Usha yawned and stretched out his dark paws, unrolling from the little dip in the land he'd found to nap in. His bright eyes blinked open and he realized he didn't quite know where he was. No big deal, really! He grinned to himself and started to move along the savanna, tail tip flicking back and forth.
What to do on this beautiful night? He glanced toward the stars.

How many sleepless nights was Laini to be cursed with? She released a groan as she rose, restless. This was unpleasant: being sleepless. It was almost just as bad as not knowing what to do with oneself. She began to pace, fuming at herself. Give her a couple hours and she'd probably pace an open space into the grasses of the savanna.
...Not that she had any reason to be afraid of doing such. She was the biggest, strongest thing out here. Nothing could harm her. Of course, if they tried... well, it'd prove for some excitement.

Ushau did not notice the female at first, in fact he was much more content watching some of the fireflies buzzing about. Why couldn't butterflies glow so nicely and come out during the night? Though when he glimpsed a silverish color his neon gaze fled away from the sky and darted around the grasses.
It wasn't hard to spot the adult lioness. He grinned and headed that way. "Evening my lady." He called, it was easy to mimic the fancy birds and the way they spoke around the savanna. 'good evening' instead of 'yo'. It was just more fun to say!

Auuggg! Not even pacing was making her feel any better ...or less restless for that matter. But there was little she could do in the dead of night. Hence the 'aug'. Well, some god - if there were gods - was listening because a juvenile approached her. She had yet to decide whether the god who had heard her was good or evil. The last juvenile she had met had been a determined one but it had taken time for Laini to find her tolerable. Maybe this one would be different? Regardless, it was something to pass the time. Laini stopped her pacing to look at him.
"Evening," she replied with a slight bow of her head. She could be more polite if she tried. Obviously, she didn't. Laini closed in the gap between them, feeling the need to see more than just a dark shape.

His bright eyes floated over her body curiously, ears perking more. "Does the lady have an ache?" He said slowly, looking puzzled. "Or perhaps is restless?" Yes adults paced when they were tired too.. right?
It didn't seem to put him off the blunt 'evening' as if she wished to have no farther conversation... no, Ushau was just bored.

Lady? She almost wrinkled her nose at the thought. But she couldn't really blame the kid. Maybe politeness had simply been instilled in him. Had he been an adult she might have scoffed at him. It seemed to her all youths were relatively naive and innocent. With a huff, she decided to answer his innocent question. "Just restless. Should you really be out here all by yourself? What if I was a cannibal and desired to eat you up? Afterall, I hear younglings are absolutely delicious." She leaned close as she said so and wiggled her eyebrows as if to emphasize her meaning. If she could scare him with it, it'd certainly add to her night."

His eyes narrowed after a flicker of fear did pass through them and he moved back slightly. Maybe he should leave, she wasn't very amusing at all.
"If you were a cannibal I hardly doubt you'd be waiting this long to eat me. Unless of course you were sick an twisted.." He let those words linger for a minute, to hint that he did think that of her just then. "And why shan't I be out here alone?" He arched one brow, mimicking her. "Young I may be but I have chosen this adventure to go on, so age really doesn't come into play here. If I was older... old enough to be out here 'alone' you'd still try and eat me if you were a cannibal, right?"

So... he thought there was the possibility that she was sick and twisted? Meh, she mentally shrugged her shoulders. She didn't care that much what he thought about her. "I might choose to eat you if you were older," this time she shrugged visibly, "but I have to admit, the meat'd be a lot tougher to chew. The younger, the more tender it is." It wasn't necessarily a lie. Younger prey was easier and more tender than older but youths per say usually weren't as fleshed out as adults. She had to admit, though, the tone of his voice when he mentioned being older and out here alone did amuse her.
"But alas, I sadly forgot you're old enough to take care of yourself. When you're as old as I am everyone younger looks so young that you forget." That could easily have been taken as an insult so she carefully crafted it not to sound like one. Didn't mean he wouldn't end up taking it as one anyway. It was quite true that she did forget what one was capable at such an age, what she had been capable of. Then again, she also fancied that she had been the only one that tough at that age. Apparently she was wrong ...or he was hinting at exaggerated strength.
"What sort of adventure brings you out here alone at your age anyway?" she asked, furrowing a brow.

He took a deep breath while he listened to her words, he really didn't like battling wits with someone older and more experienced, he knew there was a good chance he'd end up the loser. Actually he didn't even like mind games with those of his age, he just liked senseless conversation most of the time and goofing off!
"You must be ancient then because I am quite young." He said as a 'witty' reply to what she was saying. He wasn't ashamed that he was young and he didn't think very highly of lions who were always pointing this out.
Oh crap. What kind of adventure... so honestly he hadn't really been on one. But life was an adventure wasn't it? "I was scoping out the area.." He said slowly. "My best mate and I have to scavenge tomorrow and it's better to know the territory than get lost in it.."

Laini perhaps wasn't as considerate of body language and tone of voice as she probably should have been. What she was trying to get out of this meeting was a selfish desire to be entertained, not so much any other way. Even if she couldn't "win" she still liked an entertaining battle of words. But that dropped out beneath her.
"Yea, ancient; let's go with that," she said scrunching her face. "Eh, when you get the chance, you should go hunting. It's a lot better than scavenging." Her interest level had just dropped a little. Then again, maybe it was just her ego interfering just a little. "But I suppose scavenging is a good start." She was rambling now? Unlike her. Must be that it was night, her brain finally functioning as a groggy one would.
((yea, I think I just killed this >>;; sorry))
