he seriously didn't know whether to look back or keep staring.

He made a small wave, the expression still on his face.

Seeing Cecil's expression, Marty said this, "That's an interesting expression. It due to my severe awsomeness, my severe freaky-to-most-people looking-ness or have you not heard about the island yet." Gawd Marty hoped it wasn't the last option. He had been the welcome wagon for way too many already. He was tired of the whole "Hi, you're doomed, muahaha shpeel.

It was then that he saw the notebook. Seeing the notebook, he said, "Heh? What's with the notebook?"

Okay then, This person.... For lack of a better word, was crazy too. He didn't mind crazy, really, you should see some of his friends, Cecil welcomed things like that. It's just, when you have horn-spine-things growing all over your body along with scales, you just have certain inferences about them. Cecil took a tenative step forward, and wrote down in his notebook,

Mute. He had wrote, as if that explained everything.

A line skip, and there was more, Is that a costume or something?

That was Cecil's first thought after his intial reaction. It seemed logical enough, perhaps this man just had fun donning some make up and stuff and scare people around here, nothing but a prank, right?
PostPosted: Sun Mar 04, 2007 6:45 pm

"Mute? Ah, I get it now." he said, reading the note, "And no, ain't a costume. Judgeing by the fact you thought it was, you obvioulsy havn't heard the truth yet. Hokay, quick overview of the status quo. Everyone here is like this. Anthropomorphic creatures, turned into them by one Dr. Moreau. You can't get off the island and you've probably already gotten your first of the 5 syrum injections already. Escape equals no syrum which equals cancer which in turn equals pwnerization. There we go, now that that's over with, hi, I'm Marty." he said, extending a clawed hand.

Cecil's face turned from limbo between fear and curiousity to complete confusion, he frowned a little. The mute scribbled in his notebook again.

Wait, what? He had wrote, Anthro what now?

His eye twitched, and he felt his arm, and he found himself praying that this guy liked to dress weird and act crazy. To be told that there wasn't any cure for this wretched cancer would be the worse thing to say to him. The kid's writing did the rest of the talking.

So... That cure? Cecil didn't say anymore, this was all a trick, at least, that's what he got from this man, he still didn't trust him. Why should he take facts from a guy who was obviously crazy? He crossed his arms and rolling his eyes giving him a skeptical look. After a few moments of thought, Cecil unfolded his arms for a second and put a few words down.

You're messing with me, this is just some prank. A glare followed when he held out his notebook.
PostPosted: Sun Mar 04, 2007 7:12 pm

"Anthropomophic. Means Critter/Human hybrid. It is actually quite possible that your cure he promised you, will be given. He usually follows through on those sort of things, just in unorthodox ways. Kinda like that short story with the monkey paw that granted wishes but in the worst possible way that gave me nightmares."

Cecil's final comment annoyed Marty a bit. Denial. "Does it seriously look like I'm wearing a costume?" he said. "And even if I was, one of this quality would cost thousands of dollars, dollars I don't have. And if I did, I would've boughten a stormtrooper costume instead. Listen. Denial is to be expected, but don't drag it on. Okey Dokey? Denial time ends.... now." He snapped his fingers.

Cecil's eye twitched again, this man was just messing with him now. He put what he wanted to say on paper.

So you're saying there's a cure, but I'm also going to turn into Cecil didn't bother to finish the sentence, the whole idea of this, it was absurd! Even if the man was right, what kind of person would do that? Seriously! It couldn't be real, but if this wasn't real, did that mean the cure wasn't either? The kid let out a frustrated sigh and gave the man another glare. He wrote down,

This is serious, I'm used to hearing bad news, but what you're saying is ridiculous. Is there a cure or not? And don't give me this "Unorthodox" crap either.

"Hokay, here's the dillio. I can't guarenty anything, except for the fact that you're gonna turn into an animal, but if Moreau said he'll give you back your voice, which is what I assume he told you, he probably will. He's grown back peoples' arms. If he says he can do something, he can, and most likely, will."

Cecil frowned, and looked at Marty for a moment. Then he put down a few more words, he gave the man, who he believed didn't have a costume on now, the notebook.

So the doctor... Is turning people into animals to cure people? WTF?

Oh come on, you really didn't expect Cecil to write in whole sentences all the time.

He sat in the sand, the kid didn't know what to say, not like he could anyway. This was what this cure was? He was going to end up an animal-person like that crazy lizard man? He didn't blame the guy for being crazy, if he grew thorns and scales, Cecil would probably go insane by the end of it.

He put his legs to his chest and wrapped his arms around them and let out a sigh. He buried his head into his thighs, tears slowly dripping down his eyes. Cecil snapped his fingers and put a hand out, wanting his notebook back.

"Well it's not all just to cure people." he said as he handed Cecil back his notebook. "Take me for example. I was told that this was a university. That's why I came. Nothing wrong with me, although some might disagree." Marty grinned. "Don't worry, be happy. That's my philosophy. You gotta work with the cards you're delt and if those cards are really a crazy doctor with wierd syrums and the intent to turn you into an animal then so be it!"

"Besides, you gotta look at the positives. You're on a beutiful tropical island, and your vacation ison't gonna end. S'all inclusive, buffet, rooms, and free stuff at the touch of a button. Never gotta work again. In my mind, that's about as paradise as it gets, except for the whole animal thing, but you get used to it."

Cecil wrote in his notebook.

Look, don't give me that "Get used to it" speech, I'm no stranger to life changing events, it takes me a while.

See this?

The kid threw his notebook back at Marty, he held out a hand, as if saying, "Wait a second."

Cecil unraveled his scarf slowly, rolling it around his hand. When he was done, he turned around and pointed to his neck, there was a small hole the size of a quarter in the middle of his neck. He stood up, and snatched the notebook from the lizard man's hand, he gave him a glare, his eyes a bit swollen from his crying.

He wrote down furiously, Doctors had to remove my Larynx to keep me from choking to death, you think this is hard for me? Believe me, I'm used to this kind of "Your life will change forever" Crap. His brow furrowed, doing his best to hide his sadness with anger.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 05, 2007 4:46 pm

"s**t" thought Marty, "Now what? Return the anger or supply compassion?" For a brief, rare moment, Marty was speechless.

"I'm sorry. But even so, it is true, this is a major change, quite likely even more so than any other anyone could experience." "On a side note," he said, changing his voice from compasionate to more stern, "Don't complain about your life's troubles. Most of us wouldn't be here if something hadn't gone horribly wrong at one point. Take me for example. I lost both my parents when I was 3, spent my entire life living out of an RV, never staying anywhere for more than a few months. I have never had a best friend. You're not the only one here who has experienced tragedy."

I wasn't asking for your sympathy, and I wasn't asking for your life's story either. Cecil wrote bitterly, sitting down on the sand again. He let out a sigh, and there was silence. He was too busy thinking to worry about anyone else now.

So this was it, he was going to spend the rest of his relatively unworn life as a freak of nature. Goddammit! His life was ruined even more than before, thanks to some mad doctor and the miracles of science.

Cecil slapped some sand around in thought. This was all his father's fault, if he didn't smoke in the first place, he wouldn't have this condition, and he wouldn't have to be here right now! Now he was in a totally new mess, when he got back... Well, if he got back anyway, he'd take the time to punch his father a few times in the face. The lizard man said something about not being able to get off the island... Cecil mentally shrugged and looked to Marty, the kid doubted that the man would want to leave the island even if he had the chance.
