Hey what is everyone's opinion on evolution and how it relates to the Christian faith?

Its an interesting theory there is much to discuss on this subject, what did you want to talk about in particular?

Well what is the Church's standpoint on evolution? And what is your own opinion of evolution?
PostPosted: Mon Mar 05, 2007 9:22 am

I not exactly sure what the churches standpoint is, but I'm sure that they don't believe that our creation was not a random occurrence and that God planned it and created us somehow.

I personally believe that science is not entirely wrong, but certainly not 100% correct either. My view of science is this: Science is our explanation of God's miracles. With that in mind, I don't see why God couldn't form our world and everything in it similarly to how scientists say it was. In evolution I believe that God certainly allows the animals to change/evolve to their climates, seeing as climates change and sometimes its our fault. Just as we can adapt the environment to suit our needs, God slowly changes the existing animals to adapt to survive in the environment that changed. It is even said in the bible that God provides for the animals. As for our evolution, I'm against the idea that we evolved. There is not enough evidence for our evolution from primates, and we have not evolved dramatically since we recorded our history. This leads me to believe that the evolution theory is kind of off. This is what I've learned so far anyways.

Yeah I do agree that science is the explanation for God's miracles... However, I don't think we have enough evidence to totally prove or disprove evolution. So I technically have no stance on it

A theory is just that, a theory. Its not truth, until it is proven fact, and even that you can completely trust.

I think it's wrong, and I stand on the authority of the Scriptures and the explanation of Christian scientists that have come to the Dominican Republic to explain why it's not true. There's a book by Grady S. McMurtry called "Creation: Our Worldview," that deals with a lot of this supposed "impossibility" of science and religion being together, as well of it speaking against evolution AND in favor of creation. (Yes... it's possible to speak against something and not being in favor of an opposing idea).

It all depends on how far you go, I think. Science is not 100% right, a lot of it is theory, and a lot of it can not be completely proven. You can't say that all of science can support God, because some theories were made in attempts to make others lose faith in God. Like most things you have to discern what is right through the Holy Spirit and the bible. So, some scientific theories can go along with God's creation, you just have to be careful about which ones you believe.

I believe in evolution, but by God's Hand. I think that He led everything, over time, to be what it is today, because I know that God created the world, but then He led it to grow and change and because successful. I partially believe this because Darwin was a Christain, and Mendel, the discoveror(sp?) of hereditary was a monk. I don't think they wanted to disprove God at all. I think they probably wanted to prove what He has done to our world. Remember: God is behind everything, including science.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not being condescening, though that may be how I seem. Knowing the facts, there is no logical way to believe in both God and evolution.
Exodus 31:17
It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he abstained from work and rested.' "

God defines what day and night are in Genesis 1:5,8,13,19,23,31
Genesis 1:5
God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

So there. Evening+morning= 1 day

Furthermore, why would perfect all-powerful God Almighty have to use millions and millions of years to create creation?
God said "let there be" and there was.

What is time for an all-powerful being like God? Does that mean that when we die, the period of time that we are dead can be measured in physical days, hours, minutes, even seconds?
PostPosted: Tue Mar 27, 2007 12:03 am

Evolution and the Bible don't mix.

If evolution were to be true then that means that there was no reason for Christ. Christ died for our sins right? Yes. The next logical question would be to ask, where did our sin and sin nature come from? Threw adam and eve when they fell in the garden. If the Genesis story in the Bible is not literal then there was no deception and no fall of man and there would be no reason for Christ.

For some reason I remember Darwin creating the theory for the sole purpose of disproving Christianity.

As for the relationship of evolution and the bible, evolution was meant to disprove the bible, so of course they can both be true. Although, we don't know exactly how everything came to be in the bible. We could take what happened to be literal, but even the Jews say that if you did, you would miss out on the lesson. To get stuck on how things happened, when there is no way to find out 100% in the end is kinda silly to me. I entertain the idea that some of evolution principles are true, but I wouldn't put my faith in it.

God lives outside of time. This very fact is logical. He would have to be out of time, space, and matter in order to create them. When we die, every human that has ever lived will stand before almighty God on the day of judgement, all having arrived at the same moment. Then, we will pass into eternity. Either Heaven or Hell. It doesn't really make sense to me that there would be any measurement of time then.

Exactly. So when God created the world, how could it be mentioned in actual time when God lived outside of time?
