Lately I've been looking around for some neat ideas on items that Pagans could use. Feel free to post your ideas. If you're looking for insense without the smoke: Try this! I bought mine at a local Winn-Dixie for about 4 dollars. You pour the oil into it, set it on a lightbulb and turn on the light. Here's another idea, this one for an alter. On an alter, the candle does not have to be lit for it mostly stands for the representation of fire. (Unless you're working on a spell or ritual) Wouldn't you like to have that candle lit but not worry about fire? This is called the Flameless Candle. I bought mine at Bed Bath and Beyond for ten dollars. It requires only batteries and flickers just like a real candle. It also looks amazing on the alter. They come also in small tea lights, some of these change color. (About 7.99) Aila-al-Jehan gave me some good ideas too for those on budgets. I'd really like it if she gave some on this thread.

Hm. Those are neat. But the whole point of using candles and inscense (atleast how I see it) is that you are using the elements to invoke magic. Smoke is air and fire combined, and the candle flame is obvious.
If you are just getting something that smells nice and looks pretty, that kind of defeats the purpose, eh?

Oh, geez, now I have to remember the things I told you. XD
Ok, well, lets see here. Herbal teas like those in celestial seasonings are usually good sources of herbs, especially if they're pure ones like the peppermint. However, there are certain teas that, with a little intent, can be used as is for a mixture. Like, say, Red zinger. Its a hot, fruity (at least I think so) hibiscus tea thats fortified with tangy orange, luscious rose hips and invigorating peppermint. I'll give you three guesses as to you can use THAT for, and the first two dont count. wink You can get these at any supermarket or health food store.
On the note of health food stores, my local GNC carries candles, essential oils, and various forms of relaxation/better circulation suppliments to help you get your energy going. Check yours, maybeh?
Well, there's also the issue of stones. Now stones for metaphysical purposes are often sold mostly in your local religion/metaphysical store, but quite often, the religion stores either have no labeling and have no IDEA what theyre selling or the selection that thye not only have and is labled, well, sucks. Yes, it does suck, so I advise to find yourself a big book of stone identifiers and go find them yourself. Also, your local craft store just may have beads made of semi-precious stones such as amythest, flourite and magnetite. Scence stores and gift shops for museums also hold a wide variety of stones and magnets.
Candles are some of the easiest to find and use. You can get them at home making stores, health stores, metaphysical stores, religion stores, most african-heritage stores, 99 cent stores... the list goes on. However certain colors are only availuable in specialized stores (never seen a black candle in a 99 cent store) and most candles they sell outside of specialty stores are scented, sometimes with some of the NASTIEST scents money can buy.
Fabric stores are great places to get alter cloth material, poppet material if youre into that stuff, or just material to make stuff that you can use solely for your psychic endevors. Its usually pretty cheap. Where I go you can get a cood yard of velvet for, like, 5-7 bucks. Its cheap aroud here. razz
You also don't need full out journal to keep record. your computer will do, and since i don't think any of you pay the electricity, I don't think it'll cost ya much.
Now, considering the fact that I can't remember most of the things that I told 'Germicide, I shall leave this post be. XD
Oh, and by the way, as much as yes, the candles and incence are meant to promote evokation of fire and air elements, this is not always necessary. Flameless candles are not only practical for those who are "too young to be trusted with FIE-YAAH", but they show the elements that youre doing the best you can to hoor them without being reckless. Plus, visualization and pretending will do. Same with the incense, which is mostly for just scent anyway unless it has an actual purpose to it, like if it was incense magick.

Yeah, I have to use the flameless candles. I'm only 14, and when I started doing Tarot (almost a year before I became Wiccan, both my parents knew my interest in Tarot, they bought me the cards), I wanted candles, since lightbulbs aren't very mystic-like and kinda ruin it. They said hell no I'd have to get fake ones. So I did. xd Although on top or in front of them, I typically put a candle of the proper color for the spell or ritual, but I don't light them. I think that the reason it works is that the gods know you're trying your best without disobeying your parents. Typically, as I turn on the fake candles, I say something to the gods about that this is the best that I can do and to please accept it in place of a real candle. Same with the chalice- mine is made of clay and looks like crap, but it holds the water! xd

Something that is good about sympathetic magic is the symbolism. A light still represents the light and heat a flame gives off. Heating oil still gets an air element as it vaporizes. I have heard some wise magicians who say that if the circumstance calls, you can draw a flame on a piece of paper to get the essence of what you need represented. This is something that bugs me. Telling people that there is only one way to do things, and that some things are "wrong" if it is not done the way that someone learned.

Wow! I got quite the response!
Yeah, Each night I turn on the candle and watch it.
Also! Easter eggs on your Altar!! Spring is coming and the eggs of Easter are actually a PAGAN symbol of Spring's fertility!!
Thanks Aila-al-Jehan
You also mentioned that dolls are good ways of representing the God and Goddess. Those who knit and make doll clothing can also use creativity.

Never said that it was wrong. And yes it is symbolic as such. But for me, I personally wouldn't use them other than to look pretty.

Gradually I've been working on "tea correspondences" for the solar festivals (sabbats) and like to prepare a cup of tea at rituals. I really favor loose teas over bag-tea, however but not everyone lives in an area where loose tea is available. I believe that Teavana does mail orders, however. They have a wide variety of high quality loose teas. Sometimes loose tea is sold at coffee shops (but not that monopolistic chain by the name of Starbucks). On the issue of stones, at least half of what I have was found and the other half of what I have was baught at rock and mineral shows. They have many vendors come in and they KNOW what they're selling. Plus you can find a much greater variety of stuff than you ever can in a metaphysical shop. They might even have pendulums; I baught the pendulum I have at a rock and mineral show. Plus you can get things like huge balls of copper, sun-disc pyrite, fossils, jewlery... totally awesome stuff! Don't underestimate the value of scouring for your own stones either. I've managed to amass a decent collection of limestone fossils and also found a holey stone that way.

There's nothing really THAT great about it. The clothes are expensive and few (Or at least in the stores I've gone to) and my mom never lets my buy anything but sweat pants and even then she leaves murmuring how evil the store is. I've never heard of the store. We have a chinese-owned mystic shop. Its pretty nice. Another thing:
when you're at a gift shop or a theme park, look for those *Pick your own gem stones* Or w/e you get to fill a drawstring bag with that kinda stuff. Thats a good way to get nice pretty gem stones and ones that call to you. Also Michaels has decorative ones.

I've been thinking... Check Spencers they might have New Age things there.
Also they sell small crystal balls. The kind that can easily fit in your pocket.
